GRIFF’S MOMENT OF TRUTH

1

NEIL LENNON has ruled out suggestions Leigh Griffiths may be heading out on loan.

The Celtic boss axed the Scotland international striker from the champions’ tour of France that was completed last night with a 4-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital.

The Hoops had drawn 1-1 with Nice last week and lost 2-1 to Lyon at the weekend while Griffiths was left at home to train on his own at Lennoxtown after the Irishman insisted the 29-year-old frontman had returned “overweight” after four months of lockdown.

But Lennon is in no rush to let the play move on a temporary switch although the hitman is facing the moment of truth in the near future.

The Parkhead gaffer, speaking to the Scottish Sun, said: “I’m not even considering that at the minute. He’s been coming on, but we’ll assess him when we get back.”

Griffiths completed the previous season on a high with a splendid hat-trick in the 5-0 Premiership victory over St Mirren in Glasgow on March 7 – just a few days before the coronavirus pandemic forced football into cold storage.

He teamed up with Odsonne Edouard after the turn of the year and netted eight goals in 2020 after only collecting three strikes before the break.

Now Griffiths will have to impress his boss all over again, especially with a bulked-up Patryk Klimala ready to stake his claim after his £3.5million arrival in January.
