Griffiths value outweighs the baggage

229

While there was plenty to cheer on Sunday, the sight of Leigh Griffiths, stripped and sitting in the stand was among the most encouraging.  Leigh’s contribution to winning the league last season, when his return to action after the winter break coincided with Celtic’s return to form, should not be overstated.

When all seemed lost for him on the news that he was not in good enough condition to travel with the squad to France in July, we discussed how it was foolish to write him off.  Leigh is one of the most natural goal scorers we have seen at Celtic this century.  He has natural pace, confidence and an attitude that will not easily be subverted.

At 30 and with a payload of baggage, it is unlikely he will illicit an attractive move, either for him or for the club, so I suspect (hope) he will be around to play his part this season.  That could start as early as Thursday, if we need a goal late in the game.

    Delaney’s .

I think I first met you on a supporters bus that went to Rotterdam for the Feyenoord tournament .

That would have been a few short weeks before the Amsterdam fixture.

    Is my memory correct? TT

The pre-season Feyenoord Tournament was a great trip!! Loved every minute of them por cierto.

RPMCelticFan – good call on LG’s stats.

Overall at Celtic he is averaging just a fraction under a goal every two games (115 in 231).

    That is exceptional.

Obviously the biggest issue (as called out by other posters) is his availability.

    231 games in 6½+ years isn’t great.

Calum McGregor has played more than double the number of games in the last two years alone.

There will always be this frustrating “if only” undercurrent with Leigh.

This just needs to be managed.

SNP have absolutely nothing to do with this and to try and bring them into the cold blooded assassination of 13 innocent unarmed civilian people shows a total disrespect for those that perished, by a murder from imperialist forces. Shame on you Ernie, shame on you!, por cierto.

I’ve just read stuff about Trump’s debt and his loss making businesses. Reminds me of a certain Knight of the realm here and how he is a nasty bit of business too. Thankfully Murray never got involved, openly, in politics.

    Bullshit.

You’re the one trying to game what happened to the advantage of the SNP and their fellow travellers.

The SNP’s only pronouncements during the Troubles were in support of Scottish soldiers accused of breaking the law.

    Don’t ever forget that.

I had a Premier Sports subscription just to watch Celtic, so disappointed it’s not being shown by them as advertised (subscription now cancelled).

For the the life of me I don’t understand why Celtic can’t make the game available on a PPV basis to those without a VST. Ditto for all the home games.

The PPV option can easily be removed when some form of normality returns and fans are allowed back in to the stadium.

Can’t help but think Celtic are leaving much needed revenue on the table.

“I want to place on record our strongest admiration for the way in which our security forces have responded over the years to terrorism in Northern Ireland. They set an example to the world of restraint combined with effectiveness given the dangerous circumstances in which they are called on to operate. Young men and women daily risk their lives protecting the lives of others and upholding the rule of law, carrying out a task which we have laid upon them. Lessons have of course been learned over many years – in some cases painful lessons. But the support of the Government and this House for our Armed Forces has been and remains unshakeable.” Tony Blair to the HOC 1998 por cierto.

I assume that was tongue in cheek Back to Basics? I know that Callum has played a lot of games since he was about 10 years old, but you don’t think he has played more than 460 games in the last two years?! That’s more than 4 games a week, every week for two years, not even Callum McGregor could do that, could he?

  11. Celtic fans have been charged more than any other Scottish fan to watch our team fact.

    A shocking fact.

    D :)

  12. VST for home games – cash

Sky sports for away games – cash

Premier sports for Eurooa – cash

    Ross County away – cash

    St Midden away – cash

No other club’s fans will pay more into Scottish football than Celtic fans.

All in my opinion which we can measure by how many other clubs fans have to pay away teams to watch games.

  18. RPM Celtic Fan………….I’m another one like yourself and Blogger. Have Premier just to watch Celtic games. I’m not very tech savvy having heard a lot of horror stories about watching games on Laptop not being very reliable.

Huge disappointment , wonder what is going on with this crowd. LOI club Dundalk’s play-off game is being televised which rubishes Premier story about ditching Celtic’s play-off game.

  19. So people on half wages due to Covid and have already subscribed to Premier Sport are being asked to pay twice if they wish to see match – which has already been advertised by Premier as being on their platform – that shower must think we are fn mugs.

16 year old me, and 15 year old exslaemuir bhoy listened to the end of the match in the company of the local huns who had it on the radio, sitting on the little railings on slaemuir avenue outside the same tenement where all of us up the hill had caught the bus for our first day at school 10 years earlier.

the score was 1-1, the clock ticking down, their taunts were littered with fenian b this and fenian b that.

When George scored we were jumping up and doon the street in our doc martins, so that is why they had the springy soles. a most wonderful night at that time.

Charlie Nic was indeed our darlin at that point in time illistated by the quality of that goal, a thing of beauty.

  21. Willie Miller [who is normally a decent pundit]

Pondering in the Aberdeen local press if the dons can ‘split celtic and rangers’ this season?.

    https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/sport/football/aberdeen-fc/willie-miller-aberdeen-are-on-for-a-great-premiership-start-but-can-they-split-celtic-and-rangers/

I mean seriously ?..he is entitled to debate wether they are strong enough to challenge for second place ahead of rangers.

They have recent history in doing this but I seriously doubt they are strong enough these days.

But throwing Celtic or the ‘old firm’ tag in the mix is cookoo land.

Aberdeen have not finished above celtic in the league for 26 years.!

Why the ‘split the old firm’ soundbites Willie?

Might as well pose the question if Aberdeen can reach a european final this season because you only have to go back another 10 years or so from the last time you finished above Celtic in 1994.

But we already got the answer to that fairytale last thursday night.

My advice to Willie and Aberdeen …concentrate on achievable goals like finishing above sevco rangers [a team who have never won a trophy in their history .
