GRIFF’S POISED FOR RETURN

LOCKED-OUT Leigh Griffiths is poised to make his first appearance for Celtic this afternoon as the champions prepare for a monumental season.

The 29-year-old Scotland international striker was banished from Neil Lennon’s squad for the three-game trip to France where they played Nice (1-1), Lyon (1-2) and Paris Saint-Germain (0-4).

He was ordered to train on his own at Lennoxtown after the gaffer was left fuming at his overweight condition following his return from four months of lockdown.

However, he could be given the nod to face Ross County in a friendly at Parkhead as the Hoops prepare for the Premiership kick-off against Hamilton Accies on Flag Day a week today in the east end of Glasgow.

Griffiths trained with his team-mates on Thursday and Friday as he attempted to get rid of the excess baggage, according to the Sunday Mail.

Lennon is now believed to be about to give the frontman the opportunity to shape up against the Highlanders to demonstrate he still has a future at Scotland’s title kings.

Griffiths ended last season on a high when he lashed in a hat-trick in the 5-0 win over St Mirren on March 7, just a few days before football went into cold storage due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He will be hoping he can pick up where he left off four months ago against the Dingwall outfit.
