Hapoel threat has merit, fabrications don’t make SFA report

790

Hapoel Beer-Shiva delivered Olympiakos first defeat in a Champions League qualifying match in six years. The Greeks have competed in the group stage every season since, holding their own throughout the period, so getting knocked out by Hapoel was the equivalent of losing a Scottish Cup semi-final to a lower-league club.

Hapoel are not better than Olympiakos, not nearly so, but they were good enough to progress when they got the breaks. Anyone who thinks we’ll easy past them into the group stage is being ridiculously complacent.

I’m trying to avoid the nonsense coming out of Ibrox while we have more important things going on, but good grief! Please, please, have them follow through on the nonsense of ditching their legally contracted Puma strips to wear something else.

That stadium seems to be a beacon attracting stupid people doing stupid things.

You’ll note the INDEPENDENT SFA report on crowd at the Scottish Cup final recorded no assaults whatsoever on Newco players. This clearly caused some dissonance at the media organisations who reported utter fabrications after the game.

Never mind, Newco is in the same good hands which were on the tiller when their disastrous EBT plan was enacted, and the players who benefited from EBTs are front and central of Newco media coverage.

If you can’t see how this story ends, you’re not looking.

  1. HH bhoys. First domestic game of the season coming up( although it should have been yesterday and we should of been at home). As things turned out it was quite amusing with the Accies not follow following the script, oh how we laughed.

Now to get on with the real potential winners of the league this year. Today won’t be easy as Hearts will be up there with Aberdeen pushing us all the way. I say potential because we have no right to entitlement. Last year Aberdeen got off to a flyer, only for the wheels to come off midseason due to some dressing room unrest. They are out of Europe so will not have that distraction, and cup games can be a distraction, ask Leicester.

I expect a much tougher challenge from Hearts too.

This year we will win many games, but we will draw some and lose some too, though hopefully not many. I ended up feeling quite sorry for Ronny Deila last year as you could see the pressure was really getting to him. I feel Brendan will handle it much better, and this could be a v special season. Let’s enjoy the ride.

Oh btw, we have nothing to worry about from the team playing out of Ibrox, who will struggle this year to stay up. IMHO!

Beautiful post, brings things into perspective, we all take life for granted at times and moan at times about trivial things..

It makes you appreciate the good things we have in life.

Read your post for a second time there.

    Moved to tears.

One of the best posts ever on this blessed Blog in my time.

    About 9 years I think.

Much more therapeutic than all the infighting that goes on in here sometimes and I know I have been as guilty of it as any of us.

The next time I feel like having a go at someone on here I will stop and think, I wonder what goes on in his life?

Is he just a Celtic supporter blowing off?

Maybe he has a story to tell.

And then I will take a step back.

I had no access to the Blog for a couple of weeks as I was on holiday and before I went I had nasty to do with another Blogger.

A ghuy I know is a big Celtic supporter and a clever bloke.

I flounced and probably insulted the majority of you as I went.

I also posted a crap couple of comments to NEGANON2 in the last day.

Unreserved apologies to everyone for that.

Thanks again Roy for a wonderful story.

A nice confident feeling in regards to the new era for Celtic. Confidence in the new manager and enjoying his measured approach as he quietly goes about his rebuilding programme.

The strip fiasco across the Clyde still makes me smile, but I still can’t believe they weren’t stripped of all their titles. Five stars right enough.

Excellent analysis of how BR has varied tactics in early games on Celtic Underground podcast last week. Ronnie really looks like a one trick pony in hindsight. Hoping the bhoys hit the ground running today. E O’C looks like a future captain. HH

  12. Morning champions….Hearts to form a two nice rows and applaud the bhoys on to the park…..then the bhoys forming a selection of rows to play the Hearts lads off their park…..a hard fought contest with no more injuries please….and three good points….

  13. I’ll prob. Upset a few in here ( what else is new) but I must tip my hat to CFC for the transfair of the new lad from Villa, Sinclair, it took time and patience and we got what we wanted with what it seems to on our terms, a great piece of negotiation should not go without a big well done to the club on how they played they’r hand, well done to all, there! I’v said it.

I have only read the first paragraph but I am astonished at the lack of financial understanding being shown by the people in charge of the club in 2003.

The “we lost £7mill in 2002/03” nugget finds its way to the top of the club’s agenda and this is used to set the tone for the next season when in fact that number is a zombie stat that is being used to reign in the spending horizon on the the pn current manager — MON — and stop any supporter led demands for a growth agenda to build on Seville.

For the record the club had a positive Cashflow of £2mill in 2002/03 so the money was there.

The issue that needed addressed but was forgotten about was the stagnation of the squad and the wasteful wage inflation that was allowed to develop between 2000 and 2005.

BQ was not to blame for this but he was put in place to move things on.

Unfortunately he choose the wrong levers and diminished the club as a result.

Cured the disease but put the patient into intensive care needing a transplant — emergency rights issue — to bring it back to life.

However the mistakes that were made then are chicken feed to the shambles of 2009/11 that allowed the TFOD to repair their finances on the back of our penny pinching “investment strategy”.

And then we had the agent friendly era where we became a selling club and tumble weed was seen in the LL’s upper.

But we had cash in the bank.

    Hopefully things are changing.

But PL and his bonus are still here and we are £30mill down after 2 CL failures.

The one positive is that BR has arrived and we now have a manager with ambition to match our historical status.

  15. BSR @ 11.55

Is that your team of choice or do you have info on the actual team?

For the record I am struggling with SJ and CMcG.

One currently destroys rather than generates space while the other is currently an empty shirt.

Also if the play LG and MD then MD has to lead the line and LG plays as support to the left.

Not sure LG wants to do that even if he has the skill set to make it work.

Hopefully BR takes the time and effort to convince him.

We desperately need a defensive mid with a bit of energy.

SB still has a place in the MF but he is not the main man anymore.

You can not run a club on the bases that you’ll qualify for the CL group sections every year, that’s just plain daft, the £30 million pound was never there to be losses at the club, it was never in our hands, if you live beyond your means, and spend foolishly with £30 million you don’t have, you’ll end up telling people your still the same club, after the Authorities are done with you. IMO.
