Green: Scottish football effectively is Rangers and Celtic

910

Charles Green told TalkSport, “Scottish football effectively is Rangers and Celtic. I mean, there are many other clubs but everyone has to acknowledge that that’s a fact.”

No, no, no, no.  No.  This is not a fact, it is not even a credible opinion.  Instead it is deeply insulting to dozens of teams who conduct their business properly year after year. I have to ask, does he want this project to fail? He is effectively saying – Vote for this plan, you are irrelevant, we are all that matters and this suits our purposes.

It was this erroneous attitude which led to predictions of Armageddon this season.  Instead, the long-suffering clubs who have paid their bills, while others put money which should have gone to the tax man towards buying fooballers, are enjoying a rebirth.

Green added, “Scottish football needs Rangers back at the top and Rangers being a vital part of European football. That’s where we’re trying to get them.”

This is a great season for the SPL.  Financially responsible Hibs, who lost the Scottish Cup final to irresponsible Hearts, are top.  Celtic, with their manageable, low, debt, have just beaten Barcelona in the Champions League.  Aberdeen have their best team in years.  Attendances are up for most clubs.

Before adding, “The Old Firm is the world’s biggest derby.  That’s what world football wants, what broadcasters and sponsors wants, to see those games again.  God willing we’ll see that in the years ahead.”

“The Old Firm” is not the world’s biggest derby, it’s not even Glasgow’s biggest derby.  It doesn’t exist anymore.  As for it being “what world football wants”!  Oh dear.  World football has better things to concern itself with, and don’t bring God into it!

The authenticity of the “Rangers Football Club plc” slideshow presentation which appeared last night is not confirmed, but I hope it’s genuine. It is, literally, fantastic. Notions contained therein that provide for “colts” teams and league reconstruction which “could see Rangers progress faster through the domestic league structures” bring it into perfect alignment with the Scottish Football League plans, which earlier this week Charles Green revealed would be presented today.

I also loved the first point on the summary page, “Profitable business model using prudent assumptions”, despite no mention of future costs, or revenues, in the presentation. Nice that they have confirmed revaluations of property assets at £79m, a fraction of the value the assets were disposed for in the summer.

This will not end well.

  1. “That’s a great idea. Paul could set up an app with a (small) fee which could go towards continued funding of all things CQN.

I for one would pay a few quid for it.”

    ————————————————–

Is there a prospectus available for this? Or somewhere to register interest or pledges??

  2. Dontbrattbakkinanger – The Christmas CQN will be fighting for shelf space with the special edition of the Guinness Book of World Records being brought out to list all the pan-galactic achievements of the ole Galacto-diddies and their unsavoury accretion of ole Zombo-billies.

I understand the pan-galactic gargle blaster used to be a favourite at the Burns Howff. (thumbsup)

  3. According to the presentation, “the rangers” are a franchise not a

football club. I think chuckie means to strip the assets and relocate

to North America and call themselves The New England Ranger Bears.

  4. Good article Paul, may i ask if Sevco have made provisions for future costs re:-

1.Potential penalties arising from The Nimmo Tribunal.

    (prize monies,future bans etc)

2.Potential BDO clawback on there current asset base.

    (Valuation/ownership of assets).

Philvis and DBBIA. You’re both talking the ususal single fish.

It’s a well established fact that a Pan Gal is THE most sophisticated cocktail in the known universe. The effect of drinking one has been likened to having your brains smashed out by a gold brick wrapped around a slice of lemon.

Plainly a refreshemnet of such delicacy would neither be available in a dive such as the Burns’ Howff nor of any utilitarian value in unblocking the lavatories therein.

You both must be having Father Jack moments.

I can read your frustration, I hear your anger, I can hear the sound of your head banging against a brick wall.

I appreciate and admire your excellent prose, but I think I may be listening to the sound of empty horses.

No one at Celtic has challenged the preposterous claims of Charles Green. If he doesn’t need the SPL, then let him be consigned to the lowest pit of Dantes’ Hell.

Speak up, Mr.Lawell, and Mr. Bankier, ” There is no Old Firm. We don’t need them”.

  22. Paul67

If it is true that you cannot fix a problem with the mindset that created it, it also true that the same mindset, if not corrected, will replicate the same problem at some future point.

This insane mindset thinks that what was Rangers was strong. If that is so why are they no more? Strong clubs do not die.

However and more important, how can we possibly fix the problems that bedevil Scottish football when the mindset that created them as personified in the likes of Campbell Ogilvie, Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster are still in a position to influence the future with the same kind of thinking that ruined the past?

These guys have their equivalents in the msm, Jim Traynor in particular being cheerleader but with a guid few fear filled followers.

At Rangers the arrival of Walter Smith only reinforces that the same mindset, the one that produced something that simply did not work, is back to have another go, unless Smith has confessed to his part in Ranger’s downfall and I missed it..

They are all driven by fear and must be removed one way or another and replaced by men of courage, integrity and vision, men who seem to be in short supply.

Lets hope there are such men out there with the courage to say “Enough”, with the courage to stand up to the crazed mindset and tell them those days have finally gone.

When the FTT final reveals its secrets I hope that such men will emerge and take Scottish football forward on an ethical and sporting basis.

There is an armageddon taking place you know, but its not on the football field or between angels and demons, its in the mind field where a battle between right thinking and wrong thinking is taking place.

We are in a time of correction, when reality asserts itself, the quicker we all march to the beat of its drum the better for all, including the wrongminded on the Soo side.

The oooooooooooooollllllllllle Burns Howff, ‘Glasgow’s legendary music venue’, was many things, but never a dive.

    Perhaps a simulation…

..and to wander into the Ladies Torlet and risk being accosted therein by ‘the Friends of Dick’ was for many a rite of passage into manhood on a par with the adolescent Masai killing a lion with his bare hands.
