GREEN LIGHT FOR ENGELS

ARNE ENGELS is fit and raring to go as he attempts to resume his love affair in Paradise.

Celtic’s £11million record recruit played for only 10 minutes in Belgium’s UEFA Nations League double-header where his country drew 2-2 with Italy in Rome on Thursday and lost 2-1 to France in Brussels last night.

Engels sat out the match in the Olimpico Stadium as Dominico Tedesco’s side fought back from two goals adrift to earn a point.

However, the elegant Hoops playmaker, who was bought from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg on deadline day, made a late substitute’s appearance in his country’s capital against the French.

The Belgians were already trailing 2-1 when Engels entered the action against 10-man opponents who had seen Aurelien Tchouameni red-carded in the 76th minute.

DESPERATE IN DINGWALL…Arne Engels is preparing for a fall as he fires in a pass during the tense encounter against Ross County.

The hosts could not take advantage of their player advantage on an evening Youri Tielemans blew the opportunity to score the encounter’s opening goal when he blasted a penalty-kick over the bar.

Engels came through his cameo role unscathed and is now on the brink of getting the nod by Brendan Rodgers to line up in the champions’ midfield in the top-of-the-table encounter against Aberdeen at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon.

The 21-year-old smooth operator racked up four consecutive victories in the east end of Glasgow following his big-money arrival. He made his debut as a second-half substitute in the 3-0 derby triumph on September 1 and followed that with successes against Hearts (2-0), Slovan Bratislava (5-1) and Falkirk (5-2).
He scored his first goals for the Hoops via the penalty spot against the Tynecastle men and the Slovaks.
Engels eased his way through the 6-0 romp against St Johnstone in Perth, but was fairly anonymous as he and his team-mates were dismantled 7-1 in Dortmund three days later.
Worryingly, the gifted performer toiled in Dingwall with the visitors struggling in an off-key display against Ross County in the last Premiership outing before the international break.
DISMAL IN DORTMUND…Arne Engels is left scratching his head as Borussia players celebrate one of their seven goals in the Champions League rout against Celtic.
In the 61st minute, with his team trailing 1-0, Rodgers withdrew Engels and Reo Hatate to introduce Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan and the new boys added pep, energy and invention to the midline as the visitors came back to win 2-1 and notch their seventh league win on the trot.
The Hoops sit at the Premiership pinnacle because of their superior goal difference over revitalised Dons who have also emerged victorious from their seven league games this term.
The scene is set for an intriguing confrontation – and it could be just the stage for Engels to pick up where he left off against Falkirk in the Premier Sports League Cup last month.
Rodgers wil almost certainly give the green light to the talented middle-of-the-park peformer on another huge occasion in Paradise.
