Halcyon days to falling on the ball

214

I was told during the week that whenever I preview an opponent they seem to be on a run of good form.  So I’m delighted to share the information that Morton have not won any of their five Championship or Challenge Cup games played since November.  They even lost on Saturday, when bottom club Hamilton arrested a seven game losing streak in the league.

After a storied wander across Scotland since leaving Celtic, which took him to Hibs, Livingston, St Johnstone and Dunfermline, Efe Ambrose (34) settled in Greenock earlier this season and is expected to make a return to the Celtic Park pitch tomorrow.

His mind will no doubt drift back to halcyon days – beating Barcelona, included.  Let me take you back to another Efe occasion, though, just 10 months after that Barcelona win.  Morton visited Celtic Park on League Cup while they were bottom of the Championship.  The visitors knew they were onto a hiding if they dared lose concentration, so wilfully stuck to their task.

The game went to extra time when Efe fell on the ball inside the Celtic penalty area.  Current Morton manager, Dougie Imrie, scored with the resultant spot kick and apparent no-hopers knocked the champions out of the League Cup.  We started the game slow, Morton got into a defensive rhythm and no amount of effort could change the outcome.

No chance of that happening tomorrow.  Right?

Shudder. Was that the game that went to penalties when Kenny Miller tried to show off with his and hit the bar?

  2. Celtic target Oh Hyeon-gyu has revealed he asked to complete his military service as early as possible.

    Seems this one might happen

Personally don’t object to your bigging up the next opposition Pablo.

    Winning football matches is hard.

The process needs to be trusted.

    Patience often required …

… On the pitch and in the stands

Glaswegian translation of Celtics Korean targets name,

    Oh Hyeon Gyu.

    As for Efe? Torn.

    Remember his debut vividly.

It was only Raith Rovers but he played as a holding mid and looked like Beckenbauer.

Barcelona probably his zenith (although that was about the team, not individuals)

If so, Juventus was his nadir.

Just off the plane from AFCON, he was bloody awful.

IMHO, Neil panicked by selecting him.

    Killed his Celtic career.

  6. Not too many changes for me tomorrow.

Haksa needs games, Bernabei needs games as does Kobayashi. Play them all.

Nice to have Iwata on the field for a cameo and I’d have Mooy back in to give Callum a rest, as well as CCV.

O’Riley needs a goal to get that monkey off his back and at the moment we reliant on Kyogo if we want to sell GG.

Great squad. Do we have 5 subs in the cup ?

Will this weekend be when Beale’s luck runs out in their patchy form ?

Transfers seemed to have dried up.

    Wonder why?

    —————————————————————

Could it be because we’ve already completed 75% of our intended business, whilst still negotiating on the rest?

    Just a thought…

  8. Jeezo P67….I thought I worried too much…lol

Like most of our games, our biggest danger could come from ourselves (complacency; poor form). Get our attitude right, put in the effort, and we should prevail.

  10. Surely Joe Hart shouldn’t start tomorrow, Siegrist has to get some kind of game time, por cierto

  11. Seen Morton beating us 1-0 during the Ronny era,

Dont think the same tomorrow as we are in a different place, respect them then win Celtic.

I hope a few get a run out tomorrow,Bernabei and some of the squadpool. There is a b team game at 3 so i may not see rocco vata at CP.but hopefully in time he pulls through to first team

Interesting he finds solace in flying a peregrine.

Glad he is able to find solace.

  13. SFTB – That midfield 3 is as slow as a week in jail…

Interacting with the natural world probably helps people, at some deep atavistic level, to deal with the after effects of trauma, by reaching beyond the here and now.

  15. AT thanks for the info earlier and your kind words

I imagine I will be the emotional one, got some vague memories of going to my first game in 1968/9, as long as not too many people ask if it’s my grandson 😀

  17. If we get the Korean guy in,seems he can play on the right side of strikers, even attacking midfield.Would hope Ange is thinking of playing two strikers in games,we know not all,but variety gives opponent the shakes.

    Would be a great option.
