GUSTAF LAGERBIEKLE’S £3million move to Celtic has been given the green light.

The Swedish international centre-back is expected to be a Hoops player at the start of next week after he undergoes the formality of a medical examination.

The deal has been thrashed out between the champions and Elfsborg for the 23-year-old defender and the switch will be sealed with Lagerbiekle agreeing a five-year contract, according to a report in The Scottish Sun.

Coincidentally, the highly-rated youngster who won his first full cap at the turn of the year in a 2-1 win over Iceland is arriving in Glasgow only days after his countryman Carl Starfelt exited for La Liga outfit Celta Vigo in a £5million move.

Lagerbielke has already admitted it would be a “dream” to join the treble winners – and now he is on the brink of his wish coming true.

He will become Brendan Rodgers’ second central defender purchase in three weeks after the £4.2million swoop for Polish colossus Maik Nawrocki from Legia Warsaw.

The 22-year-old towering German-born stopper made his debut in the 4-2 Premiership opening-day win over Ross County last week and is expected to be in place alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in tomorrow’s High Noon showdown.
