Halcyon days to falling on the ball

I was told during the week that whenever I preview an opponent they seem to be on a run of good form.  So I’m delighted to share the information that Morton have not won any of their five Championship or Challenge Cup games played since November.  They even lost on Saturday, when bottom club Hamilton arrested a seven game losing streak in the league.

After a storied wander across Scotland since leaving Celtic, which took him to Hibs, Livingston, St Johnstone and Dunfermline, Efe Ambrose (34) settled in Greenock earlier this season and is expected to make a return to the Celtic Park pitch tomorrow.

His mind will no doubt drift back to halcyon days – beating Barcelona, included.  Let me take you back to another Efe occasion, though, just 10 months after that Barcelona win.  Morton visited Celtic Park on League Cup while they were bottom of the Championship.  The visitors knew they were onto a hiding if they dared lose concentration, so wilfully stuck to their task.

The game went to extra time when Efe fell on the ball inside the Celtic penalty area.  Current Morton manager, Dougie Imrie, scored with the resultant spot kick and apparent no-hopers knocked the champions out of the League Cup.  We started the game slow, Morton got into a defensive rhythm and no amount of effort could change the outcome.

No chance of that happening tomorrow.  Right?

    Makeshift camera(s) were positioned on the roof of the jungle at the Celtic 1 liverpool 0 game.I was not at the game but my recollection is the goal was scored at the west terracing end.Just in from a very tiring day…zzzzzzzz

    My old man was down at the game. Said it was robbery.

     

    He also said the Liverpool supporters had been chucking stuff during the game.

     

     

    As you say though, bottle throwing was part of the game back then. I remember getting hit by a bottle thrown by our own supporter at a game v Hibs at Hampden. Fortunately, it didn’t hit me hard and I had a thick hood on my jacket which lessened the impact so I was unhurt.

    Just what has Hampden got to do with our surface.Nothing.A couple of Celtic Blogs highlighted the poor condition of ours the other night.Obviously you dont watch other football.A Championship game tonight at Burnley,put our pitch to shame.Burnley for Gods sake.Ibrox even better than ours at the moment.

    That fee doesn’t sound right for Jura, it’s a record fee for UB and they’ve only spent anywhere near it on two players ever.

     

     

    Its a great bit of business by Michael Nicholson if it’s true.

    Our Davie Hay wisnae impacted @ all @ Celtic Park.

    Reo is unique.

    You need to stay @ Celtic to be considered a True Great. Theres no way Market pressures will allow Reo to dae that.

    Fair well Josip. A very good signing and a player who made a significant contribution to a league title win which in years to come we may look back on as being pivotal.

     

     

    I assume one of the add ons is dependent on Union making the CL, let’s hope they do just that.

    Seems to be remarkably little interest so far in Morelos and Kent considering they’re available on a pre contract.

     

     

    I think both will do a Goldson. Another 5 year contract for both would do nicely.
