Charles Green told TalkSport, “Scottish football effectively is Rangers and Celtic. I mean, there are many other clubs but everyone has to acknowledge that that’s a fact.”
No, no, no, no. No. This is not a fact, it is not even a credible opinion. Instead it is deeply insulting to dozens of teams who conduct their business properly year after year. I have to ask, does he want this project to fail? He is effectively saying – Vote for this plan, you are irrelevant, we are all that matters and this suits our purposes.
It was this erroneous attitude which led to predictions of Armageddon this season. Instead, the long-suffering clubs who have paid their bills, while others put money which should have gone to the tax man towards buying fooballers, are enjoying a rebirth.
Green added, “Scottish football needs Rangers back at the top and Rangers being a vital part of European football. That’s where we’re trying to get them.”
This is a great season for the SPL. Financially responsible Hibs, who lost the Scottish Cup final to irresponsible Hearts, are top. Celtic, with their manageable, low, debt, have just beaten Barcelona in the Champions League. Aberdeen have their best team in years. Attendances are up for most clubs.
Before adding, “The Old Firm is the world’s biggest derby. That’s what world football wants, what broadcasters and sponsors wants, to see those games again. God willing we’ll see that in the years ahead.”
“The Old Firm” is not the world’s biggest derby, it’s not even Glasgow’s biggest derby. It doesn’t exist anymore. As for it being “what world football wants”! Oh dear. World football has better things to concern itself with, and don’t bring God into it!
The authenticity of the “Rangers Football Club plc” slideshow presentation which appeared last night is not confirmed, but I hope it’s genuine. It is, literally, fantastic. Notions contained therein that provide for “colts” teams and league reconstruction which “could see Rangers progress faster through the domestic league structures” bring it into perfect alignment with the Scottish Football League plans, which earlier this week Charles Green revealed would be presented today.
I also loved the first point on the summary page, “Profitable business model using prudent assumptions”, despite no mention of future costs, or revenues, in the presentation. Nice that they have confirmed revaluations of property assets at £79m, a fraction of the value the assets were disposed for in the summer.
This will not end well.

From The Herald:
Agter the news story about the Hibs match announcer being sacked for playing Taxman by the Beatles, in mocking reference to rival Hearts’ woes, Keith White in Paisley recalls: “The referee and two linesmen at Paisley Pirates ice hockey match took to the ice accompanied by the tune Three Blind Mice.
That announcer was also reprimanded.
A wee bit of Armageddon info regarding Aberdeen football club.
Just bought 4 tickets for our game against them this weekend at Pittodrie. The sales office operator just informed me theyre expecting a 16-17000 attendance. Best since 2009.
Thanks for your reply, Jobo.
SPF
Last I read Hooper and Forrest doubtful for Benfica.
myboysnowatim – back in the early 80s the games at Pittodrie were the ones I looked forward to the most. They had a great team and a passionate support and looked like they would establish themselves permanently as a bigger team than Hibs, Hearts and Utd.
Would be great to see them as serious rivals again for a sustained period.
Gordon J
Last March as the FoD were in their financial death throes we were up at Pittodrie ( the 1:1game ) …
At halftime Aberdeen played Bob Marley Three Little Birds
“Don’t worry about a thing
‘Cause every little thing
gonna be all right”
I thought it was a nice subliminal dig at the plight of the FoD … for those who were perhaps not fully tuned into the DJ’s intent he removed all doubt by following up with
Taxman
The Aberdeen Fans then unfurled a professionally printed banner
(Centre Piece a Crown inside a heart )
” We Love HMRC”
Didn’t hear about any DJ’s getting sacked up there ,
Aberdeen fans always said that they hated the FoD more than we did .
The Onlooker
I was at the match when tiger Tim made his last announcement (PSG?) and it provoked a laugh and a cheer… I’m sure the Hibs fans had the same reaction to taxman… A bit of a laugh no harm done move on…

