Happy with a down and dirty 0-1

164

Partick Thistle are second bottom of the table, but there is a bigger story going on.

They have failed to win only one home game in over three months – a 0-1 defeat to Hibs, which means they have a better home record than anyone else in the league over that period.  While only three points above Ross County, they have won three of their four games since losing 2-0 at Celtic Park the week before Christmas, losing only 1-0 at Pittodrie. Alan Archibald’s squad has been bolstered in recent weeks by the return of several of the long-term injured, which has changed the entire perspective on which teams should be regarded as vulnerable in the bottom half of the league.

Thistle now believe they will escape relegation and the play-off spot (tip: County, Accies, respectively).  They will know that the champions will provide their sternest test at home since our disputed 0-1 win their earlier this season, but we will earn any points we collect tonight.

We should win, of course, but I’ll be happy with a down and dirty 0-1.

SOT would be interested to hear your views on Ray Davies – if you have any!! In my view one of the finest songsmiths this country has produced. h H Hebcelt

I saw/heard Ray perform at the Hop Farm Festival a number of years ago. Beautiful sunny evening as he came onto the stage and he powered through a load of great songs. Then, just as the sun set burst behind the oast houses and as the crowd urged him on, he picked up his acoustic guitar and started playing the opening chords to the classic…….”Lola” – the one about the tranny. Much to everyone’s disappointment he didn’t bother with Waterloo Sunset. Still a great performance – one of the best songwriters we’re ever seen.

Will we be strengthening in this transfer window?

If we sell Moussa, we will have to replace him with similar just to stand still. I’m not too concerned but neither am I confident.

We need CL players but we can’t pay CL prices for them so a bit of luck, excellent contacts and inspired scouting is required. Here’s hoping.

As for tonight, we are likely to be playing a dogged team on a swamp of a pitch which will be a great leveller. Dubai will seem a long way away. I’d take a 0-1 but would just like to see that we have thrown off the lethargy we played with before the break.

  4. Will BR play Dembele tonight? Its a gamble, he might get injured but if he does play and scores a couple it gets him headlines.

    Chairbhoy,

    Thanks for the re-post.

The debate yesterday actually made the point I was trying to make in the post.

    ==================

I read the point you were trying to make with extreme interest as my first reaction on reading it was “this guy gets it, I’ll need to respond” and here I am.

    This bit is very apt.

” As insight develops the penny drops that the cheating is really pointless and ultimately causes huge personal pain and cost to everyone involved, at Sevco and elsewhere. I forgive them and leave them with the burden. I am free of the corrosive effects of the toxin.

    I don’t carry it.

If that is contrary to a divisive, greedy, dishonest mantra then perhaps there is a more profound message in Resolution 12 than was initially anticipated.

In effect ,in the absence of clarity from the Plc Board I move away from a toxic, harmful activity and I experience much more of the beauty that life has to offer. What other Celtic Supporters decide to do is their own business, wherever we are ‘on the one road’ is valid.”

    ———-

The first part about Sevco learning that cheating doesn’t pay comes under “it is the bitter potion which heals the sick self” and I’ve always watched what has happened there from that perspective. I posted the extract on Pain from The Prophet on the RTC blog ages ago.

In respect of the absence of clarity from Celtic PLC, having waited this long to see words turned into action I am happy to wait a bit longer for the clarity of action to emerge, but if it doesn’t I’ll write a book.

That ” there is a much more profound message behind Res12″, is what has kept me going and would enhance a book.

    On Waking Up

Spirituality means waking up. Most people, even though they don’t know it, are asleep. They’re born asleep, they live asleep, they marry in their sleep, they breed children in their sleep, they die in their sleep without ever waking up.

They never understand the loveliness and the beauty of this thing that we call human existence.

You know, all mystics – Catholic, Christian, non Christian, no matter what their theology, no matter what their religion – are unanimous on one thing: that all is well, all is well. Though everything is a mess, all is well. Strange paradox, to be sure. But, tragically, most people never get to see that all is well because they are asleep. They are having a nightmare.

Last year on Spanish Television I heard a story about this gentleman who knocks on his son’s door. “Jaime,” he says, “wake up!” Jaime answers “I don’t want to get up Papa.” The father shouts “Get up”, you have to go to school.” Jaime says, “I don’t want to go to school .” “Why not?” asks the father. “Three reasons” says Jaime. “First, because it’s so dull; second, the kids tease me; and third, I hate school.

And the father says, “Well, I am going to give you three reasons why you must go to school.

First, because it is your duty; second because you are forty five years old, and third, because you are the headmaster. “Wake up! You’ve grown up. You’re too big to be asleep. Wake up! Stop playing with your toys.”

Most people tell you they want to get out of kindergarten, but don’t believe them. Don’t believe them! All they want you to do is to mend their broken toys. “Give me back my wife. Give me back my job. Give me back my money. Give me back my reputation, my success.”

This is what they want; they want their toys replaced. That’s all. Even the best psychologist will tell you that, that people don’t really want to be cured. What they want is relief; a cure is painful.

Waking up is unpleasant you know. You are nice and comfortable in bed. Its irritating to be woken up.

That’s the reason the wise guru will not attempt to wake people up. I hope I’m going to be wise here and make no attempt whatsoever to wake you up if you are asleep. It is really none of my business, even though I say to you at times “Wake Up!”

My business is to do my thing, to dance my dance. If you profit from it, fine; if you do not too bad! As the Arabs say,

“The nature of rain is the same, but it makes thorns grow in the marshes and flowers in the gardens.”

    ——————-

I occasionally like to sing my song and dance my dance. :)

    Thanks again.
