GUSTAF LAGERBIELKE’S loan move to Serie A outfit Lecce was blocked by Brendan Rodgers in January.
However, it looks as though the way is now clear for the Swedish international centre-back, who cost £3million from Elfsborg last summer, will get the green light in this transfer window.
Rodgers was forced to pull the plug on the temporary switch following injuries to Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Welsh which left him short in the middle of the Celtic rearguard.
Lagerbielke, who appeared as a substitute during the Hoops’ successful three-game US tour, has been linked with Italian pair Parma and Hellas Verona, as CQN reported earlier today.
GREEN FOR GO…Gustaf Lagerbielke is poised to leave Celtic while Maik Nawrocki is battling back from a hamstring injury.
The champions are reported to be pursuing Burnley’s £7million-rated Dara O’Shea while Rodgers seemed satisfied with the Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales double-act last term.
Maik Nawrocki, the club’s most expensive recruit a year ago at £4.3million from Legia Warsaw, missed the trip to America with a hamstring strain, but he will be available when the action gets underway with the Premiership kicking off with the visit of Kilmarnock to Parkhead on Sunday.
Appraising Lagerbielke’s situation, Rodgers, speaking to the Daily Record, admitted: “It just all depends. Gus has shown a terrific attitude. He didn’t get so much game time last season, but he’s got his head down.
“He had the chance to go on loan in January, but we needed to keep him due to the injuries we had in that position. But he’s worked very hard over pre-season and we’ll see what happens.
“You see the players are happy and working well, but all players want to play. If they can’t get the game time with us, they may look elsewhere.
“At the moment, he’s working very hard and when is asked, he comes in and does well.”

An early injury and a red card against Feyenoord in the 2-0 opening-day Champions League loss in September marred his early days at Parkhead.
The 24-year-old defender, under contract until June 2028, made 10 appearances and scored one goal – ironically the winner against the Dutch side as he took personal revenge for his dismissal in Rotterdam.
That could remain the highlight of Lagerbielke’s stay in the east end of Glasgow.
