Grown-up footballers, Mourinho accused of cheating, Linfield lucre

371

When did footballers get all grown-up? Jonny Hayes offer to pay for new Aberdeen strips which had his name emblazoned on them, before his transfer to Celtic, is just such a thoroughly decent thing to do. He added a condition that the strips he bought back were donated to a worthy cause.

Small gestures go a long way in the game. I suspect this guy will surprise a few on the upside.

Linfield want to face Celtic at an early kick-off on 11 July for financial reasons, instead of taking the second leg to Belfast a week later, when, you have to assume, they expect the competitive element to have gone from the tie. 11 July is no less combustible in Belfast than the 12th (it is technically more combustible).

Kick-off at 9am, let the football fans watch their team in without the distraction of Belfast’s nocturnal July activates, or switch the first leg to Glasgow. And then hold the second leg at 9am in Belfast.

Jose Mourinho was thing morning accused of being a cheat! The Spanish tax authorities are 14 years and one month behind Celtic fans. Pay your tax or Karma will get you every time.

  1. bmcuw bobby if your about you mentioned birdlip yesterday what a view on a nice day but that road years ago was a bottleneck drop off at the honda factory then on to marlborough.

Not been too bad in my experience. Virtually all dual carriageway. The Marlborough road is always a bummer, mind.

Marlborough High Street is the widest in the country, apparently. Double-deckers can easily do a u-turn in it)

What I really disliked about Birdlip was when you joined the M5 North from there. A 360 anti-clockwise slip road with a 20 mph limit on it to prevent you tipping over. Bloody dangerous trying to get onto a motorway at that speed

Linfield want to have their cake and eat it. If they can’t host a game on either of the dates they are scheduled for(11th or 12th July) because they cannot guarantee safety of the visitors or the police won’t agree then they lose the right to host the tie and it should be moved to a neutral venue.

Celtic just need to play hardball and not give in to any request from Linfield to play on the 13th. Their motives are financial but if they can’t host the game on the 11th or 12th it should be taken out their hands and passed back to UEFA.

And giving up home advantage in the second leg would be ridiculous, its an advantage we’ve earned and we can’t take any chances in these ties.

Rangers were due to play an Irish club-Coleraine?-about 20 years ago,and put their foot down about safety. The venue was changed to Tranmere’s ground.

TBH,I don’t really fancy playing in Liverpool then either.

Shelbourne I think it was – there are going to be issues with this tie wherever its played but taking it away from the place there is a bigotfest ongoing can only help matters.

Celtic don’t even need to engage with them too much. Can’t host the tie on either of the allocated dates? Up to Uefa to move it.

I suggested last when the draw was made that it should be moved to a neutral venue; nothing I have seen suggested thus far dissuades me from that view.

Linfield have significant concerns about player and fan safety (should they get through to the second round); PSNI hold similar views. It’s quite simple; the tie should be moved to a neutral venue.

Is it not a requirement in UEFA competitions that the away team has to be in the country at least 24hours prior to K.O.?

If so,Uefa should insist on the time and date for logistcal reasons for Celtic.

I watched the draw live and I don’t think we earned the right to have the second leg at home. It was just chance that decided which team played at home first.

A caveat to the above is that UEFA do their best to make the relevantly simple process of randomly drawing balls out of a “hat” as complicated and confusing as possible, and they are really good at it. So the use of the word “think” in my initial sentence is not redundant. ;-)

  11. In all honesty, its unfair to ask ANY team to play in Belfast on any of those dates. The potential of violence makes it an unsafe venue for visiting fans of any nation. UEFA must realise this if they dont they’re bloody idiots (am I allowed to say that these hyper sensitive days).

You might be right. Still, even if it was by pure chance we’re at home in the second leg, its still our prerogative to give up that advantage or not which we’ve earned by virtue of the draw! If both teams dont agree to switch(and why would we!) then UEFA have a decision to make about moving the first leg to a different venue.

If you are thinking of coming over, you’ll be fine. Just wear your ‘Better Together’ T shirt and the Linfield mob and Peelers won’t be able to do anything for laughing:))

    Anyway,

Big problem this for a Plc so dependant on the cowardly bigot buck domestically.

If we can turn down tickets for Belfast would that keep the Linfield/Sevco mob out of Celtic Park? A potentially huge policing bill on a free night for SB Holders (normally).

What will the UEFA crowd in the stand make of the putrid occasion? What if it goes really pear shaped?

UEFA have a long record of not allowing politics to interfere with football. This is just another example of that.

Of course,it’s difficult to see what’s going on in the world when your head is buried in the sand. And even though it’s their backside wiggling in the air,the chances are it’s ours that’s gonna get kicked.

No wonder the SFA aren’t concerned about UEFA finding them unfit for purpose. They’re only playing Follow My Leader

Regardless of when the Windsor Park leg is played, Celtic fans are expected to be housed in the 6500-capacity North Stand.

It has two tiers and at this stage Linfield are looking at handing over 4000 tickets and using one tier for their own fans.

Another issue over a July 11 fixture is that many of the flights and sailings have already been booked up by bands coming from Scotland for the July 12 parades and people returning home for the bank holiday.

A Northern Ireland crowd safety expert has also warned that July 11 would be the “worst possible day” to host the Hoops.

Plavsic and Duverne have been linked with us for a while now, stories re-surfacing this week.

In the case of Plavsic it looks like our new Head of Recruitment wants to have a look for himself before recommending whether or not BR should take the plunge. At the reported £1.5m he seems worth a gamble, and with him playing in the U21 Euros will be match fit and ready to go straight into qualifiers.

When investigating an unexpected and unfortunate event, such as the sudden death of a healthy high-profile lawyer investigating a case in a way far removed from his usual MO and, indeed, home territory, the usual start and end point for that investigation is rarely if ever bad luck and coincidence.

IIRC,no formal post-mortem was held either-perhaps others can confirm or correct that. Either way,a sad loss for his family and friends. Perhaps some day they may discover the truth. Maybe they simply prefer to believe he died peacefully in his sleep.

We swept the boards last season , but resting on your laurels is one big mistake , we have positions that can be improved upon , and I think we may find the going tougher this coming season .

I dont doubt it. I said yesterday if the game goes ahead we should give our allocation to Irish based fans. One reason being the opportunity to see the Hoops locally rather than the trek to Scotland or further.

Also especially as local fans would know the lie of the land and the safest ways to and from the ground, where to drink where not to drink.

No my point this morning was Fans from anywhere else in Europe will be at risk on the given dates proposed.
