Where in the rules does it state that the ball has to change direction?
Ref had no choice but to give the FK.
Whether it’s a sending off is open to interpretation.
Quick squint at rules book and rule 16:90 states if a ref is in any doubt a red card should be given to a Celtic player.

I have no problem that the ref didn’t believe Boyata didn’t get the ball. Or that he determined a red was the right decision.
