Griffiths deliveries, Shved raw materials, Cluj

242

Still a long way to go, but there’s a sharpness about Celtic that is very reassuring.  Nomme Kalju were unable to make anything of their Champions League qualification tie with Celtic in front of their own fans last night, while Neil Lennon must have been delighted at what he saw throughout the team.

Marian Shved’s added time goal gave us an insight into why Celtic signed the player, who turned 22 this month.  He has pace to burn and an end product.  There is a lot more to the modern game, and it will take a while before we see him fully integrate into the team, but the raw materials are clear to see.

One notable aspect of this tie was the quality of dead-balls from Leigh Griffiths.  Last week’s free kick aside, his corners arrive in the box at pace and a height that created opportunities.  Chris Jullien should have made more of one in particular, but he can be very satisfied with his competitive Celtic debut.

My feeling is that Cluj caught Maccabi Tel-Aviv unprepared.  The Israelis have played half as much football as the Romanians this season. Having knocked out two higher seeds, Cluj will face Celtic next Wednesday with nothing to fear.  We should progress, but this tie will be a necessary step-up in pace ahead of the play-off round, which starts in three weeks.

The relaxed days of summer are over.  Between now and 1 September we play four league games, four European qualifiers and a League Cup tie.  If you check the calendar, cup finals happen in March and May, but the real ones take place in the coming weeks.  Be ready, Celtic.

how long til it takes one of the brain surgeons on ZOmbieZombie to come up with the brilliant idea of asking Ashley for a loan so they can repay SDI?😆

As I posted previously, zombie shareholder loans/ conversions to equity will not continue to happen indefinitely. With little european income, and (I think) 7% of revenue from player sales last season, that model is simply not sustainable (again!). I think the zombies are staring at another administration soon (not necessarily this season) unless they can (i) sell Morelos and Tavernier, and / or have a good run in Europe, and then repeat the process again next season. (not Morelos again … although if any club would try to sell the same player twice, it is the zombies ..).

As you say, they aren’t going to make appreciably more from merchandise in the foreseeable future, as Ashley will squeeze them; as you suggest, I think that, rather than demand all his money as it is due, he will likely renengotiate a better deal at a higher percentage going forward….which will cripple them for the foreseeable future. Deja vu… as this is how the whole dispute with Ashley started in the first place…

I thought they would get a 3 or so million for Tavernier and 6-8 for Morelos, but that seems less and less likely. Unless they can increase revenue from player sales, then the only way they stay solvent is by increasing European revenue significantly.

I have previously predicted that, in true WWE fashion, we would win the league this season, and the zombies would win one cup…. in order for the league to set up a perfect storm for next season … us going for 10, while the zombies have to stop the unthinkable…

but, increasingly, I think the zombies may need to win the league this year, in order to have a chance at the CL revenue for next season .. which I think is their plan for avoiding administration, particularly if they dont make a few big sales …so, expect the cheating this season to be on a scale never seen before to ensure the zombies win the league this season; If he stays, Tavernier will get 20 goals this season – 18 of which will be penalties.

    But, here’s the kicker…

I will point out that, by simply doing their jobs and seeking to enforce the rules of law, Mike Ashley’s lawyers have done more to protect the integrity of Scottish football than I have seen the present Celtic Board do.

When Lawyers in general, and Mike Ashley’s lawyers in particular, are more law abiding, transparent and seemingly ethical (they at least make an effort to enforce the Rules), than our Board …. something is very wrong with our club😆

No sure whos writing their press releases!

    Bury FC Media

    Statement From The Chairman

The Chairman has issued the following statement:

We, as a Club are saddened by recent events from a body who should have the best interest of Clubs as it’s primary objective, clearly this is not the case.

We, as a Club had come through such adversity left from the previous owner and had started to make headway, the majority of rot had been cut out and the atmosphere at our Training Ground was fantastic, where a positive air had started to replace the despondency of the legacy. New players were arriving with an open mind and looking forward to the new season as were our fantastic new staff.

We thought we were finalizing with the EFL on any outstanding matters that needed addressing, they were fully aware that SAG were happy with our progress and upon the lighting replacement being completed ALL matters were concluded and the certificates would be issued the next day. The Council also confirmed this to the EFL so no worries fulfilling fixtures.

