GRIFF EURO SETBACK

LEIGH GRIFFITHS is likely to miss Celtic’s second Champions League qualifying campaign after Brendan Rodgers revealed the striker could face THREE weeks out.

The Hoops are 3-0 ahead in their tie against Alashkert following the first leg in Armenia on Tuesday and are coasting towards the next stage where they will play Valur or Rosenborg with the Icelanders 1-0 up after the opening tie.

Griffiths, who is struggling with a thigh injury, didn’t travel for the Euro opener and is now expected to miss the next round.

The Scotland international hitman is still only three goals away from his magical ton for the Hoops and is desperate to get back to peak fitness for the crucial opening period of the season.

Rodgers said: “Marvin Compper is back in training with the squad, but Leigh, along with Jonny Hayes, is probably two or three weeks away. We’ll know more in a few weeks’ time.

“It’s unfortunate for him, but that’s how football works. For any player when you miss a period of pre-season it’s always difficult, especially if you’ve worked hard.

“You want to be at a good level and get as much of your fitness in during this period, so it’s unfortunate for any player that’s out.”
