Guidetti the exceptional talent

1003

We’ve had a few free kick experts in modern times.  Lubo was first.  He could hit them, and score with them, with either foot.  The man was a menace to opponents on many levels.  He also taught us that hitting the ball as hard as possible into an opponent’s body, standard fare for Celtic in the 80s and early 90s, was a poor return from a dead ball situation.

Lubo clearly influenced Shaun but it wasn’t until Naka arrived that Shaun really found his grove.  With right footed Maloney and left footed Nakamura lining up behind the ball keepers were forced to leave a vulnerable space at any centrally-located free kick.

I don’t remember any player scoring with three consecutive free kicks, an absolutely exceptional feat.  John Guidetti is proving to be an exceptional player.  From what I hear he’s also enjoying being a Celtic player, there’s been a meeting of minds on what is expected and what’s on offer.

This is a young player who has already learned a few lessons on football clubs and career management.  He has the makings of a Celtic legend.

Those of you who weren’t there last night, make sure you see the goals.  Four of them were exceptional.

Many thanks to everyone who has big on our auction for two debenture seats for the Inverness game on Saturday, courtesy of Celtic sponsor, Magners.  Funds raised go towards building our forth kitchen for Mary’s Meals in Malawi, specifically for the 909 children who attend Chibwata Primary School in Dowa, which currently doesn’t have a kitchen.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, but………  things are improving.  93% of your money raised is getting to the projects on the ground, Mary’s Meals are now feeding hundreds of thousands of kids there each day, over 2000 of them in kitchens CQN readers have already built.

Kids who are fed at school there are able to attend instead of having to work for food – primary school attendance is up 30% after Mary’s Meals build a kitchen.  As a result they all get a basic education, some of them are set on a road to a higher education and all have better chances in life.

The auction closes tomorrow. You will do nothing better today than get involved with this one, which you can do here.

Not sure how long FBO’s have been in place but I don’t think it is 20 years.

  2. Either Tonev or SFA is lying. If he is guilty as charged, he should be punted back to whence he came. However, we will probably not uncover the truth. SSN slavering over this. Quelle surprise……..NOT.

Celtic supported the establishment of FoCUS because of the widespread variation in how matches were policed, dependent as it was upon locality.

Folk would be arrested in one town but not another for the same offence. The standard of Policing of football matches was determined by local tolerances rather than law.

It was expected that a single approach to policing nationally would help to remove the variability, for example, where singing the Billy Boys was indictable in Motherwell but not say Dunfermline.

The fact that FoCUS rapidly became a rabid beast barking to the order of its political master might have been foreseen, but wasn’t.

From memory I believe there are much more than w FoCUS officers at certain games. I have all the guff at home.

FoCUS set the operating standards for the local Cops to implement. That’s their remit.

Suffering from the effects of a family do last night – does anyone have a link to the goals?

Some players seem to engender affinity amongst the fans.

    Kismet.

Guidetti is young enough to be a Celtic great and ply his trade elsewhere.

He excites Celtic fans – that’s a rare commodity these days – whatever the reasons.

    Get him signed Celtic.

The SFA must have had corroborating evidence to come to such a decision surely?

    Shirley??? Don’t call me Shirley.

Do SFA need corroborative evidence when it is Celtic?

  8. I’ve been (sitting here) thinking… what’s with all the hype about Guidetti?

I mean, yeah, he scored a hattrick last night, but two of the goals were free kicks and the other one was a penalty. Also, his goal at the weekend was…yeah u guessed it…. A FREE KICK.

When I think about it… has he scored a ‘proper’ goal yet?

His ‘first’ against St. Mirren was an OG and for his second the keeper should have saved it as it squirmed under his legs

And his goal against Ross County was offside…

    Get rid Ronny!!

    ………Oh and Lawwell out!

    B-)

  9. Tonev; there must be more to it than this but surely he said/the other said can’t be the only evidence? I know the SFA have form but even for them that’s too far?

  10. The club cannot put its reputation on Tonev’s word. Even if he continues to deny it, we should be sending him back. It’s out of the clubs hands.

