Happy with a down and dirty 0-1

Partick Thistle are second bottom of the table, but there is a bigger story going on.

They have failed to win only one home game in over three months – a 0-1 defeat to Hibs, which means they have a better home record than anyone else in the league over that period.  While only three points above Ross County, they have won three of their four games since losing 2-0 at Celtic Park the week before Christmas, losing only 1-0 at Pittodrie. Alan Archibald’s squad has been bolstered in recent weeks by the return of several of the long-term injured, which has changed the entire perspective on which teams should be regarded as vulnerable in the bottom half of the league.

Thistle now believe they will escape relegation and the play-off spot (tip: County, Accies, respectively).  They will know that the champions will provide their sternest test at home since our disputed 0-1 win their earlier this season, but we will earn any points we collect tonight.

We should win, of course, but I’ll be happy with a down and dirty 0-1.

NEW CQN PODCAST OUT TONIGHT WITH THE ORIGINAL HOLY GOALIE, JOHN FALLON

A Celtic State of Mind presents its 31st instalment of insightful discussion around the culture of Celtic Football Club, the city of Glasgow, and fans of the reigning treble-winning Scottish champions.

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Lisbon Lion, John Fallon, at The Penalty Spot in Glasgow.

CQN_GREENOCK_0054

The interview took place as part of A Celtic State of Mind’s first live event – Five-a-sides at The Penalty Spot – and, as such, there is some background noise (including mobile interference – apologies) from the audience.

John – The Original Holy Goalie – discusses pay disputes, bonus rows, cigarettes & alcohol at Seamill, breaking up The Lisbon Lions and The Quality Street Gang, the battle of Montevideo, his volatile relationship with Jock Stein, and he finally tells the full story behind his European Cup winners’ medal.

The CQN Podcast has gone from strength-to-strength over the last few months, and there are many more guests lined up in the months ahead from the world of sport, music, film, art, broadcasting, literature and politics.

Our first two editions of 2018 have attracted huge audiences for the interviews with former Celtic Director Tom Grant them politician and life long Celtic supporter Tommy Sheridan, who likes a rant!

Talking about rants, we hand over to the Original Holy Goalie, when it comes to matters concerning Celtic, he has an opinion on everything. Legend!

  1. I was at the last Firhill game, it was scrappy and tight. Get away from there with 3 points bhoys.

  2. Paul – have told everyone there is a new article!

We need to set our sights higher than that.

  5. our problem this season is not having the front 3 of PR,MD & SS playing together , simples.

also we should be performing to a better level than ‘a down and dirty 0-1’.

My taste is too eclectic to allow me to say — x /y or z is my favourite . Easier to say what I really don’t like – Joan Baez ( a voice that drives me up the wall ), Prog ,Cock Rock and Heavy Metal .. I simply can’t listen to stuff like Yes / Queen / Genesis / Gentle Giant / Rush / Journey / Caravan / Gong / Kansas / ELO ,anything Pink Floyd did after 73 and —- ####### Led Zeppelin .

  7. Expecting a lot more than a down and dirty 1-0 tonight. Refreshed after the break, there should be no excuses for anything other than a comfortable 2 or 3 goal win. Same starting eleven as Saturday if everyone’s fit.

  9. Just received the standard email reply from the local SNP guy re OBAF Act.

    I responded thus:

    “Dear Mr Day,

This is obviously a standard reply to all who query this Act.

I would like your OWN view so,let me ask ONE, simple question:

What crime (s) went unpunished before the Act was introduced because no Laws existed to allow the Police to make an arrest?

I would like to hear YOUR view and not simply a regurgitation of the Party line.

    Your etcc ”

I will give the essence of any reply.

  10. James Forrest is worth a read on Celtic’s transfer business so far, I am a wee bit worried we look for players we cannot afford when it comes to doing deals ,and, end up with loans, hope I’m wrong.

  11. I don’t think that aspiring to better than a scrappy scrappy doo 1-0 win over a struggling league rival with a tiny % of our skill set and budget should be seen as being spoilt, complacent or having an undue sense of entitlement.

Rather I’d see it as a fair and reasonable expectation, a SMART objective as it were.

