GUIDETTI: WAGE CONCERNS

JOHN GUIDETTI’S wage demands could frighten off Feyenoord as they line up a move for the on-loan Celtic striker.

The Swede completes his season-long loan at the SPFL champions at the end of next month.

He is also out of contract at Manchester City and there have been persistent stories linking him with a return to the Rotterdam club.

The 22-year-old had a season at De Kuip in 2011/12 where he scored 20 goals in 23 games to become a fans’ favourite with the Dutch giants.

Ronny Deila has admitted he will have talks with the frontman at some stage this month, but Guidetti has insisted he will not be rushed into making a decision.

However, reports from Holland indicate that any possible move to Feyenoord could hit a stumbling block over the player’s salary expectations.

That has alerted Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini, who had Guidetti at the Etihad in his three-year spell with the English giants.

The Italian was impressed by his former frontman when he netted the Hoops’ last-gasp equaliser in the 3-3 Europa League draw at Parkhead in February. French outfit Marseille are also keeping tabs on the situation.

Feyenoord have just signed former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt from Turkish side Fenerbahce and the 34-year-old attacker has issued a “come and join me” plea to Guidetti.

He scored 11 goals in 16 games for the Hoops until the turn of the year, but has struggled in the second period of the campaign.

Guidetti has claimed a paltry three goals in almost three-and-a-half months and only made an ineffectual appearance as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Inverness Caley Thistle on Saturday.

Guidetti is in danger of failing to make the most of his career basically because he thinks he is much better than he actually is. Manchester City lost faith in him a long time ago and even with Celtic’s longing for a new number 9 hero, Guidetti has not delivered in anyone’s eyes but his own.

In January Ronny Deila was keen to get him signed up then stated that due to the reluctance at the player’s side, discussions would be put on hold until April. Well April is here and there is no desire from Celtic to re-ignite the conversation. Guidetti’s options may end up being more limited than he thinks.
