Green, Whyte, Sevco 5088 and the St Mirren link

1131

After 11 months of innuendo and unanswered questions the Sun today publish confirmation that Charles Green was a frontman for Craig Whyte.  The news will be a bombshell to many but few in the Celtic online community will be surprised.

The Sun today report that Craig Whyte and partner, Aiden Earley, are majority shareholders in Sevco 5088 Ltd, the company which bought Ibrox, Murray Park and other assets from Rangers’ administrators’ Duff and Phelps.

They also claim Charles Green subsequently transferred Sevco 5088’s assets into Sevco Scotland Ltd, which Whyte said was done without his permission.  Green was given considerable opportunity to respond to the claims but despite pages of comment does not deny the central claim that Whyte and Earley were majority shareholders in the company which purchased assets from Duff and Phelps.  The rest of the story amounts to little more than gratuitous detail.

Where does this leave things?

Whyte’s QC has started legal action, seeking control of Ibrox and other assets.

Duff and Phelps (presumably unknowingly) discretely sold Rangers assets to the man who appointed them and who is currently subject to an investigation into the collapse of the club.  Rangers’ liquidators, BDO, can cancel the sale of assets and claim them for creditors if they believe it was not conducted in an appropriate manner – and this is anything but appropriate.

When Sevco 5088 Ltd was negotiating with the SFA Green assured the SFA that Whyte was not part of his consortium.  This was a condition of the Newco being granted associate membership.  The SFA are now duty bound to investigate (although with president Campbell Ogilvie in place make no assumptions here).

What has any of this to do with St Mirren, you may ask?

St Mirren chairman, Stewart Gilmour, appears to have made a pact with Charles Green, who I hear has given Green his assurance that he will vote against league reconstruction plans, which the SPL are due to vote on 15 April.

Questions like who owns Ibrox, whether the Newco is a legitimate associate membership of the SFA, whether BDO will declare the sale to Sevco 5088 void, in the event this circus makes it to next season, whether anyone will buy tickets to the shambles, all remain unanswered….

…but Stewart Gilmour is making plans with Charles Green.  St Mirren fans should be outraged.  Mr Gilmour should be careful who he does deals with.[calameo code=0003901714557cf2d2048 lang=en page=134 hidelinks=1 width=100% height=500]

I’m sure today’s Evening Times is full of coverage on the latest hilarity at Sevco following their eight-page pull out official souvenir Third Division winners tribute edition at the start of the week.

There’s an old philosophy joke… a cow has four legs and a tail… if you call a tail a leg, and a leg a tail, how many legs does a cow have? Four … it doesn’t matter what you call it.

It may be different for me, living where I do, as I dont work with/live beside, etc., sevconians, so I can largely not have any dealings with them. I appreciate that many of you do not have that luxury/ have a different experience than I.

However, to answer your specific question, in my view, willful blindness is no defence; I know they aren’t the sharpest lot, but I do believe that most of them do know the problems with their (current and former) teams…. but choose simply to ignore it (as it would force them to take a good hard look at themselves). Its like parents of delinquent children… we always say, the parents are the last to know… but really? Is that true? I dont think so… they might be the last to acknowledge it, but, deep down, they know, but dont want to have to face it, or deal with the consequences. I think most sevconians are of that ilk.

In my mind. I now R***s were not always a club for bigots….but, I guess the question may be, is Sevco by now so fundamentally entwined with their bigotry that it is no longer possible to be a sevconian without drinking their poisoned Koolaid?

  12. Just to be clear,I do know what a `pendant` is but not in the context it was used by each of you.

  13. I would assume any Sevco movie would closely follow the plot of ‘Young Frankenstein’.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No, it’s pronounced “Fronkensteen.”

Igor: Do you also say “Froaderick”?

    Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No…”Frederick.”

Igor: Well, why isn’t it “Froaderick Fronkensteen”?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: It isn’t; it’s “Frederick Fronkensteen.”

    Igor: I see.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: You must be Igor.

    [He pronounces it ee-gor]

    Igor: No, it’s pronounced “eye-gor.”

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: But they told me it was “ee-gor.”

Igor: Well, they were wrong then, weren’t they?

On the day we discover that Craigy was actually pulling the strings all along (kudos to those who alluded to this being the case), there is one scene in film history that springs to mind. It is, of course, the encounter between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. Just at the moment the Huns have been pushed to the brink of destruction, Craigy, with an affected wheeziness says, “Huns, I am your majority shareholder.”

