Hard work, fans and Celtic with focus

I love Paris, the food, the sights, the people, the atmosphere of the place.  So it came as a surprise when I watched Messi and Neymar booed by their own PSG fans after their elimination from the Champions League.  The greatest of all time and a talented show pony, both the toast of the city recently, as persona non grata.  How can it be?

The short version of events is that PSG were eliminated because neither did enough running around against Real Madrid to prevent their elimination.  This is a bit unfair.  A shark is a shark.  If you swim with one, you should know how it will behave.

When it comes to energy, Messi, for all his exalted status, is more Charlie Nicholas than Frank McGarvey.  His Brazilian protégée, Neymar, was always going to behave like his master.  Maybe Messi’s game would be hampered, if he put in the hard miles, I doubt he ever found out.

I also doubt Leo has seen the best of Paris: the Tower, Montmartre, Sacre Coeur.  No matter how long he stays, he will remain an unknown recluse, inevitably leaving behind fans who wonder what they were initially thinking.  Still, booing your own after a defeat?  It’s not a good look.   A PSG decline, without the prize they really want, seems inevitable.

It hurt when Bodo/Glimt taught us a lesson home and away last month.  Having already eliminated AZ Alkmaar from one European competition this season, we would feel hopeful of doing so again, if we faced them in the Conference League, instead of Bogo/Glimt.

There are compensations, primarily our hunt for the league title.  Instead of journeys to Netherlands, all the focus at Lennoxtown this week is on facing Ross County at Celtic Park on Saturday.  It has been a while since we were this confident.

  1. Beautiful goal by full back. North Pole team up 4-3.

They were a Regional team in the 80’s and in the second division up until recently.

  2. So nothing still about the yawning brexiteers, the soothing racism, the galloway racism with its funded Russian hawhaw-isms.

Agent aedo and the penn state narratives aplenty on a Celtic blog.the level of hunnery getting posted,we had the ibroxnoise flushed on here the other night.

Many people are influenced by many other people in many walks of life. Would you accept that you are influenced by Sceptical Citizen,Kev J and one or two others?

    ••••••••

There are a few who think like you do.

Are they all the same person?

    I don’t know that’s why I ask?

Sceptical Citizen is a bit controversial, which can be needed at times in different ways.

    Kev J?

I haven’t saw that name on a post for a long time, wherever Kev J is I hope he is well?

Didn’t someone post the other day that Kev J had resigned from CQN, and not red carded as I’ve noticed some mentions of.

Do you have a phobia about, Sceptical Citizen, or Kev J?

What was the final score in the huns game?

    Have the huns rioted yet?

    Or does that happen later?

Do you think that the huns have been ‘gifted’ some of the missing £5 BILLION?

  4. Alkmaar fans stop game by tossing plastic cups. Their team is losing, so that is world class stupidity.

You really are the most negative chap.

Maybe the wee team from Lapland are better than the Scandinavian team who beat rangers 4-2 earlier in their European campaign ?

Maybe the Dutch team we beat and Bodo perhaps beat who beat Ajax a few weeks ago are better than the likes of red star who are not even top of their league and who won a group as soft as rangers was.

Maybe different teams from different countries prioritise the lower level euro competitions.

Maybe we are more focused on domestic success this year.

Maybe our incredible unbeaten domestic form is something we might want to feel good about for now.

    Just a few thoughts.

  6. Happy birthday to Celtic Legend Frank McGarvey 🎂🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏🍀💚

  7. Having a bigger squad and better individual players will win us the majority of domestic games. In Europe you normally need to be the better all-round team to make any significant progress. We still have a way to go to be in that shape.

“Hopefully, we win the league and get to see this model in reality”

Even on a CQN bad day, I don`t suppose many would disagree with that !

Anyone think Charles Cook of Ross County would be worth a punt in the next window.

    Yup!

    Hungbo as well. 👍

`There are a few who think like you do.

Are they all the same person?`

Why do you mention `same person`

`Do you have a phobia about, Sceptical Citizen, or Kev J?

    What evidence warrants that question?

I simply asked if they influenced you as your posting style is very similar.

