Gutter Life

Newco’s narcotic-type dependency on ever-more-creative PR was illustrated on BBC Radio Scotland last night by Michael Stewart, who highlighted ludicrously false attempted murder stories fed to the newspapers, followed by rushed and selectively edited TV interviews when the truth became apparent.

Meanwhile, every other football club in Scotland goes about their business, where PR prepare information ahead of games, like any normal entity.

On this occasion, two Celtic season ticket holders (quite rightly) reported to the police an incident, observed only by a handful of Celtic fans, by another fan at last month’s defeat.

Celtic fans’ abhorrence of intolerance is commendable, we hold ourselves to a higher standard.  The club cannot cut across this with denials or deflections. Others have exploited that police report shamelessly, but that is Gutter Life.

Still, a roll of the dice is a roll of the dice – your words.

Anyway, the manager clearly doesnt believe that

    a) he has earned his chance or

    b) he is good enough, or

    c) all of the above

And I think that Lenny has earned the right to be trusted to pick the team and not constantly face calls for inclusion for a guy who is struggling in training and possibly not even giving his all.

As others have pointed out, there is a pecking order for the team, there are many ahead of Shved right now and in this business, it may seem harsh, but we have games to win and if roll the dice and get beat we know the reaction there will be, not only from our own support but from everyone else.

We don’t need to rely on pot luck of rolling a dice to beat Clyde and more importantly, we shouldn’t be risking our cup run in that way when we don’t need to.

You also make a very big assumption that a match vs Clyde would be a confidence booster for Shved.

I think you have to trust the manager on this one.

  4. Ther’s guys on the bench who have been giving 100% in training. You can’t leave them out the squad for someone who isn’t. That leads to other players not really trying in traing as thay will see they don’t have to, por cierto

I think we can say with some confidence that the top Ukranian League is of a higher quality than Scottish League One. A guy who’s played Dynamo Kiev and Shaktar Donesk shouldn’t be phased by Clyde.

To clarify, I am not advocating that Shved starts tomorrow night when we are still in the midst of a title race.

There is indeed a natural pecking order and I’d expect Neil Lennon to pick the strongest side available.

However, tomorrow will be the first in a run of 7 games in 22 days. This will be taxing on the squad. Clyde are by some way the weakest opposition we will play in that run in. In fact, they are the weakest opposition we will have played all season.

Celtic will be wise to rest players and I expect they will. The question will be who steps in? Boli, Simunovic, Welsh, Bauer, Robertson, Henderson, Connell, Arzani, Shved, Bayo and Klimala will all be options.

Who has the highest ceiling out of that group? Who would benefit the most out of that group?

Spot on. Theres a little guy called Karamoko chomping at the bit and while we need to be very careful with him he is an example of how to get yourself into contention.

Of course, if Shved is having personal problems or just simply isnt good enough thats not a reflection on him, the former can happen to anyone and the latter brings up questions about our recruitment process.

But we can’t keep calling for inclusion just for the satisfaction or our own peace of mind of seeing for ourselves that something is not right.

    Trust the manager.

I think he was suggesting, albeit rather obliquely, that as well as being a malign influence generally, Jabba is dangerous to the huns because he is not acting in their best interests and is undermining them for personal gain.

Roy Keane wasn’t that bad in that game.

Either way, he was recovering from a serious injury and the minutes would have done him good.

Roy went on to make some decent contributions that season. He wasn’t the Roy Keane of 10 years ealier but he generally strolled it.

  10. Shved being left out of the European squad doesn’t mean he can’t play domestically.

The bhoy is obviously having a tough time adjusting. Hopefully the Club is doing everything it can to help in that respect.

I wouldn’t hold up the Ukrainian league as some sort of bastion of beautiful football, yes clearly better than Scottish league 1! But Shved will have to be judged here and earn a place, just like everyone else. We can;t judge him on what he did a year ago thousands of miles away.

We thought he was worth a punt, it hasn’t panned out that way yet. He still has time but time will not wait.

Yes, I think there will be some rotation against Clyde, I don’t think a huge amount as I don;t think that is our managers style, rightly or wrongly.