To posit otherwise for me smacks of expectation management which further underlines our poor season vis-a-vis last year.

Lets hope so. Ps the bookie was in said lane, he originated as far as I am aware from the Hole in the Wall pub which as legend goes was not very nice lol. The only reason I know this is that the Derry man that I am a son of was a runner for him (allegedly!!)

  13. Time for Celtic to ditch single figure sales.

Moussa Dembele is the hottest property we’ve ever owned and ‘the board’ need to put on EPL specs when listening to the so called interest.

No previous Hoop with French international goals at any level, if Celtic now apparently inviting offers by soundbite ? the support should expect them to up the price which was £30M as soon as he started scoring, in a world where of Ross McCormacks and Davy Klaassens its now the era of Pistol Pete, and great EPL transfer prices fiasco.

Celtic play in the Champions League every year supporters have seen the elite that most of the EPL sides never will, if they want take our eponymous heroes make sure we get CL prices, just like our tickets.

  15. Usual lunchtime read and can’t believe that KevJ’s post at 11:18 on the last article didn’t generate a single response. Full of full coherent sentences and paragraphs meant that i didn’t scroll by (as I often do). keep it up please, Kev. I may not share your views but at least when you present them in a more coherent way then it makes for good reading.

I think we will score in both halves tonight.Anyone of a similar mind can double their money at any reputable turf accountant ;-)

  16. Dessybhoy

You have just described Sevco’s transfer strategy not ours.

I must have missed the press release where Celtic announced our targets and what we are prepared to pay for them.

What, if any, deals Celtic have on the go I couldn’t say but one thing is certain you will not read about it anywhere until it is completed.

That’s what gives some of the malcontents an excuse to moan. By not conducting our business via a compliant media they can claim that we are doing nothing at all. It’s hard to prove that negotiations took place without divulging commercially sensitive, and private, information.

Then again as a confirmed board apologizing, back of the bus, Old firmist sheep I would give them the benefit of the doubt wouldn’t I.

Thats not saying you have ever called me that BTW.

  17. At 11:19, Kev Jungle posted a very reasonable contribution.

    From previous article.

I would hope that , provided the game (s) was ( were ) being televised, it would lead to a greater awareness of Res 12 and possible SFA corruption.

My main point, though, was that such a tactic would likely attract a better response than a proposed boycott would.

  23. As for the Celtic Chairman ,at a Burns supper night,I couldn’t give to hoots,if the man is doing a good job at Celtic, that’s good enough for me,I’m not interested in a labour Rag, stirring it , as for politics,,you can keep them for me, Celtic winning lose or draw,is all that matters to me.

    Afternoon All,

As posted on last thread, is anyone else having having to go through the following CAPTCHA hassle when accessing CQN?

    “One more step

Please complete the security check to access http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk

Why do I have to complete a CAPTCHA?

Completing the CAPTCHA proves you are a human and gives you temporary access to the web property.

What can I do to prevent this in the future?

If you are on a personal connection, like at home, you can run an anti-virus scan on your device to make sure it is not infected with malware.

If you are at an office or shared network, you can ask the network administrator to run a scan across the network looking for misconfigured or infected devices.

Another way to prevent getting this page in the future is to use Privacy Pass. Check out the browser extension in the Chrome Store.

  27. Natknow- was chatting with bhoys yesterday , pitch at Swinecastle and CP v Sevco, were poor and we were continually closed down , usually after taking a touch, Firhill will cut up tonight too.

  28. BSR @ 1:23 PM,

“Time for Celtic to ditch single figure sales…”

Well agreed, if any of our players have been competitive at UCL & International level the League they play in is irrelevant. Their transfer should be in double figures.

Of course we have a problem with Dembele, if he has downed tools slightly, we have no choice but to start a bidding process and get the best we can.

Last summer there was talk of a potential £40M player, this Season he’s being no where near that.

Whose miscalculated? I don’t know. One things for sure Dembele wants the best deal for him, he cost £0.5M, his view would be if we make 10 or 20 or 40 Mil what’s it to him? As long as he gets his next stepping stone and a step-up in wages he’s fine.

Shame of course, but there it is…

    Hail Hail
