Green/Whyte enablers, racism and Ibrox security

1089

Have you ever seen a ‘Rangers’ director pushed by a journalist on a question he dodged before yesterday?  It’s never happened.  STV’s Peter Smith did something no journalist in the history of Scottish football has done before, pressed a question when the man in charge at Ibrox dodged the initial inquiry.  Smith dismissed the deserved praise that came his way last night by suggesting it’s what a journalist does.  True, but refreshing nonetheless.

I was reminded last night that Green’s examination by the old media has come earlier in his journey to the bottom that Craig Whyte’s did last season.  Whyte was being backed by some, let’s call them enablers, right up until the week before Rangers went into administration.  Unfortunately for Green some in the media, and perhaps a few in the support, were embarrassed by their backing of Whyte last year and will not repeat the mistake.

Apart from the aforementioned Green, I have only ever known one person to use the word “darkie” (I missed 1970s ‘comedians’).  He was born in the first years of the 20th century, too young for the first war and too old to be conscripted for the second.  Well into his 90s, I heard him say “there are a lot of darkies on TV these days”.  He was reprimanded and immediately realised what he had done.  An apology and a period of over-compensation followed.

It falls to SFA president Campbell Ogilvie to ensure that such language has no place in Scottish football.  Disciplinary proceedings should be issued, unless, of course, the SFA view the matter in a different light.  Any future appearance of a Charles Green image on a banner or effigy at Celtic Park, or use of the words ‘Our New Hero’ to describe him, should not be regarded as an endorsement of his views, only his work in football.

Celtic minstrels will write songs about him, I have heard the words “man-love” being used this week.

Will Newco stay active long enough for Craig Whyte’s security over Ibrox, crystallised by yesterday’s ruling that he owes Ticketus circa £17m and therefore had a piece of the action at Rangers after all, to have an effect?  There are so many icebergs around Newco probably not.

It was interesting to hear Manchester United’s endorsement of Newco as a potential English Premier League club being debated on STV.  Now out of Europe, Manchester United were asked if they would play a fundraiser at Ibrox later this month.  I hope Green’s comments on the interview don’t spoil relations.

I was pleased to hear we were drawn at home for the next game but for pity’s sake, sending Motherwell to Tannadice the day before defeats the point. This is a complete failure.

Add this to the fact that Fraser Forster’s biggest fan is making his First Holy Communion when we are at home to St Johnstone on 11 May and you get a taste of the frustration in our house last night.

He realises the importance of his First Communion but thought we could cancel the party afterwards and have an alternative celebration at Celtic Park. We’ll distract him on the day…..

As many of you are already aware, the Celtic Trust have arranged a process whereby, if you live in Scotland, you can easily contact your MSP to back the FAC call for an inquiry into policing at the Gallowgate last month.  You can find the information and template here, go do it.

  1. surely its no coincidence that things seem to be turning on charlie, first craig the hero comes back, then the media start questioning and lo and behold the sfa are asking questions now, yes in my opinion the big move is about to commence, THE REAL RANGER’S MEN ARE COMING or is that the men are coming for the ranger’s

Chuckles is saying that the guys are not bailiffs outside Ibrox but three billionaire investors,

Chuck said, I have said many many times that these guys would turn up.

A lot of people appear to be suspicious on the media calling Charlatan to task and the timing of it.

While this is understandable, it is also the stark reality that Charlatan is the first person involved with any of the Ibrox based clubs to be given a difficult interview in almost 40 years.

I remember in the wake of the carnage the Huns left at Villa Park in 1976, one of their directors was asked about the sectarian signing policy in a TV documentary. So we’ve had to wait a wee while for another serious question to be asked on camera.

It is a form of progress given the environment we are talking about.

We have become so used to media compliance in all things relating to Ibrox, that when a journalist does his job properly we are seeking ulterior motives.

‘The court case to determine the future of Portsmouth has been adjourned for a second time today. Administrators of the League One side are trying to force the sale of the club’s Fratton Park stadium to the Pompey Supporters’ Trust so that they can complete their takeover.

The stadium is controlled by former owner Balram Chainrai, who believes he is owed around £12m by the club, and is refusing to release his ‘fixed charge’. The hearing at the High Court in London had been due to start at 1030 BST. It was then put back to midday to allow the judge more “reading time’. However, it has been further delayed now until 1400 BST, with no reason given.’

  6. Bear with me here…..

Rangers FC Group, formerly Wavetower, were assigned the charge over the assets of Rangers whilst they were being helmed by Our Hero. So that is the stadium and Murray Park.

Whyte then takes out multi million pound financing with “corporate and personal guarantees” with Ticketus to securitise future revenue. In the financial climate these guarantees would have to be significant to secure £27m worth of financing.

    Rangers go pop.

D&P state that they do not recognise the charge held by Whyte as being valid. This was never challenged or brought before court was it? In fact I do believe the charge is still sitting currently active and Whyte has resisted attempts to have Rangers FC Group struck off very recently.

What if this “corporate guarantee” is on a default, Ticketus assume the ownership of this still live, charge over the assets?

Why would Ticketus incur such a monumental legal cost (£750,000) unless they knew there was a pot of gold within reach.

The Rangers FC Group is the only thing Whyte has in this country and subsequently the only thing Ticketus could go after. His Castle in Grantown wouldn’t cover the legal fee’s incurred.

I can see padlocks in the future

  8. We forget that CG is the largest shareholder in The Rangers International Sevco 5088 Sevco Scotland PLC. However, if the fund managers and some of Joe Peepel smaller shareholders gang up on him, he’s in for a rough ride at the AGM. I suspect he’ll be binned then for a safer pair of hands. Probably promote Stockbridge, the CFO

  9. I don’t know whether this has been mentioned on the blog recently but didn’t STV enter into some kind of Internet partnership with the Horribles at the end of 2011? That makes it strange that they have now apparently turned against Chas Green. Can you shed any light on this, Paul?

Chromebook might not be for you. It uses Googles Chrome OS and while it can read and write Word (not sure about Powerpoint) it doesn’t actually use Office.

Having said that. I’ve seen ones cheap enough that you could buy them and install Windows separately and it would still work out cheaper than buying a Windows laptop of similar spec.

I’m surprised that Ticketus can claim that they didn’t know about Craig Whyte’s past.

Surely if you are considering lending someone £18M you can be expected to do a bit of due diligence on them first?

I wonder if ole Craigy Thompson was just evening things up after all, since thon cheatin’ Spanish ref played up to UEFA’s wanting Juventus to go through at our expense in the last round. Yes, you are right, but it was a lot later than 2011. I think STV are what is termed as Rangers “official Media Partner”. I’m not 100 % sure what that means though. Probably it means that STV have paid Rangers money to get told the lies before any other media outlet :-)