But if Shved is out of contention for this and the rest of the season I trust the managers judgement.

I think we all had high hopes for Shved based on his YouTube clips (I know, i know). Hopefully he’s just taking a bit of time to settle and he’ll come good. It took Big Vic a few months to find his feet. Also, the Europa League final is near ish Shveds old stomping ground so he could be a big advantage come May 🏆🏆🏆🏆

I think we will see more rotation than usual against Clyde. We didn’t rotate much against Thistle and Dumferline but they are operating at a higher level and budget to Clyde. That combined with a crazy schedule will contribute.

The Ukranian league is objectively stronger than the SPFL nevermind the third tier.

I trust Neil Lennon but I will always have my own opinions on how things should be. Shved seems to be in a bit of a rut mentally. If it gave him a lift we could reap the benefits.

There is a gap in the squad behind James Forrest. It’s up to Neil to try and get either Shved or Arzani to step into that gap.

Already got a gaff sorted but if he can get me cheap booze then he deserves a statue on the Celtic Way 😂😂🍻🍺🍷

  18. Jobo, Re the goalscoring statistics, we are in close agreement but one main divergence is I have Eddie on 22, & poor Bayo on 1.

I think 2 of the goals you are crediting him with were later ruled as O.Gs.

Apart from that I have Julien 1 less & Johntson 1 more.

Just twigged that the Stats for each individual game are on the Official site.

It would be a bit painstaking to go back & click on each individual game & recount the goals

Don’t feel like doing it today.

  19. The Morelos affair is becoming sinister. The Record claim it was a PI working for his wife who was attempting to fix a tracker on the car. The Sky Interview was not only partial but it seems the translation into English by Sky was not what Morelos said in Spanish. It was also clearly scripted. Celtic should have announced they had investigated the Racialism claim and that there is no evidence of racial language neither in English or Spanish.

I fear the PR for Morelos issues is linked to the Griffiths debacle and the need for the statement by McCoist and McFadden and others to deflect matters away from the recent poor Hun performances

Another good performance against Motherwell coupled by another poor performance at Ibrox should see more squirrels being released

  20. TOBAGO STREET,

Prob means a Celtic fan will get done(most likely for something involving Morelos).

While the Huns come to our ground and do as they please…only guessing mind.

Its possible, and will be interesting to see come Sunday. Hopefully no additional injuries after Wednesday.

The Ukrainian league is clearly very decent but that was Shveds comfort zone, standards at Celtic are far higher than Karpaty Livy and we are expected to dispatch of Clyde confidently or there will be recriminations.

Our manager doesn’t want or need that, and I suspect he will feel that Shved is not in a place at the moment to help dispatch anyone confidently, nor do I think Clyde are to be taken lightly. Danny Lennon will have them organised and on a less than perfect surface none of this supports the inclusion of a guy who is apparently not putting the effort every day.

  24. So Shved’s English isn’t good enough? When Emilio Izzaguire was SPL Player of the Season he could scarcely speak a word of English. And Shved is not trying hard enough in training? Why would he not try hard enough?

    i’m not convinced.

  25. SIEMPRE CELTIC (FORMERLY TRADITIONALIST88) on 4TH FEBRUARY 2020 3:36 PM

Neil Lennon will have a difficult choice to make for the Clyde game.

Frimpong won’t be available to play wing-back. James Forrest is the first choice right-winger and we have 7 games in 22 days.

Nothing else beyond that apart from Arzani or Shved.

Though there is always a diamond midfield I suppose.

  26. If I understand Paul’s post, then a couple of Celtic fans told the police that another Celtic fan was shouting racist abuse. This is in the police report and Celtic, unlike the manky mob, should not try to deflect from it if it happened.

In other words, ban the eejit from Celtic Park.

The way the manager is talking, and hes admitted publicly that Shved is not training well(*), there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he would change the system or even use a square peg in a round hole rather use Shved right now.

(*Quite an admission to make publicly rather than just saying hes got a little knock or something – If hes admitting this publicly you have to wonder what he specifically means by this – most likely either not good enough technically, or not giving his all, being affected by personal problems, or all of the above. I wouldn;t get hopes up about seeing him this season tbh.)
