Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

  1. Nothing yet about the Sunderland thing

Wouldn’t like to pse VVD this window, pleased with the two strikers and shipping out some dross.

If only some EPL muppets had came in with £7m for superstar Stokes…..

  2. I love CQN on nights like this, no indy debate no in fighting. Awesome, Hope it lasts.

    Off to bed.

  3. Arguably these two signings could have kept us in the cl but sometimes other clubs don’t want to move players on until others are in.

Celtic are in a group of clubs that are usually unable to get the ball rolling.

Yes played his usual steady game. They did thro it abt a bit tho. Were sick as a parrot when Regan scored a great winner in the last minute

Whilst I agree with you on timing Ns left back you don’t crack every nut in the first transfer round.

Sorting up front out with quality strikers was a priority. We tried to get the guy from Nancy to be the creative force but I’m pleased the defensive unit looks intact.

    Over to you Ronny.

I’m hoping that line up from ICT and Dundee are distant memories soon.

6 hours ago we were assured that there was no chance of Celtic signing anyone and now we have two signings.

I never rejoice at transfer window dealings because these players have done nothing for us yet. They were signed by 2/3 of the team that sanctioned the signings of the deadwood we are now getting rid of.

These players arrive with a clean slate and no pre-judgements but I fail to see how anyone can be too excited about guys who have yet to achieve with Celtic. It’s just new bling, that’s all.

    Until they start to play.

Thanks pal. I utilised my 55 min wait well. I asked myself, what would A professional footballer do in this situation?

    So I Went to KFC!

Seemed like the least bad option!

I still think we should have got Johnny Russell. A lot easier for Kevjungle to spell.

Sorry KevJ but you do give it out.

Just having a wee look at our squad for Europe.

Seems simple enough to sort that out. Pukki and Balde out for Giudeti and Scepovic.

I thought, at the start of the season, that we might need more Scottish domiciled players, but we actually have a good number of them in the squad from our own academy.

I wonder, though, who dropped out for Mubarak. Any ideas?

  11. All in all the day finished a helluva lot better than it started.

VVD in mid sulk gets a call up to the national team. I am sure he will be the first into training tomorrow with a bowl of humble pie.

We got the striker we obviously wanted – so he had a wobble moment and fancied the warmth of Spain and glamour of the La Liga ahead of the dross of the SPL for a wee moment – surely we can forgive him for that..

We got another striker in – Guidetti, very much needed.

If we managed to get £400k for Pukki plus giving them an option to buy – great deal.

Also heard all of Balde’s wages will be covered within his loan deal – great deal.

A left back, keeper (high risk strategy on Gordons fitness) and central midfield enforcer away from coming up trumps.

  14. Cant quite believe it yet… 2 strikers.

But im delighted to say….Well done Peter

Guidetti…..could be a diamond with a bit of polishing.

    Pukki and Balde gone.

    No negatives tonight.

  15. Scepovic tipped last year!

Scouted by friends in Spain – flagged up by me and monitored by TET.

Had JP listened we could have got him for 1m Euros before buying Pukki.

Welcome Stefan – don’t let me down. :-)

  18. Would our club have acted in such a panic to bring in these players if we hadnt been putting so much heat on them to do so?? …..I mean wev been desperately lacking for months now.last minute attempt to appease fans, as they know marketing for europa league would have been impossible if we didnt bring any a single addition.

    this is the problem.

    big wavy:

Strikers were the absolute priority. Agree completely.

At least one of them (Giudeti) is very good indeed. The other has a good scoring record.

Someone on the site said last night that you don’t really need to know much about a striker except his scoring ratio. I don’t agree 100%, but I didn’t have to watch Pukki to know we weren’t going to get goals from him … you only had to look at his record, and just in Germany but before that.

These two score goals. That’s a fact. So yes, we’ve done well in that regard.

  20. the glorious balance sheet on

Not quite ready to do cartwheels.

The strikers should have arrived 2 months ago.

If we think this summer window has been hard going, just wait for summer 2015. Guidetti will be a free agent able to sign for whoever he wants. If he bangs in the goals this year as we hope he will have more lucrative offers to consider.

It is unclear as to whether Mubarak, Tonev, Berget will be here next year, Denayer will not, and van Dijk most likely will not be here either.

Brown and Kayal will be out of contract. That’s eight players whose long term future beyond the end of this season remains unclear.

On top of that we really should have brought in cover at left back for Izzy. He is struggling for form and fitness but gets no respite – he is now off to Honduras to play 3 games in 7 days, the last of which finishes at 5am our time next Thursday morning. How can he then go on a long haul flight and be expected to play well against Aberdeen 2 days later? Decent cover would mean we could rest him after these international treks especially important when Salzburg lie in wait straight after Aberdeen.

Good news that Commons contract is to be renewed and hopefully Scepovic gives us goals and a presence up front.

In my view though the real story of this transfer window is that we are likely to be as much of a team in transition next season as we are this season. I fully expect van Dijk to go early in summer 2015, most if not all of the loan signings to depart, and new signings to only arrive once again after the CL horse has bolted.

  21. the long wait is over on

P67 is unlikely to stick his neck out if unsure but Guidetti still doesn’t seem official as yet.