I’ve been married twice (so far says the current mrs Che) both families were rangers supporters, not once in a total of 28 years did I hear them make any remark that I would have construed as bigoted, my own family or at least some of them were less than understanding, and were quick with their jocular jibes, all in good fin tho.. did I challenge that at the time? No I didn’t and that’s a real regret, I work with, socialise with and am related to rangers supporters I would not accept their bigotry any more than I would accept it being aimed at them, certainly I’m older if not any wiser now, have times changed? Perhaps, have people’s attitudes changed? Perhaps but not enough in my opinion, its too simplistic to pigeon hole people or groups of people, its easy to create barriers in some cases they are needed, it ain’t so easy to break those barriers down.

Police have warned Celtic fans attending a rally against

Scotland’s football laws that any attempt at a march

would be illegal and see participants prosecuted.

Organisers are predicting several thousand will attend

Fans Against Criminalisation (FAC) protest in Glasgow’s

George Square at Saturday lunchtime, organised on the

back of the incident which saw Celtic’s self-styled ‘ultras’

the Green Brigade clash with police last month.

The group were accused by Strathclyde Police of

attempting to organise an unauthorised march against

the Offensive Behaviour at Football legislation when

disorder erupted on March 16, sparking 13 arrests and a

week of fall-out and criticism of police tactics.

Earlier this week, Glasgow City Council declined to grant

permission for FAC to parade through the city centre on

Saturday, as the organisers had not complied with the

required 28 days’ notice to hold a street procession.

However, permission for the group to hold a rally in

George Square from 12 noon until 1:30 pm was granted.

Although formal approval is not normally required for

static protests, the fact that George Square is officially

deemed a city park means permission has to be granted

    by the landowners, the council.

But while Police Scotland said it “understands and

supports the decision of the council” and is “working

with it and others involved in the rally to make sure the

day is a success”, it has warned against the potential for

an impromptu march to Celtic Park, where the club could

become SPL champions if they beat Hibs and Motherwell

lose at home to St Mirren.

Chief Superintendent Andy Bates, Divisional Commander,

Greater Glasgow Division, said: “Clearly, as permission

for a public procession has not been granted, those

attending the rally need to understand that any

procession along the road from George Square would be

illegal and anyone involved could find themselves

    subject to prosecution.

“The way to avoid this problem and reduce the impact on

the city centre and the local community is for people to

leave the square using the footpaths on the three

    identified routes.”

Mr Bates added he was “slightly concerned” about the

dispersal at the end of the rally, with large numbers of

fans wanting to leave the square at one time and making

    their way to Celtic Park.

He said: “It is important for their own safety and the

safety of other road users that they don’t block the roads

as they leave the square, and to reduce the risk of

congestion we have identified three separate routes to

the stadium leaving from George Street, Cochrane Street

and South Frederick Street on to Glassford Street. Using

these three routes will allow supporters to leave safely

and quickly, using the footpaths and not blocking the

    streets.”

Police Scotland has also put a traffic management plan

in place that will allow supporters using buses to be

dropped off in George Square before the rally. Buses will

then be able to park in George Street to take supporters

to Celtic Park once the rally is over.

Mr Bates also advised those attending “to wrap up warm

and come along and enjoy their day”, encouraging

anyone seeking advice “to speak to my officers in the

    square”.

A source at Glasgow City Council said: “The FAC group

submitted notification for a public procession, but not

within the statutory period. We declined, as there were no

exceptional circumstances re the choice of date. If you

remember, the argument re the Rangers one to Hampden

was that the club may no longer have existed in 28

    days.”

FAC said confirmed speakers at the rally are MSP

Michael McMahon and Glasgow University academic and

    Celtic Trust member Jeanette Findlay.

Mike in Toronto. No offence taken. In the case of this particular friend I have never heard him refer to ” papes” or make other disparaging anti catholic remarks, and to be fair to him, he like me is not interested in what religion a person is.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have referred to him as a hun, but there is no doubt that as a sevconian he appears to feel embattled, embittered and hard done by, but it is impossible to discuss these matters rationally since his and their starting point is irrational and to my mind somewhat akin to that of creationists in ignoring all of the evidence before their eyes.

My take on it is that among them now there is a kind of Orwellian doctrine that sevco good everyone else bad, and that if you disagree with them you must by definition be a “hater”. I have no doubt that much of this is due to corruption from exposure to internet sites where they have now assumed the mantle of victims in their own eyes.

As I said earlier, I will have no truck with such delusional irrational nonsense.

To me the idea that they are the same club and are victims in any way other than of their own greed and folly, makes about as much sense as saying that dinosaurs walked the earth six thousand years ago.
