‘HARD WORK IS PAYING OFF,’ BOSS HAILS ENGELS

ARNE ENGELS powered his way through an athletic and energetic performance to play a major role in the 2-0 win over Dundee United at Parkhead last night.

The tireless Belgian international midfielder had fans checking there was really only one Arne Engels on the pitch as he appeared all over the place with the bewildered Tannadice opponents failing to nail down Celtic’s record £11million recruit.

He was instrumental in dismantling a defence that had resisted the Hoops on Tayside last month, but Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate hit the barrier-breaking goals to ease the team to a 16-point lead in the Premiership.

OUT ON HIS OWN…Arne Engels put in a Man-of-the-Match performance against Dundee United.

Twenty-one-year-old Engels is answering all the impatient critics who were ludicrously quick to question his valuation after his switch from Bundesliga club Augsburg on deadline day.

Engels produced a Man of the Match show on a chilly evening under the lights in the east end of Glasgow before he made way in the 80th minute for Paulo Bernardo.

Brendan Rodgers was quick to praise the immense contribution of the gifted playmaker and, speaking to Celtic TV, said: “Arne’s working very hard and now he’s in the flow of how we work and how we play.

“His hard work is paying off and I’m delighted for him.”

Engels will go into action again in the 12.30pm kick-off against Ross County in Dingwall on Saturday as the champions continue their relentless pursuit of their fourth successive title.
