You are right that one of the comments made by Hartson was out of order and he has held his hands up for that now and admitted he was wrong.
That was an exceptional comment from Hartson. I generally find him to be honest and balanced in what he says. That comment was not typical of him or his finest moment but it takes a big man to say publicly that they got it wrong.
