CELTIC are closing in on a £2.5million deal for Greek striker Georgios Giakoumakis.

Dutch second-tier club VVV-Venlo have agreed the fee for the 26-year-old hitman, as CQN reported during the week.

It is now down to Giakoumakis to seal the four-year contract which will see his club accept a £2.1million fee up front with a further £428,000 of performance-related add-ons, according to the Daily Record.

The Hoops are now working on arranging a medical for the prolific marksman who was the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season with 33 goals, despite the team struggling at the foot of the table.

Ange Postecoglou has already spoken to his fellow-countryman and mapped out what he is looking for if he arrives as part of his massive revamp that saw Shamrock Rovers’ centre-back Liam Scales become his seventh major signing after his £600,000 switch was rubber-stamped yesterday.

The Parkhead gaffer, currently preparing his players for the visit to Ibrox for tomorrow’s midday kick-off, is putting contingency plans in place if Odsonne Edouard leaves before Tuesday’s deadline with Bordeaux, Rubin Kazan and Everton all linked with the French ace, as CQN reported earlier today.

Werder Bremen, relegated from the Bundesliga last term, and clubs from Qatar were also interested in Giakoumakis, but it appears he has set his sights on joining the Postecoglou revolution in Glasgow.
