Guidetti the exceptional talent

1003

We’ve had a few free kick experts in modern times.  Lubo was first.  He could hit them, and score with them, with either foot.  The man was a menace to opponents on many levels.  He also taught us that hitting the ball as hard as possible into an opponent’s body, standard fare for Celtic in the 80s and early 90s, was a poor return from a dead ball situation.

Lubo clearly influenced Shaun but it wasn’t until Naka arrived that Shaun really found his grove.  With right footed Maloney and left footed Nakamura lining up behind the ball keepers were forced to leave a vulnerable space at any centrally-located free kick.

I don’t remember any player scoring with three consecutive free kicks, an absolutely exceptional feat.  John Guidetti is proving to be an exceptional player.  From what I hear he’s also enjoying being a Celtic player, there’s been a meeting of minds on what is expected and what’s on offer.

This is a young player who has already learned a few lessons on football clubs and career management.  He has the makings of a Celtic legend.

Those of you who weren’t there last night, make sure you see the goals.  Four of them were exceptional.

Many thanks to everyone who has big on our auction for two debenture seats for the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Celtic sponsor, Magners.  Funds raised go towards building our forth kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, specifically for the 909 children who attend Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which currently doesn’t have a kitchen.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but………  things are improving.  93% of your money raised is getting to the projects on the ground, Mary’s Meals are now feeding hundreds of thousands of kids there each day, over 2000 of them in kitchens CQN readers have already built.

Kids who are fed at school there are able to attend instead of having to work for food – primary school attendance is up 30% after Mary’s Meals build a kitchen.  As a result they all get a basic education, some of them are set on a road to a higher education and all have better chances in life.

The auction closes tomorrow. You will do nothing better today than get involved with this one, which you can do here.

Quick Poll. What do we want more Guidetti or Living Wage for all of our Employees?

    Lawell is listening…

    ————-

I would offer Guidetti at least the Living Wage, failing to do so may hamper transfer negotiations with him!

  2. Thanks for the welcome! Knew I timed it right to post at 2pm and not 2am!

Maloney wasn’t THAT good at free kicks

    Big Pierre was better

    I beg to differ

  4. Mccourt,

Livibhoys answer is of course correct but if it’s gotta be one or the other…..

It’s got to be the one all Celtic fans have craved for since time began.

Not the one that has only just piqued our interest in the last couple of years.

Talking of John McPhail, met him a few times in the company of my Da (God rest both of them) when I was about 18. Pissed my auld man off by constantly asking questions about how it felt to score the winner in ’51 etc. He loved it really but enjoyed winning the league 3 years later so much more. Huns were dominant in his time and winning the title was the pinnacle for him. Think he managed a handful of Scotland caps and scored a few goals.

When you look back at the amount of caps some of our players didnt get it says it all.

Wonder why Ive only attended 3 Scotland games in my lifetime ?

Always remember the sinking feeling in the gut when Galloway and Grant and not Collins and McStay in midfield.

John Collins was sublime, thought it strange he stuck it through the dire times and left at the end of his contract though just as Fergus rode into Dodge.

The move to Monaco probably made him for life financially, so that’s fair, short career is football.

His big brother was proud of him for ’57. All the best mate

  8. At stage 2 of the Offensive Bahaviour process Celtic opposed the section 1 offence: offensive behaviour at football – essentially arguing as many others did, that the offenses were covered by existing legislation. They supported a need for the section 5 offence: threatening communications.

    Bore yourself reading this

  9. BocchiniBhoy

I would include Nakamura and Maloney . I never had the privilege to see the first 4

  10. Murdo seemed to take a better shot at goal when the free kick was tapped to him, then a blast into the net.

    Not very subtle but effective.

  11. borgo67

Toasted or roasted? and it was all going so well……I think growing up it was always roasted now probably toasted; my wife is posh and I’ve been influenced by her, is that a defence or am I a wimp? Both? Is that allowed?

    HH

  12. Lubo and Naka stand alone Dena ..Maybe Naka just shades Lubo ……. maybe

Aye the Pole could do it too…… good shout

    and Thommo wisnae bad either

  13. BocchiniBhoy

How was Naka at free kicks with his other foot?

Lubo is one of the finest players to ever wear the Hoops in my opinion.

  14. Imo many of the names mentioned took a braw freekick but only nakamura could be described as a free kick expert.

  15. mcphailbhoy

Think you will have to choose one to be fully admitted to the crazy house .

Toasted is posh ? Thought it was the other way round.

  16. It would appear obvious that we have had some cracking free kick takers at Celtic

,long may it continue perhaps our new Bhoy will become a legend like most of those mentioned

  17. “Nakamura should be on that list.”

    Should he? It’s his list.

Con Ernie, stick him on your list. Join in the fun:)

  18. livibhoy

Glad you mentioned Stan , he had a fierce shot. For some reason it seemed to desert him in his last few years with us , but it seemed to return at Villa.

The boy that sat next to me then said he had a knee problem , never heard that confirmed.

Always thought Stan a brilliant one on one with keeper finisher.

  19. borgo67

What? Do you mean the wife isn’t posh or toasted isn’t? This is more complicated than I thought

  20. borgo67

Hunskelper Alan Thompson could hit a good free kick.

Barry Robson was also something of a free kick expert.

In the current side Kris Commons and Charlie Mulgrew can both hit a decent free kick.

Not sure any of those Bhoys could be described as specialists though.

The club’s responsibilities with regard to releasing information to the Police under the exemption to the Data Protection Act are in this document

    —————————-

    Yes,

but it doesnt answer my question – the only circumstance described in this document that would legally oblige the club to hand over info to the police is if they get a court order

the document implies that without a court order, the club are not obliged to hand over information to the police even if the police are trying to catch a ‘suspect’ (though i suspect the police’s definition of the word ‘suspect’ will be very suspect)

so in fact this makes me even more sure that the club are willingly handing over personal details of fans to FOCUS when in fact there is no obligation on them to do so

their silence on the matter doesnt make it any better

i would have no problem on them giving information on people inside the stadium who had committed an assault, thrown a beer bottle onto the pitch or pulled a grenade out of their pocket, however i think names and addresses have been handed over of young guys in section 111 who have been indulging in lateral movement or helping to hold up a banner with some slogan on it, which to me isnt acceptable

Tidy win last night. Is a 6 goal victory becomes the new “regulation 5-0″?

Lots of bollox on the OBAFTC Act, and Celtic’s part in it.

For those who wish to know, Celtic’s position has been articulated formally twice, once at committee stage, and once earlier this year. On both occasions they have been unambiguously against it.

    ……………………………………….

Unambiguously against it doesn’t come up in the minutes of JAG but what does come out loud and clear is the fact that it was Celtic and Rangers who suggested FoCUS within weeks of the shame game.

As to OB Bill Celtic silent at JAG minutes which suggest they went along with it. There is certainly no hint of opposition. Oh and don’t try and get detailed minutes of who proposed/ seconded or spoke at these meeting because the government wont give you them.

Celtic’s submission to the Justice Committee on the Bill was little more than a token objection at a time when their involvement and acquiescence with the OB was well established though private at that time and when the written objections from all groups and ordinary fans made it difficult for them to do anything other than put in their weak protest.

  23. BocchiniBhoy

Del Piero was the best free kick taker I saw. What a player that boy was.