  11. Fact is they have now to play another two Thursday games followed by Sunday matches. For instance the first game of the last eight is April 7, we play at home to St Johnstone on the 9th, already sold out, and that could give us an advantage before the break. Second leg likewise for the Scottish Cup semi-final on April 17, could be after an away day in Europe on Aril 14. First up Ross County, also sold out, but once again Radio 5s live game on Saturday 3pm, so something to look forward to there. And of course there is always that Scottish co-efficient……so not all bad.

  12. Well, I am happy the Huns lost and can see some benefit in their having progressed so not an altogether horrible outcome..

    Cheerio for now.

I think I’m more realistic than negative. And by the way, I don’t cast personal aspersions at you when I disagree with any of your posts. Face the facts – a 12 year old team has a far better European co-efficient than we have. They are in the quarter finals of the Europa League. We, on the other hand, own the record for the most goals conceded in consecutive Europa League Groups, an astounding and humiliating 34 goals. We have just been thrashed, home and away, by a team north of the Arctic Circle with an average gate of 3,500, whose season hasn’t even started. We haven’t won a knockout Euro tie after Christmas in 18 years. Fortress Celtic Park is long forgotten,

( although the lights are nice ).

All of these are in the past. For the future, we hope to qualify directly for the Group Stage of Europe’s elite competition, having just been cannon fodder for a wee team in Europe’s version of the Petrovac Cup, 2 levels below the Champions League. So, if we qualify, we obviously better change some things pretty damn quick. Otherwise, we face 6 thrashings in a row, or possibly 10, if UEFA change the format to increase the money available to teams. Ignore our immediate history, and we are consigned to repeat it. That’s being realistic, not negative.

  14. i hope we are prepared for a different game on 3rd april . All this media tripe regards Hatati is a prelude to the honest mistakes by the barrowload which will be visited on us , the seeds are being sown mark my words . why no action against jack the other week for his over the ball tackle , or lundstrum v hibs and many other occasions that gets swept under the carpet , due to our own club accepting the cheating of the mibs and the stinking bigotry of the Scottish press . The main actor will already know he is getting the game he will be ready .

  15. How was my day? It was spent with BRRB and Leggy (from the other channel)…thanks lads….I enjoyed it ;-))

    H.H.

Yeah, I forgot his name but yes worth the risk imo…

    Ps, thanks for replying. 👍

  17. Why are some bothered about Sevco ,mind you when you see the way Hart and Starfelt play at the back I’m beginning to think about Next Months game against them👀👀👀

  18. West Ham draw level with perennial Europa League winners Seville. 1-1 on aggregate.

  19. So that’s the Huns through to the last 8.Whilst any victory they have is excruciatingly annoying, the positives for us are clear.Looking at their schedule in April it really could take it out on their legs and Hopefully this could ultimately lead to their downfall.

Euro game ( hopefully at home on forst leg) then they have an away game v St Mirren.Following week euro game ( hopefully away) and then face us at Hamden 3 days later.

We meanwhile are playing a game a week and having plenty of rest.

It’s down to our endeavours and everything is in our hands but their extra games could give us the edge.

For the record let’s hope they get hammered in the QF!!

  20. What we are seeing at Newcastle is proof that Eddie Howe is a good organiser – a good motivator….ergo a good manager.

Man Utd should take note – this is exactly what it needs – forget about all the ‘sexy’ names and get Howe at the end of the season.

What Howe could have done for us is now of no consequence – he couldn’t have delivered any more to date than Ange…..I post as I listen to “It’s a grand old team” being belted out over the Everton p.a..

  21. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Evening all.

Haven’t read back yet but will before the night is out.

Probably shouldn’t have made that comment earlier about thinking about Celtic and not work ….

Work got its revenge this afternoon and evening !

What a day ! Happily now finished.

I’ve recorded Alkmaar Vs Bodo/Glimt, avoided updates and am now looking forward to sitting back to watch the game.

I’ve got a good feeling about this one

Bodo/Glimt are just a poxy little mob from the North Pole with oversized Santa’s helpers from 1 to 11.

They’ve absolutely no business still being in the latter stages of European football.

Embarrassing, EMBARRASSING, that this lot beat us.

We should hang our heads in shame.

As for tonight, I’ll say it again.

I’ve got a good feeling about this one.

Fully expect Alkmaar to purr majestically, springing into action like a powerful, sinewy, Dutch panther …

.. and wipe the floor with this two-bob outfit.

    Prediction 6-0.
