Guidetti awaits Fifa, Scepovic held nerve

1862

Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA.  The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.

Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension.  The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.

Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao.  The same may or may not be available to the SFA.

There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.

If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic.  Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……

One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen.  He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.

We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

  1. Just a wee afterthought, if Scotland says YES, how hard is it going to be for us to sign players from other countries… just thinking out loud.

  2. Irish Troops currently serving in the UN and currently based in the Golan Heights have clashed with Syrian rebels in the last week. Could that be construed as political involvment ? If so, are we to be fined for waving Irish Tricolours in UEFA competitions ? The whole thing is laughable.

  3. So I say it again … if you want to make a personal point, you and anyone else who has a mind to, can get hold of me in private and we can take it from there.

Hopefully that assists FIFA in doing the right thing

If you and others likewise are not happy with UEFAs stance on any particular flag stand up for your principals and boycott any UEFA match that Celtic may compete in

I am led to believe that on any particular evening that stadiums hosting Champions League and Europa league matches they become the property of UEFA who hire them from competing clubs

What UEFA wants UEFA gets it’s a tough old world

People cannot be selective in which rules they decide to abide by

Could we not just say it was the Kenyan flag upside down, withouth the shield and in no way similar to that of the Palastianian flag.

Whats the Legia Chairmens view on it? Im not judging till ive heard his view.

So did he not want to sign for Getafe Paul?

I thought Celtic had criticised the player for his initial u turn. Is that wrong?

You are asking to keep the flag flying are you not?

I think the club can clarify the reasons and so will St Johnstone but as we found out with Legia Warsaw UEFA make their own rules.

I want the club to flourish. If the flag is banned by UEFA it is banned end of story. Whether that is right politically is of no consequence to Celtic FC. They will ask fans to stop displaying them at UEFA competition matches. If you think that is wrong and in fairness I don;t think that is right myself then that is the law of the competition. If the fans or the club continue to fly the Palastine flag then we will be fined and fined again.

I don’t see any good in encouraging people to fly the flag of Palastine at Celtic games if it harms the club. I read in your comments that you now think the Union Flag should be banned as well. Celtic FC flew one over the main stand for years. Not checked if it is still there these days but it was always the scabbiest flag on display. I believe there is/was a rule that every sporting ground in Britain has to display the Union flag.

You need to allow people to debate your points. Me and you discussing it privately does nothing to expand on what you have written. The blog and your article would be pointless if nobody spoke about it or debated it with you.

To your credit your articles generate debate. You appear to take it as some sort of criticism or threat. It is not a criticism. It is mearly a question. A lot of people pump a lot of their money in the club and whatever the fine may be this time and/or next time is X amount of season ticket holders money. The people who pay their way into the game and the people who pump money into the club have far more to lose than you and me to an extent because I am not a regular attander these days. If the majority do not want to see fines then the flags must stop being displayed at European games. This is about the club.

Ridiculous as the UEFA rules are we are in their competition and when you are part of that competition you either abide by those rules or get punished.

I trust Celtic and St Johnstone will ask for clarification and then release a statement. If Celtic ask the fans to not display the flags in UEFA hosted matches then that has to be adhered to. If people feel strongly about waving Palastine flags then a campaign via UEFA is the way to go.

My opinion on your article is open and honest and open to criticism. I am quite happy to be proved wrong or agree to disagree. I put the comments out there and am happy to be proven wrong.

If you agree to disagree so be it. Personally I would not ask people to do something unless I was there to do it myself.

  17. TimJim, If a rule is wrong, I for one will not obey it, I will challenge it. My Country’s flag was banned in part of my Country for years. Did I obey the Ulster mob’s rules, did I heck. Over 50 years ago as a 16 yr old kid, I hitch-hiked from Cork to Belfast bringing an Irish Tri-Colour with me and displayed it in the centre of Belfast. Got arrested but was left go after a few hours and held on to the flag. I’m 66 now and I feel exactly the same, If something is wrong and unjust, I will stand up against it.

With regards to flags, no Palestinean teams compete within Uefa competitions.

So unless a club fields a Palestinian player the. there’s no other reason than political to fly the flag. Simples!

    So,your point is?

  24. Ernie Lynch

Sorry I thought it was simple enough.

Is it A Once In A Lifetime Opportunity?

The reason I ask is that people are suggesting the nats are telling lies when they say it’s A Once In A Lifetime Opportunity because they think it will help them win.

    ——————————————————————————–

Really? I thought by now we would be beyond the use of the term “nats” in a debate, and that we would be more focussed on the debate and the outcome.

It is not just “nats” using this term. If you watched the news last night you would have seen good old Alistair Darling use much the same term to instill fear, i.e. that it is irreversible, is forever, etc. It is apparently a once in a lifetime opportunity to save the union.

All politicians are at it Ernie, not just “nats” whatever that term means in this context given that there are pro-independence representatives across the political sector, including ex senior Labour politicians from Glasgow City Council.

Personally I would expect in that it is probably more of a once in a generation thing, given politics and the slow processes involved, in the event of a no vote. It also depends on the honesty of the no campaign in bringing in significantly increased powers. If that does not happen, if we are unfortunate enough to end up with a no vote, I think pressure for change will develop quickly.

I respect your right to take the position of being against independence Ernie, and will accept the outcome whichever way it goes, but would ask that you refrain from using disparaging terms such as nats. It really does not reflect well on you or the debate to be selective in this way.

I think that Henke made more than 42 senior league appearances in the six years prior to him joining Celtic. Guidettis form at Feynoord 2011 to 2012 looks impressive on paper but it seems that Feynoord weren’t impressed and he was loaned out two years later to stoke. What puzzles me is what he did in the intervening period between Feynoord and Stoke, allied that to the fact that he hasn’t featured at international level since 2012 either sets alarm bells ringing

Btw read up on his proposed moved to twente and it may give you an indication what happened last night

When did your line change from ‘once in a generation” to “once in a lifetime”?

I asked this last night but you must have missed it.”

    ###

It’s not my line. It’s the nats line. They changed it. It used to be once in a generation (which most people would say is reasonable enough, about 25 years). But their line is now once in a lifetime, presumably because they think that plays to their advantage.

They’re lying of course, but a lot of people don’t realise they’re lying.

And if they’re lying about that, what else are they lying about?

  27. So,

    SFA granted the extension

    then

the anti-celtic higher echelons of SFA got wind of that and now they need ‘guidance’ in order to renage on the extension

    sums it up

  28. James Forrest is praying for The Unconquerable Oscar Knox

Doesn’t explain anything. I was trying to understand the mindset around this.

Fair play I will be on holiday next week so won;t be there myself but your articles provoke debate. I thought that was the point.

I gave up taking flags to the fitba in my teens. Anyone wants to take any flag is fine by me. Never got upset over a flag of any kind.

Each to their own. I will be interested to read the ban, reaction and CFC, SJFC statements.

Just to clarify I think the rule is wrong but realistically the club need European revenue and will adhere to the rule of UEFA. Whether that is right or wrong is another debate.
