Griffiths deliveries, Shved raw materials, Cluj

242

Still a long way to go, but there’s a sharpness about Celtic that is very reassuring.  Nomme Kalju were unable to make anything of their Champions League qualification tie with Celtic in front of their own fans last night, while Neil Lennon must have been delighted at what he saw throughout the team.

Marian Shved’s added time goal gave us an insight into why Celtic signed the player, who turned 22 this month.  He has pace to burn and an end product.  There is a lot more to the modern game, and it will take a while before we see him fully integrate into the team, but the raw materials are clear to see.

One notable aspect of this tie was the quality of dead-balls from Leigh Griffiths.  Last week’s free kick aside, his corners arrive in the box at pace and a height that created opportunities.  Chris Jullien should have made more of one in particular, but he can be very satisfied with his competitive Celtic debut.

My feeling is that Cluj caught Maccabi Tel-Aviv unprepared.  The Israelis have played half as much football as the Romanians this season. Having knocked out two higher seeds, Cluj will face Celtic next Wednesday with nothing to fear.  We should progress, but this tie will be a necessary step-up in pace ahead of the play-off round, which starts in three weeks.

The relaxed days of summer are over.  Between now and 1 September we play four league games, four European qualifiers and a League Cup tie.  If you check the calendar, cup finals happen in March and May, but the real ones take place in the coming weeks.  Be ready, Celtic.

Is it not the case that clubs MUST make a limited number of tickets available for public sale?

As far as I know, ST`s are not for the total capacity so it is possible to have a ST waiting list and have unsold seats in the Pay on the Day area.

Celtic will have a section for away supporters and depending on their uptake will leave a number of spare to be sold.

    No mystery for me

  5. As a point of interest, is there anyone presently on the blog on the waiting list, or know of anyone else that’s on it?

I can’t think of any other rational explanation, and in fairness, It’s probably right from a financial perspective.

But football should be about more than that.

My brother in law was on the list for 2 years and got a ticket this season if that helps

    Good Evening fholks

As some of you may be aware, CQNer thebhoyfromoz’s middle son passed away at the weekend, whilst holidaying in Amsterdam with friends. Wee Charlie was 20, and was an active member of the Thursday CQN 5s footie squad, as was his Dad ( a founder member) and two brothers. At times we had 4 from the thebhoyfromozs’ family playing and the running joke was that we would just need Mrsthebhoyfromoz to join us to make the complete set.

Charlie, looked about 14 with his youthful and boyish good looks, and was a dribbling wizard at times on the field. It was clear that he took these talents and looks from his mother’s side. What was obvious about Charlie and indeed his brothers, was the manner in which they conducted themselves, interacting with others around them, stating their opinion without being offensive, with a sprinkling of good humour at times, and always with good grace (Well nearly always. They are boys), whether on the 5s pitch or on our annual 5s night out. This is indeed a tribute to the parents and indeed the boys themselves.

As you can imagine, the family are completely devastated with the loss of Charlie. I cannot even remotely comprehend or try to understand how they are feeling or coping at the moment, but from speaking with the thebhoyfromoz what is somehow helping to keep them going is the love, kindness and support that has been shown to them by others outside the immediate family.

At the moment the family are trying to make arrangements to bring Charlie home, so he can be laid to rest. I will update you on further details as I know more.

Good Bless you Charlie, I hope you had a fun 20 years. Keep making your family proud and say a big hail hail to all our dearly departed friends and family. My thoughts and love also go out to thebhoyfromoz and his family at this very difficult and sad time.

As someone who spent years studying Derrida, in which the notion of a radical alterity is central, I would probably (I wont say certainly, as that would be 100%) disagree*… but that is probably a discussion to be had over a beer some time. Next time I am back in Scotland, or you are in TO.

  10. Rangers knowingly, deliberately and systematically broke the rules on player registration.

They cheated the UK taxpayer out of around £100m.

They have yet to be punished. The titles have yet to be stripped.

    This is scandalous,.

The scandal isn’t that rangers have cheated. They have always cheated.

The scandal isn’t that the SFA have let rangers cheat. They have always let rangers cheat.

The scandal is that celtic have done nothing.

We can’t compete with Bournemouth, which tells you all you need to know about the bloated EPL

  12. Any transfer news?

We may have started the season well and we may be gifted a significant points head start when Sevco call in the administrators to try and clear the decks, but we still need freshening up another right back and quite possibly a left back if KT is indeed leaving

I’d be using some of the money from KT to make Cal Mac a wealthier man than he already is and keeping French eddy for as long as we possibly can. We’ve cash to spend on new quality players. It needs to happen.

Full on laughing at the desperate attempts to raise cash from the sale of mad Alfie by the way.

Thing to remember as well is that the old deal for the new huns was all on Chuckles- but the new deal they are all so pissed of about was done under Dodgy Dave’s watch.

A certain percentage of seats are reserved for away fans. Not sure of the exact number, but it would also depend on the opposition take up of said tickets.

I said similar to sooth some in my area who were growing nervous after twenty minutes or so without us scoring ( even though we werealready 3-1 up from the First leg !!) !
