Benjamin Nygren will be delighted at his contribution to Sweden’s 5-1 win over Tunisia in World Cup Group F overnight. The Swedes finished bottom of their qualification group, behind Switzerland, Kosovo and Slovenia. However, unlikely wins over Ukraine and Poland in the Nations League sent them through to the top international tournament. That +4 goal difference almost certainly gives them enough to qualify for the first knockout round.
Sebastian Tounekti made a 72nd minute substitute appearance for Tunisa, seven minutes after Nygren was subbed off, with the score at 4-1. With Netherlands and Japan to come, it looks unlikely Sebastian’s stay in North America will last too much longer.
In Group F’s other game, Daizen Maeda played 66 minutes as Japan drew 2-2 with Netherlands, which sets Samurai Blue up nicely to make the next stage.

Celtic winger Sebastian Tounekti’s World Cup campaign has already taken a major twist after Tunisia sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi following their heavy opening defeat to Sweden.
The Celtic star came off the bench in Tunisia’s 5-1 loss in Group F, but by the time he entered the pitch, the game had already moved away from his side.
Sweden were 3-1 up when Tounekti was introduced, with Celtic teammate Benjamin Nygren having already played his part before being withdrawn in the second half.
It was a tough opening night for Tunisia and an even more difficult one for Tounekti, who was thrown into a match where his team were chasing a route back into the contest against a Sweden side full of confidence.
The fallout has now been immediate.
Lamouchi has lost his job just one game into Tunisia’s World Cup campaign, leaving the squad facing a rapid reset before their second group-stage fixture.
For Tounekti, that adds another layer of uncertainty.
The 23-year-old will now have to adjust quickly to a new voice in the dugout, with Tunisia already under pressure to respond when they face Japan on Sunday.
That match will have extra Celtic interest.
Daizen Maeda is part of the Japan squad, meaning two current Celtic players could be on opposite sides in a crucial Group F clash.
Japan opened their tournament with a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands, while Sweden’s 5-1 win over Tunisia has left Tounekti’s side bottom of the section with no points and a goal difference of minus four.
Group F now makes difficult reading for Tunisia.
Sweden lead the way on three points, Japan and the Netherlands both sit on one, and Tunisia are already playing catch-up ahead of their final two games.
Their next match against Japan could now become decisive.
A second defeat would leave Tunisia on the brink of elimination before their final group game against the Netherlands on 26 June.
From a Celtic perspective, the situation is worth watching closely.
Tounekti will be desperate to make an impact after a difficult opening result, but the managerial change means Tunisia’s team selection and approach could shift quickly.
That could either help him or make his route into the starting XI more uncertain.
For Maeda, Sunday’s game presents a chance to strengthen Japan’s position in the group after their draw with the Netherlands. For Tounekti, it is already close to must-not-lose territory.
It has made Group F one of the more interesting areas for Celtic supporters to follow.
Nygren has already started his campaign with a convincing Sweden win, Maeda helped Japan take a point from their opener, and Tounekti now finds himself at the centre of a Tunisia reset after just one game.
The winger will hope the change in manager can spark a reaction.
But after a 5-1 defeat, a sacking, and Japan waiting next, Tounekti’s World Cup has already become far more complicated than he would have hoped.