To my good friend Mike in Toronto, I really enjoyed the dinner last night and apart from my small linguistic faux pas, it was yet another excellent evening of good grub and braw conversation.

Obviously delighted with last nights display and great to see the blog so positive again. I must admit that it’s tough to even lurk on here at times. Fingers crossed we are back on track on and off the field.

To the rest of my good friends looking in, i’ll raise a glass tonight to you all:)

  12. If someone calls me a racist and has no proof, I’m sueing your arse off, make no mistake about that, so the SFA better have proof.

And for all we know they may have, let’s wait and see.

FOCUS had a platform to be created because of the behaviour of supporters at football of all hues. Not just Celtic.

If you look at England, faced with organised supporter groups pushing their particular agendas left or right, the police got organised.

Any club would wish police help to protect them from excessive supporter behaviour so they would engage with the police in talks.

That is my point. Celtic are no different from other clubs.

If you start from the honest point that some supporters do misbehave and hoops are not halos, you can appreciate why Celtic were in talks with the police.

    Ha! Well done!

But, be honest now …. you’ve been watching The Big Bang Theory, haven’t you? (Cant blame you … that Penny is a bit of a cutie!)

On a more serious note… what did Tonev say to justify a 7 game ban? Given what else is tolerated in Scotland, that seems quite harsh.

  18. Stairheedrammy on

Faithfulthroughandthru, shouldn’t we wait to see if it’s typical SFA kangaroo justice for a Celtic player before we do what they want and make it an even bigger issue. You think a Sevco player would have received a similar sentence? Celtic believe the player and they know him better than we do so I’d accept their plan to appeal.

  19. TD67

Honestly, it’s just one player. You are never going to get proof. If there was a second witness or video footage we’d have seen it.

Personally I am not all that wild on a player who knocked us back 12 months before he flopped at Villa. From what I’ve heard, he isn’t that excited to be here.

  20. Kitalba/ TBB

Celtic have been told there are never more than two FoCUS officers at any one game.

I disputed that with Celtic and Celtic have disputed it with Police Scotland (not as a result of my initial dispute obviously).

Having a camera does not necessarily mean that an officer is a member of the FoCUS group…..apparently.

  21. Stairheedrammy on

Just a wee reminder of how the SFA treats us- how did the Gardyne thing go with the compliance office.

  22. We are talking about a man’s career here, his livelihood, I have seen the race card pulled many times but not for the right reasons, now I don’t know what was said, but it seems that neither does anyone else.

Tonev will get another club. Hows Suarez and Terry doing?

People who run football clubs don’t care and neither do the fans. I doubt Tonev will never be a player again.

  24. FAB Virgil, you are being very kind to our board and describing them as if they were some sort of naive wee laddies.

These people are the stewards of our heritage and supposed leaders of industry. If they don’t have the nous to see a trap in going along with police officers wanting more power and new Draconian laws then they are not fit for purpose.

The Glosgow police in general would welcome the moss growing on the slopes of Celtic Park and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Any director/CEO of Celtic worth their salt would have had nothing to do with a summit after the so called shame game. Why would we attend when the events were a storm in a tea cup that had nothing to do with Celtic?

  25. Seven games is that because he plays for us, John Terry got four I believe, I wouldn’t trust the SFA to put my rubbish out. Shite Football Association run entirely for the benefit of one club..

  26. timaloy29

That’s not the point, you just can’t toss him overboard, a wee bit of help at least, as you say no one knows, so we have to back him, it’s the right thing.

Exactly, however the findings will be based upon grounds of probability I.E. why would someone make up a story to damage anothers reputation!!

Why indeed,is it a coincidence that a team with a previously good relationship with CFC,have now developed a foul mouthed support of toilet wreckers, and now an accusation of the worst possible type.

Add to that a reduction in ticket allocation when they could only muster 9311 last night, makes you wonder who is the driving force or influence.

On occasions have sat in ” wrong” End and Stand at Pittodrie and even through the Fergie era never experienced any serious aggression other than normal team affiliation stuff.

Hardly think sending him back to Aston Villa and his tidy salary is throwing him under a bus.

The Club have said he is to appeal and they back this. The process should run its course and Tonev possibly sit it out until the appeal.
