GUIDETTI GETS THE RONNY TREATMENT

RONNY DEILA seems to be more impressive with each passing day as a boss of a football club and as a man manager.

Celtic players over the last few weeks seem to have been revealing their own one-on-one interactions with the ambitious young Celtic manager and each player seems to be mightily impressed by their gaffer.

Deila has told each of them what he expects from them and what they have to do to be successful in his Celtic side. For the likes of Griffiths, Henderson, Bitton and Commons the Deila magic seems to be working. Each player as a result seems to have a spring in their step.

Now the Norwegian has turned his attention to on loan Manchester City striker and fellow Scandinavian John Guidetti who has been out of sorts in recent months with the goals drying up after a spectacular start to his time at Celtic.

Ronny Deila thinks he has the answers that Guidetti is seeking as he strives to regain his mojo.

Here is what Ronny had to say about all of this yesterday. It provides a fascinating insight into the young Celtic manager…

‘The worst thing in life is to have things going well because it is so easy to use energy on other things and you’re not aware of why you are good.

‘When everything is going well people start to get individualistic.

‘In Norway, we have a lot of money so now everyone is thinking about self-realisation.

‘It’s not taking care of each other. It’s ‘I’m going to look perfect and have the best house, the best job.

‘When things go bad everyone comes together and does the easy things. That’s what happens in football clubs too.

‘When things are not in the right order then you need to be together.

‘You have to understand when things are going well why they are going well.

‘Are your team-mates helping you do well? It’s a tough thing for young players to get the focus.

‘When you score so many goals he is a big star and it is so easy to lose focus on the important things.

‘The only important thing you have to ask yourself when you make a decision is, ‘Is this making me a better player?’

‘If the answer is ‘no’ you have to stop doing it and start doing the things that got you progressing and the things that get you ready for games.

‘That can be hard for young players. You are a big star at Celtic but you have to understand why you are a big star. You have a thousand offers to do different things and you have to choose the right ones.

‘That’s what young players have to learn. It’s my task to tell them this but they have to experience it themselves.

‘When you have been there hopefully they will come back quick the next time they have a bad spell.

‘Now we have to work on his mental aspect and to be a 24-hour athlete. It is about being prepared for every training session and every match.

‘When you are young everything can feel okay and you are flying. But that is why young players have good spells and bad spells.

‘Then you start to get conscious of why you are good. That helps you to do it over and over again. The more experienced players always know what to do to get ready for the next game.

‘A lot has been going on in John’s mind but he now has the right focus.

‘In the last three weeks he has been working really hard in training and I know he will come again.

‘Before that the intensity wasn’t where I wanted it. But he now understands what it’s all about. He will progress and come back at the level he was.

‘Everyone also has to remember that he had been out for two years before. He came here with a lot of energy and with nothing to lose when he went out on the pitch.

‘He started scoring a lot of goals but then he didn’t manage to play three matches a week because his fitness was not good enough. Now things have gone a little bit down but he will come again.

‘I understand people put a question mark on it. But I know from my experience it is not just a case of coming back and things going one way. There are going to be downs.”

Ronny Deila remains keen to sign Guidetti on a permanent deal. An offer was made to the player in January but no agreement was reached amid speculation that clubs like Southampton, Ajax and Marseilles were interested in signing the 23 year old Swede. Delia has put the matter back until April and if he can work his magic on Guidetti in the meantime, Celtic might have a player who is keen to remain at the club.

If the player wants to go elsewhere then Ronny Delia isn’t the sort to shed a tear at the loss. ‘We don’t want a player who doesn’t want to be here, that’s for sure.

‘But if he wants it and comes back then we will start talking again. But it is good for him that we don’t talk about it just now.

‘Things are good just now but we still have to be precise in everything we are doing as if we had lost five games.

‘That’s mentality, that’s professionalism, that’s what wins trophies.’
