Griffiths with a point to prove

267

I know Leigh Griffiths has more experience behind him that road ahead.  He may prove to be a challenge for Ange Postecoglou to manage (although I would not assume so) and I would hope he is not first choice striker for Celtic ever again.  However, if we need a goal in the qualifiers, at McDiarmid, or in a Hampden cup final, and things just don’t seem to be happening, you know Leigh can change games and seasons.

His story is fundamental to our second nine-in-a-row, the last season in particular.  His commercial value is significantly less than it was when his last contract was agreed; Celtic’s option to extend for one-year would have flattered him.  The one-year deal announced today is almost certainly at a lower rate, but right for Leigh and for Celtic.

If athletes perform best with something to fight against, Leigh will have the words of Neil Lennon injecting his veins with adrenaline.  He has a point to prove, watch him do it.

  1. True story, on route to Celtic Park today, just at Dalmarnoch there is a big long old wall, i take it it used to surround an Industrial site, but it has a set of wooden gates with a gap.

I am stopped at the traffic lights, when a fella walking back, older guy, sops, goes back and looks through the crack in the gates.

It is how i imagined the old Enigmatic used to discover much of his pictures, maybe it was he.

or maybe another guy such as.

    Sadly missed.

  4. Not being able to reconcile that ‘Celtic’ sign players scouted by scouts, coaches et all, is the single biggest gripe of the internet Celtic board basher.

There are no major football clubs that operate any differently, ask St Brendan, who is on record as stating

it was precisely he, that had the final say on all signings, most of them pre identified.

No different to Liverpool were his words, should you daub Ange’s first signing as somebody else’s you should be following a smaller cloth cap club to actually support.

  5. The manager should identify what position they want to fill and what type of player. The scouting team should identify possible candidates which the manager should look at.

A dof would be involved throughout if in post.

Then the CEO ignores all that and does their own thing 🤭

  7. ADI_DASSLER @ 7:52 PM,

Yes, Ange has a huge job and little time to do it in.

From what I hear his teams play attractive attacking football, if he manages to instil that from day one he may have some extra time.

But you pin point his second major hurdle – this Rangers side are tough and efficient, if he goes to Ibrox and gets a hammering then the up hill battle becomes a mountain to climb.

    Hail Hail

  9. Chairbhoy why do you think the sevco game is being played earlier than in recent years.

  10. TONTINE TIM @ 8:16 PM,

Exactly, they did the same thing last season after the split.

As it happened we didn’t get a new manager bedded in last season but they weren’t taking any risks.

    Hail Hail

  12. Tav pen is attracting interest from Man u and arsenal.

Apparently he comes with a guarantee of 15 penalties being awarded per season

  13. We really need a wee bit of urgency here.

    We need some realism.

As I posted earlier, the current squad is weaker than that which finished 25 points off the lead last season.

I’ve read on here today that Ange may bring in his own team eventually. When?

I’ve also read that the extensions for Griffiths and for Ralston are not the signings which will define this season.

    I disagree.

They are precisely the signings which will define this season.

We were negligent last season. Some CQN posters were dismissive of any unrest in the ranks.

Surely, we’re not about to repeat the same mistakes.

  14. If anyone has any first-hand evidence, or, even second-hand evidence that Peter Lawwell ever instigated the scouting, evaluation & purchase of a player, contrary to serving manager’s wishes, then for God’s sake reveal it. PUOSU!

It will of course never happen, because ‘IT’ never happened. Those with the same ‘axe to grind’ just keep parotting it. Not one manager has said it during their time in situ, or, indeed when they had left.

It is all ‘rolling gossip’ that picks up the usual type of fellow-travellers along the way.

Finally, over 50k season cards already sold shows how insignificant the small percentage of ‘angry birds’ on social media are….and how unrepresentative the boycotters and the ‘we know better’ factions in the GB & CT really are.

  15. GENE @ 8:23 PM,

Yes, young Osaze’s obvious enthusiasm for the physicality of the game may have to be tempered on the Green fields of Scotland where it’s all about interpretation.

The Euros using Fifa refs and slick use of VAR could point away forward for match officiating although I’m not daft enough to think the SFA would be so far-sighted. Nice to imagine it could happen one day…

    Hail Hail

  16. so we signed a striker on a 1 year deal , hope he has a better attitude and fitness levels, oh wait its that striker who didn’t give a monkeys ,should have been hunted.

“They are precisely the signings which will define this season.”

    ——————————–

At the moment, your projection has as much validity as mine.

However, get back to me when we have made some more significant signings and we’ll know how imortant these 2 one year extensions are.

  20. Just channel hopping and came across “Forces TV”

It seems to specialise in ‘70s comedies.

Just watched a bit of Citizen Smith
