CELTIC are on the brink of a dramatic double swoop with Andre Engels and Auston Trusty heading for the champions.
The Hoops have reportedly had a club record £10.9million offer for Augsburg’s Belgian midfield ace Engels accepted by the Bundesliga side.
And the Parkhead hierarchy are pushing ahead with a deal that could hit the £6million mark for Sheffield United centre-back Trusty.
Engels, 20, has been a priority target for Brendan Rodgers since the news Matt O’Riley was heading for Brighton in a £26million-plus switch.
Paulo Bernardo has already been recruited at £3.5million from Benfica after last season’s impressive loan campaign, but the Hoops gaffer still sought reinforcements to take the load off Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate.
ON HIS WAY…Auston Trusty is a £6million target for Celtic.
Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson and the German club’s supremo Michael Stroll have finalised a £10.9million package that will seal the middle-of-the-park performer’s move to Scotland, according to a report in Sky Sports.
Augsburg will hold a 20 per cent sell-on in the contract.
Engels apparently expressed a desire to join Rodgers’ side and a medical will be set before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
Discussions were also ongoing with the Yorkshire club over a move for central defender Trusty after the Hoops’ original bid of £5million was rejected by the Championship outfit.
It has been stated that a few details need to be finalised before the deal is rubberstamped.
It will be a quick turnaround for the American stopper who only joined United last summer from Arsenal.
