Green and the interests of Scottish football

789

I’ve read yesterday’s statement from prospective Rangers owner, Charles Green, a few times now, without really understanding what the point was.  When someone issues an unexpected statement the reason is usually obvious.  Not on this occasion.

Published on the official Rangers web site it once and for all confirmed that Duff and Phelps were acting with the approval of Green when they took the SFA to the Court of Session, thereby bringing the entire Scottish game into a potential disrepute situation with Fifa.

Mr Green will now be fully aware of the ramifications of Rangers court action.  They failed in their attempt to have the matter referred back for consideration to the Judicial Panel and, as Paul McConville pointed out yesterday, cannot be ejected from the Scottish Cup.  They are not currently participating in the Scottish Cup, and suspension from a future season’s Cup is not an available punishment.

His legal advice is now likely to conclude that his actions will soon lead to suspension from the Scottish FA.  There is, however, an interesting theme through Green’s short statement that might indicate why his statement was issued:

“I nor my investors wish to see an outcome that would be to the detriment of Scottish Football”.

“….suspension or termination of Rangers Football Club membership of the SFA. That in our view would be a disaster for Scottish football”.

“Expulsion from the Scottish Cup is itself a very serious punishment which would also have a severe impact on Scottish football”.

We are heartened to hear the interests of Scottish football are so core to Mr Green’s heart.  This being the case, he will possibly protect Scottish football by asking the SFA to impose the now-illegal player registration ban on Rangers and beg them not to refer the matter back to the Appellate Panel. The horse has bolted on this one but it’s possibly worth a punt.

  1. Could they be dead by the end of June? Going on hold and would like to take that lovely feeling with me.

Is green just begging the sfa to pull the trigger?

Fiona, got the joiner for extra day, that’s why I’m asking about Wednesday?

Must be more to it than that. Anyway, the Celtic ethos would be to offer help and support, not just to sack

  4. Is it possible Alan Thompson’s removal is the first step in the Celtic downsizing exercise for life after Rangers removal from the SPL? Actually perhaps not the first step if you consider O’Dea, Juarez and Murphy all exiting already. Considering the fact that we do not buy players for the sole purpose of seeking European progress but only for Domestic success then it looks like the playing staff will be substantially diminished and not a lot of financial outlay for the new seasons squad.I would recommend that nobody get too excited about outlaying more than 1.5-2M on a player. The previous speculation of a 3M player was for ST sales only.

not true!! help must be offered, however the employee has a duty to accept help

but this may not be relevant in this case, we do not know why Thommo was sacked, just speculation at this stage

I feel that Rangers’ actions now are totally reactive. They’re not in control of events. There is no Cunning Plan. The remaining participants are like looters who are scuttling through the carnage trying to grab what they can after a Blitzkrieg has devastated a town. Green saw a possible opportunity, chanced his arm, was rumbled and is now trying to scarper before he gets shot.

  16. Well I’ve finally succumbed. Despite the valiant struggle, the Jubilee has finally got to me, and so I find myself sitting in Sharkeys celebrating the 60th year of the “quadrangular shaped iced lolly”.

As I raise another glass to the memory of lemon and lime, irn bru, orange, cola and dandelion and burdock lip and tongue numbing sooky cardboard wrapped tribute to the iceberg that sank the titanic (Joe O’Rourke was closer to the mark than he knew), I thought I would drop by and give you the third part in the story of why I am eight and a half years old.

For those who haven’t got a clue what I am on about, which includes everyone I have ever met, the first two parts (of an interminable series of questionable mental outpourings) are here.

    Eight and a half – part 1

    Eight and a half – part 2

Part 3 shoots forward to June 2010, but never fear we will return to 1961 and CELTIC in the not too distant future or past depending on where in the space time continuum you find yourself.

    Eight and a half – part 3

So for the moment….I leave you with “a fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty “Hi Ho Silver away!” (soon he may well be the LONE Ranger)

BTW FOR KJAM, for a great account of Scotland’s contribution to the international Brigade…..Try “Homage to CALEDONIA” by Daniel Gray.

If Celtic have the success that Andy Murray has had in recent seasons then we’ll be playing in Champion’s league finals regularly or winning the Europa league for fun…… sounds good to me.

I hope we are and I hope for Andy’s own ambition that he wins a a grand slam….. Not to shut up critics but just cos from where I am, he deserves it..