Our CVA had been put forward and we had proven to the courts our ability to fund it and it was passed after 5 months of hard work, this closed off the past where creditors would be dealt with by the administrator, or so we thought.

We submitted all that we were asked to by the EFL in the week prior to their “statement” not as they stated, “not submitted.” So as far as we were concerned we were up to date and requested they lift the embargo so we could sign our players as we were running the risk of losing them.

We then received an email explaining they felt it prudent to amend our cash flow/business plan to show a £1.5m loss and they required additional funding, as this was not factual we challenged their assertion as it was based we were advised on “sensitised feel” not facts, we forwarded the facts to qualify our plan and dismiss their “sensitised feel.”

So at this point, we felt all had been covered and we could continue with the upward trajectory we were on, get our players signed and all was good, Bury was on its way.

    THEN THE INFAMOUS EFL STATEMENTS

I was advised by the EFL chair that board pressure had been put on her to send out a statement, however, she had the decency to advise me by phone prior, which was and has always been appreciated.

I explained all the matters were covered, we had spoken and agreed in principle the player debt with the PFA and within the CVA, the CVA administrator sent a letter to the EFL confirming all was as it should be and he was happy creditors would be met within it. They had our business plan and to save the matter protracting we sent proof of funds to cover the fictional £1.5m loss, furthermore, they had been contacted by the Council informing them the SAG licences had been cleared.

They still, however, felt it prudent to ignore the facts and send out the incendiary statement for no gain to anybody other than to discredit Bury FC and it’s Board.

The effect of that to our Club has been unrest in players thinking there would be no Club, loss of players, sponsors pulling out and 5 months of hard work being destroyed by them, then you have the subsequent media garbage inciting unrest and the trolls rearing their sorry heads again, all based on ill truths or at best negative spin, for what?

They then contacted Jill Neville late at night to say a further statement was being put out, our Staff and the Club Lawyer tried to contact them to no avail to ask what was their next statement based on as they had everything, it turned out the game would not go ahead?

They contacted us giving us more time, we asked what further could be given, our cash flow was solid, the mythical £1.5m requirement was covered should it ever be needed by an offer letter and they themselves advised “The EFL is aware the £1.5m may not be required it’s a worst-case scenario forecast. It may never need to be drawn down on.” And again they were advised the PFA were working with us on a settlement however this was covered by the CVA, so you would assume once again all good.

Then the EFL meeting last night and subsequent statement, where they decided the POF letter of £1.5m was not sufficient they wanted money in the bank to cover the requirement they themselves say is not needed, and let’s not forget, in addition to our positive cash flow, the EFL have withheld payments to the Club of £569,493 including August payment, not the actions of a body there to help, but certainly if released would cover possible eventualities they deem prevalent. They also disputed our agreement with the PFA even though our Lawyer and prominent third parties were privy to this. Still, they postpone the match and again for what gain?

I am unsure at this juncture where Bury go when the body that should be there to help us works against us, however, I felt it important to set the record straight and hope the EFL try to be reasonable.

We, as a Club, promise you that we will challenge this injustice in whatever forum necessary.

    Yours sincerely,

    Steven D Dale

  14. 3 reasons the Morelos story is pish:

Firstly, Chinese clubs must pay a 100 per cent tax on foreign imports – so a £15m bid would effectively be £30m for Hebei China Fortune.

In addition, the Super League side already have four foreign players in their squad – namely Brazilians Marcao and Fernando Henrique, plus Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Mascherano.

Under Chinese FA rules each team can only have four foreign players in their squad, and only three can play in a league match.

“Rangers have been banned from wearing Hummel-branded kit from next season and ordered to pay Sports Direct nearly half a million pounds in legal fees.

The long-running court battle between Mike Ashley’s sportswear firm and the Ibrox club resulted in a High Court injunction being imposed on the Light Blues, preventing the club from wearing or selling kit strips made by the Danish company from the 2020/21 season.

The Gers have been told to pay legal fees to Sports Direct, with an interim payment of £444,846.60 due by 4pm on August 16, according to reports.

That amount could rise dramatically, with both parties expected to return to court at a later date in order to reach an agreement over damages”
