Guidetti awaits Fifa, Scepovic held nerve

1862

Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA.  The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.

Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension.  The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.

Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao.  The same may or may not be available to the SFA.

There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.

If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic.  Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……

One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen.  He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.

We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

Fair enough fella. I know you’re back and long may it continue to generate debate but be careful about being too guarded would be my advice. Pushing people ‘offline’ looks noble but you press that button too soon and look a bit passive / aggressive.

Not looking to have a barney, had enough of those yesterday with a couple of eijits on here, but points will be read, supported, misread, not read and abused all in one sitting. It’s the way of the social conversations mate.

Anyway, feel free to tell me where to go but intentions from me are honourable.

I applaud you for that, but as I said before, a football match is not the place for a political protest. That is my honest opinion.

Perfect intervention from the Village Idiot. You already know where to find me if you want to discuss this in private, and I know where to find you.

You’re the second person today to have a pop at the article WITHOUT READING IT.

I have nothing but contempt for that. Don’t even ask me to take it seriously.

This is the last time I post to you on this site. Like I said, you know where I am if you do want to discuss it.

Well, Celtic have said they want to see the exact wording mate, so we’ll see what transpires from there.

I simply think that UEFA’s point is a nonsense. The very act of calling the flag of a nation recognised by 134 countries, which is a UN observer nation, which plays as an independent state in the AFC, under the auspices of FIFA, a political symbol because they are at war with another nation state, who’s flag can be seen in grounds across Europe and is deemed perfectly valid … well it’s a political statement in itself.

    Sheer hypocrisy.

Can someone tell me under what rule or article UEFA are trying to sanction us & St Johnstone for displaying a Palestinian flag?

For some unfortunate souls it will be the only referendum in their lifetime.

I still can’t find eck saying it anywhere though. I’ll look when I’m less busy.

  9. TD67, You’re an aul fella like myself, there is no one threatening you. A discussion is a discussion not a square go.

I try my best at times to keep it civil. At times, when pushed, I fall well below those standards. On the previous page, I’ve published my email address so that anyone who wants to have a go, a personal dig as opposed to a debate, can do it without yourself and other people having to read through it.

I am well aware that I’ve let myself down at times on here. I’m trying, at least, not to do it any longer, although even today I did let it slip.

If you’re asking me if I occasionally act like an arse, the answer is yes, of course I do. I am the first to recognise it and I think it’s my least redeeming personality trait.

“I would love the Palestinian Authorities to take a case against UEFA or some human rights group.”

I think they have more pressing concerns to be honest. In fact I doubt they are even aware of UEFA’s stance.

  13. Interesting debate on the flags lads, whilst we await the Guidetti clarification. That sounds like a book title or a film. “The Guidetti Clarification” starring Harrison Ford as Peter Lawell.

For those advocating that we just obey this new rule on, what seems to be Palestinian flags only, and get on with it, I assume you think was Bob Kelly was therefore wrong in 1951-52 Season to continue to fly the Irish Tricolour at Parkhead ?

    Have to say I don’t.

You’re spot on mate(comments on here, not read the article yet) – at the Commonwealth Games they were throwing people out some events for displaying Saltires with ‘Yes’ emblazoned on them as they were deemed political. Saltires with no such message were allowed, obviously.

Unless there were political slogans dubbed on the Palestinian flags then Uefa are opening up a can of worms imo…

I think we all know the reasons for Celtic’s stance over the Irish flag.

The issue with the Palestinian flag is totally different from that. Unless Celtic has links with Palestine that I am unaware of.

Trying hard mate, honestly. This has been a tough few months in which I’ve had to eat an awful, awful lot of abuse from various sources. It goes with the territory, for sure, and I am sure Paul67 could provide 1000 horror stories that make my own experiences seem minor. I am only in my second year of doing this, and until lately it was … tolerable.

Now it’s getting a bit heavy, in some quarters. Not something I’m used to at all.

  25. A thought…

Celtic have flag poles all around the stadium. Lots of other clubs across Europe do too. Does this mean UEFA have provided a list of acceptable & unacceptable emblems?

  26. Izzy now getting it in the neck !!……….I will remind everybody that Izzy had ……for the most part Joe Ledley in front of him………now he has Stefen ( the coward ) Johansen in front of him ………..or fecking Berget !!!!…………poor Izzy…..must be having nightmares !!!

    ——————————————————————

Sounds like other have influence over him. Makes him sound like a tradeable commodity.

What will their next agenda be? To leave him to settle at Celtic for the next 4 years? Or, to rumble him into a move and make a commission from the next trade.?

I wonder what odds the bookies will give you on his completing a 4 year contract.

Well done to the club for quashing any notions of a transfer for VvD . More people on here heard the manager’s statement but continued to post that he would be sold anyway. So far, I have not seen any retractions or apologies. Bet there would have been plenty “told you so” if he had gone.

So, to link both those items – I hope that I have to retract and apologise in 4 years time when Stefan has completed his contract. If so, I will certainly do so.

  28. Away out for my afternoon walk, maybe just maybe there will be some good news on the Guidetti affair when I get back. I will not hold by breath Cheers
