HARPER DEAL SETBACK

CELTIC have missed out on target Rekeem Harper with the teenage midfielder agreeing a three-year deal with West Brom today.

Neil Lennon had high hopes of adding the player to his summer signings and the highly-rated 19-year-old had already visited Parkhead as a guest of the club for the last league game of the season against Hearts in May.

Harper, who made 23 appearances for the Championship outfit in the last campaign, was poised to quit at the end of his contract.

However, crunch talks with new boss Slaven Bilic persuaded him to stay in the Midlands.

Technical Director Luke Dowling expressed his delight with the outcome to the official club website and has high hopes for Harper’s future at the Baggies.

The statement read: “We are pleased Rekeem has committed his future to the club having been with us from such a young age. Rekeem is progressing as a player and we are confident that if he continues to work hard he will play a prominent role in the first team over the coming years.”

Harper made his West Brom debut in the opening game of the 2017/18 season, becoming just the second player born in this century to feature in the Premier League.
