Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

Delighted we’ve brought in two new forward thinking players and if you’d asked me at the start of the day would that satisfy me I’d have bitten the hand off you!

However, if you’d asked me at the start of the transfer window if I’d be happy with leaving things to the last minute I’d have said no.

I’m still confused why, if we’ve been interested in Guidetti for 2/3 years, we left it until the last minutes before signing him tonight.

  7. Terrific job tonight by Celtic. We also have some time to “bed in” the new guys. I think Izzy and Efe need a rest…..so this break will do them good.

As for young Callum….it is common for young players to be very hot, then really cool for a while. Big Jock was the master at bringing in young players then taking them out of the team. Did it with King Kenny and Danny McGrain….they turned out to be pretty decent players.

I also though that young O’Connell looked very good on Sunday.

  9. Ok the way I see it we have options to suit RDs preferred formation of 4-3-3

Lone strikers – Scepovic, Guidetti, Griffiths

Wide players – McGregor, Forrest, Wakaso, Tonev

Holding midfield player – Biton, Mulgrew

Box to box midfield players – McGregor, Brown, Henderson, Kayal, Johansen, Wakaso(?)

Defence pretty much as it was though thought O’Connell had a good pre season and game on sunday, so should be pressuring for game time.

4-4-2 diamond which is what we should have played in the last month, with really only the front 3 changing positions has

    Second Striker: Commons, Stokes.

Number 10 in the hole: McGregor, Wakaso(?) Tonev(?)

    Feeling a bit more optimistic

Fingers crossed, buddy. The momentum seems to be all on the Yes side. I’m expecting some real MI5 type skullduggery in the final phase though. Any dirt on any Yes politician will be flung now…and if they can’t find any they’ll make it up.

  17. Well in the scheme of things aside from a LB we got what we thought we needed in the windae…

A lot of loans so not permanent but players for positions right enough.

Quality summary. Balde wage news a bonus.

Euro league exposure will energise VVD. Eithe rmake him relasie he can achieve ambitions here or make sure he’s worth absolut etop dollar if the sulk continues and we have to punt him in January.

Speaking of which – a midfield creative and a left-sided defender in January and the revamp will start looking like it means business.

My only worry is the man picking the team; is he up to it? Not so far.

Lucky to have such managerial & executive superstars in our camp.

Non-performers plus one of our three top players out.

Fast, strong, big players in. Two other top players (Kris and Virgil still around).

Now the manager can focus on getting our fat boys fit. Then watch them go.

    OR ALTERNATELY

Why did we wait til now? What was wrong with July?

Scepovic didn’t even want to come. Don’t like him.

Guidetti was a flop at Stoke

Loan signings? What does that say about our ambition?

What about the £56m in the bank (actually heard that on the train after Maribor)

    Gordon’s got a bad knee.