Deniabhoy,
Need to get back to work but its encouraging to see the current league situation is having a welcome, positive effect on attendances, which is flying in the face of the doomsday predictions.
I do not doubt we will prevail by seasons end but the close league situation and realistic fight for second spot has energised other SPL clubs and their respective support.
I live near Aberdeen and agree with what you say about their club.
DeniaBhoy
Aberdeen/Celtic games at Pittodrie in the early 80’s were always great matches
My first ever game up there was The Maestro’s league debut when he scored in a 3-1 win
Mind you, you had to have your wits about you before/after the games up there. Was a scary place at times

David Leggat has been fined £1000 ( the maximum allowable) and suspended from the union for writing threatening material about me.
On subject of DJ’s
I always remember a game 2005 against Livingston at Pleasantville -( Paul Lambert managing)
At every Livi corner the DJ played the trumpet of the 7th Cavalry coming to the rescue. Unfortunately the association with Little Big Horn was more appropriate.
.We were cruising 2:0 up at half time
Second half saw the home team re-enter the field of play to the theme tune from Star Wars. Fair enough.
However when the Hoops came on to the park the DJ played the theme tune from Laurel & Hardy .
If the team anything to keep them focused this would get them back in the mood to continue the rout.
Also Celtics substitute announcements were followed by the sound of Family Fortunes ‘Big X’ ( our survey says) and the ‘Whack Whack Ooops’ from Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart.
Why would you do this?,
Its like kicking a dog ‘up the jacksie’ whilst you have your hand in its mouth
It is the equivelant of booing one particular opposition player every time he touched the ball and then wondering why he always plays his best game against you.
We won 5:0
The Onlooker
I see the SNP now riding rough shod over Education in Scotland. Forcing the chairman of a College to resign and then blocking any inquiry into it.
Auld Salmondland going to be a hell of a place in a few years to come. Hopefully in a couple of years we will see a ‘Spring Uprising’ against the dictator…
Personally, I think Chuckles is wasted at Sevco.
Clearly with his talent for resurrecting financially bankrupt groups, he should be in Greece.

Did you see him on the news last night? He was at some game tech place, wearing a set of goggles with thick elastic holding them on, the make emblazoned on the strap was “Fat Shark”!! http://thejaggythistle.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/its-official-he-is-fat-shark.html
aSonofDan -string ’em up from the nearest wind turbine.

Personally .. I just think charles green is wasted .
Now we all kno’ what to get ALastair for his Christmas, a set of those fancy goggles so he’ll be able to see the back of the queue of Chuck’s investors.
Why would John Lewis reckon tax avoidance would drive companies out of business, why not just drive them out of being registered in Britian? If you can’t beat them join them, maybe if John L said they would now be registered in the BVI then the loophole would be shut!

Well alistair aint getting any new players this christmas
And the goggles wont help him see us either cos we disappeared over the horizon ages ago ;)
Jobo
That sounds about right although the SFA would require sight of AGM approved accounts during the licensing round that ends round about 31 May.
That suggests they need to bring forward their year end date to be eligible under your suggested timetable (wheeesht eh?)
On the possibility of them qualifying I will use a term I heard Darryl King use when talking about their ‘feat’ of winning the title in 2010. He said it was “astonishing”.
We all know how the astonishment came about – referee strikes etc and it would take a repeat of that kind of thing to put them into any position to qualify.
As I said earlier if Scottish Football believes it cannot survive without a Rangers in the top division playing in Europe then how do we ensure the playing field is a level one?
The longer the game thrives or at least finds its sustainable level with them in the doldrums the better.

Wouldn’t it be simpler, to avoid companies going through all that rigmarole of registering in tax havens, just to abolish corporation tax?
Obviously we’d have to increase income tax to make up the shortfall but I’m sure no one would object to that.
tigertim
No idea if true, but daft Leggo alluded to this in his crazy blog this morning.
tigertim
I was reading an article of his yesterday and noticed it was gone off his website this morning.
Maybe the injuction was just to force him to remove whatever was offending them.
tigertim
Legless (who Alex Thomson claims was fined a grand for writing threatening articles about him) is claiming on his site today that Sevco have taken out legal action against websites who might write negative things about The Rangers share issue.
For a change he could be correct.
It seems they don’t want the Internet Bampots scrutinizing their plans.
Why would they need to is all I can ask.
If this is true then you can bet your boots CQN will be served as well along with anyone deemed to be anti- Sevco.
