Greg and Daizen taking time

196

Greg Taylor has earned the right to take time before deciding what is best for him and his young family.  At 27, his next contract will significantly determine his wealth and lifestyle after football.  A few years on a higher salary, paying lower taxes, could see him enjoy better things in the years ahead.  Working in the sun is not for us all, though.

Daizen Maeda is also entitled to take time to consider his future.  He has two years left on a Celtic contract and an offer before him which is significantly better than the one Greg has from Celtic.  The Japanese and Korean contingent at Celtic has been getting smaller in recent times, Daizen’s ties here are sparce.  All we can offer is hard cash (before 48% tax – it’s always an issue for footballers) and the prospect of Champions League glory nights.

It would be an enormous boost if he signed a new deal, and for some of us, a surprise.

    :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  2. if celtic plc had any ambition to atttract the best players they would find a tax efficient method of employing them, maybe by setting up the player as freelance in a different tax durastiction, maybe registered in las vegas or monaco or delaware, or dubai,

and find a way not to pay tax on profitable revenues.

    what could possibly go wrong.

  3. Nobody on here is advocating tax evasion or avoidance.

But Celtic employees pay a greater taxatuon percentage than Manchester City employees.

As for the Isle of Man comment. Many companies register there. Again that is factual.

  4. so are you wanting celtic plc to operate in a different tax regime to enjoy a tax avoidance by being registered in Scotland ?

our employees just need to have an alternative address. in that jurastiction.

  5. Loopholes you say.

Our glorious former leader and architect of the higher taxation in Scotland has set up her own limited company to pay business rather than income tax rates on her book deal.

Not so dramatically different from an EBT.

  6. You brought up the subject of loopholes, I was merely providing an example for you.

  7. No Paul 67 brought it up on his article.

Did you not read the article ?

    Paul 67,

I am glad you have highlighted the 48% Scottish tax rate.

Given that the English top tax rate is 45% just makes player attraction and retension harder for Celtic.

It is not a level playing field and another obsticle we have to overcome.

  9. How about putting this guy on the stage with a vote so high that it can’t be rigged?

Mr Galloway isn’t allowed into TV Studios in case they go on fire when he starts chucking his truth bombs at the bent journalist, or back doored opposition MP’s.

Prediction – When Mr Galloway finally hangs up his Sinatra hat, Tims will be rounded up under the new Starmer/Snp/Greens Round up all anti-semites who wave Palestine flags – ACT!

If you don’t believe me, and I know that you don’t/can’t then go and check out LOWKEY, but you can’t as he’s just been banned, and see what he’s got to say about Mr Galloway.

    * I once saw a car over here with personalised plates “23 10 71”, he also had a hun pennant hanging from his rearview mirror.

*when my mother’s older sister, who worked in insurance for many years, passed away they found she had money invested in the IoM.

  14. Tontine Tim on 6th June 2025 3:25 pm

Insurance in the IOM is big business.

Of course many other companies also register there, including the company that the huns won a cup named after it.

  15. is KT the only celtic player born in the isle of man ?

lets have a team of uk and ireland 11, born in exotic places ?

    sean maloney singapore.

  16. For clarity the Scottish Income Tax rates are as follows: 0% on income up to £12,570, 19% on £12,571 to £15,397, 20% on £15,398 to £27,491, 21% on £27,492 to £43,662, 42% on £43,663 to £75,000, 45% on £75,001 to £125,140, and 48% on income over £125,140.

So it’s not 48% on everything- I won’t be crying over footballers having to pay tax

  17. SS

It’s Shaun Maloney and he was born in Malaysia- apart from that you were spot on 🤣

    ………………And Raphael Scheidt …….

  20. Gene: “and 48% on income over £125,140. So it’s not 48% on everything…”

For a top professional footballer, even at poverty stricken Celtic (relative to English teams), it’s thus 48% on most of their salaries.

  22. the underwhelming narrative on the Martin appointment is creating a sense of complacency amongst Celtic fans. Russel Martin is taking a team who are perhaps 3-4 good signings from being a good side. They outplayed us most of last season and could have threatened the title……on top of a respectable euro run. They also have a few young players who will improve with that experience.

Celtic also need 3-4 quality signings. A center back who can add areal threat , a midfielder, winger and center forward. Pace and power and guile to break us free from this tippy tippy style that’s exaggerated at times.

I remember Celtic winning titles against Rangers when they were clear favorites and we had new manager – they got complacent – I hope we don’t !

  23. One other important consideration this year re CL qualification is that as a country we are very close to losing our NON Champions CL opportunity. It is not just Celtic which needs to do well but all our clubs re this.

The league carries huge importance next season. If rangers win it they would qualify automatically for the CL for season after next with no play off due to their Coeff. That is assuming the CL winner has already qualified domestically. Eg PSG from French league etc. Celtic winning our league would only mean we start at 2nd qual from season after next. Massive incentive for rangers and a huge justification for us seeking to gather even more Coeff points.

    Spot on

    We lose Maeda Kuhn Taylor

We really need our recruitment guy Tisdale to be getting his ducks in a row.

We have Jota out AND have lost Kyogo.

Idah not the finished article and Engels still a project.

KT back doesn’t really balance it for me.

We also have a critical qualifier in mid August.

2 seasons ago they imploded from a strong positon v a far better Celtic team than we have now. Last year they were a total basket case but we still managed to lose more to them than we beat them.

We sold ORiley Iwata Kyogo and now potentially Taylor and Maeda. We are not stronger. 4 or so good recruits and they will be stronger and with a bounce.

  25. the 2nd rangers did not outplay our celtic for most of last season.

utter bullocks. they skelped us once .

we got suckered at celtic park.

they equalised in a lcf because we did a lot wrong .

3 or 4 players from being a good team ? seriously try 6 or 7. before anyone even leaves.

the pessimist outlook of calemeros does my head in.

ffs if you cant enjoy us give up on it and go do something less stressful instead.
