Hartson late mea cupla

827

I’m sure Ronny Deila is delighted to have the backing of John Harton, now he doesn’t need it.  John’s attachment to the club is not in doubt, nor should a new manager want unquestioning support from anyone, but some clubs reach a point when they become unmanageable.  Influential voices collaborate with perma-upset media and fans to expose shoots of recovery to a winter frost.

The mea culpa, when it arrives, is often too late.

Save us from the click bait that is suggesting Craig Gordon is a ‘target’ for some or other English club.  Derk Boerrigter is interesting Real Madrid, honest, they’ve been watching him with the Development Squad.

I’ve been waiting for weeks on someone to ask the question: if a club accepts money on the condition that the lender has the right to appoint two directors, in the event the club removes those directors, do you reckon that would be a breach of the terms of the loan?

I’d be extremely worried if a well-intentioned, but nonetheless, baying mob chased away the last independent director of my club.  Many Germans celebrated the Armistice, thinking a conclusion to hostilities had been agreed.  Months later they learned the terms left them bereft of land, defensive capabilities, capital equipment, authority and self-respect.  What seemed like an end to the trauma only set in motion far greater horrors.

Our good friends at Magners have offered two premium seat tickets for tomorrow’s game at Celtic Park.  To win, email me the name of the team we’re playing at celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 5pm tonight.  If you would like to help build a school kitchen for 909 hungry kids for Mary’s Meals in Malawi while entering the competition, you can donate £1 here.  Thank you.

And a bit”Tasty”going by the pic.

  2. If we keep up this nonsense about ex-players not being allowed to criticize the present set-up ie RD we will eventually alienate all our heroes.

I always liked the cut of RD’s jib and how he spoke and how he looked at one straight in the eye (says a lot about a person) and the intensity and pain he showed when we stumbled through the early part of the season.

The greatest achievement of RD so far is not how many potential cups he will win but imo it’s the way Celtic are playing football. It is like a breath of fresh air – a throw-back to some of the great Celtic teams. Of course if we keep playing this way we are also bound to win trophies.

“Has anyone ever heard an ex-Rangers player, even during this farce to end all farces, be as bitingly critical to their own as some of the above pundits?”

I would be interested to know how many – employees – of Celtic are on Zero hour contracts, as well as less than the living wage.

    Just out of curiosity.

I don’t think the Celtic board would condone, nor embrace, exploitation as a virtue in keeping with the ethos of the club.

Alfie Alfie alfie, cam doon son, it was my observation that many many, when came in here called you a HUN, I notce that not to many do now, so my point being that they took a knee jerk reaction to your posts, as some often do, as you have done with mine, now you ask me what a Hun is! A hun is a DOB , bluenose, knuckle dragger, Humphy bassa, ugly bassa, inbred person, anti all Catholic and glasgow celtic, a royalist, a mason, many many more, but you asked, so there happy ?

Please accept my apologies – I did take it the wrong way and for that I am sorry – thank you for your point in my favour – to be honest it is few and far between on here, although not universally – Cheers

Although it has been attributed to many people, at least one source (admittedly a shameful one) claims that it was John Philpot Curran who said that the ‘price of freedom is eternal vigilance’ .

An 18th century Irish (from Cork) protestant judge and policitican who favoured irish nationalism, and seem to be fair minded (for his time) … For those of you who are interested in Irish history, he is an interesting character.

The Dave King stuff today put me in mind of that quote … rather than face up to their past, most of them will unquestionably follow anyone who comes along and promises them more moonbeams.

It does remind me, however, that we have to be careful about not scrutinizing what our own leaders are doing. Whether you like or agree with them or not, people like Neganon and KevJungle perform an important function by forcing us all to keep questioning what is being done in our name.

Did any of the Ibrox ex players and/or pundits EVER take issue with Craig Whyte and Charles Green in the months following their appointed – NO – they toed the party-line and uttered words like ” let’s see what he does for Rangers”.

On the other hand, we had, after the setbacks in July and August in Europe – a queue of ex Celts lining up to to ‘put the boot in’

No we don’t want lackeys, like Derek Johnstone – but we should expect some degree of measured commentary – NOT headline for headlines sake tripe.

rousing speech and heartfelt i do not doubt my friend, alas only highlights how much todays politicians are impotent! Eunuchs!

but betrayal comes easy to them.

I can just see the screens of traders in the city turning red from the capital flight over the words of an actor! Even tho it is a popular and a widely held view.

Conformity to capital markets must be obeyed at all times, regardless of who we democratically elect! That is why they are a threat to democracy(‘markets’) imo.

It says more about our democracy the time etc given to this when this is the sort of thing our politicians should howling daily about,am sure some do,alas we do not see dissent in a constructive way on our TV now. When i was younger you had-This Week.World in Action,Pilger and a whole host of critical programmes now we get ‘Benefits St and a whole host of right wing skankery which sows division among people who have nothing as well as augmenting the have/have not,me myself and individualism of Thatcher.

It is sad but it only shows how poor the left is,and it is desperate.

You seem to have the stats ready to hand, suspiciously so,IMO.

I think it is tremendous that more young people than before are able to attend University than was the case in the past.

    4% then,and 40% now?

    Magic.

    Two wee questions,though.

Some of these universities didnt have that status back in the 4% days. Is that taken into account?

How many of those 40% actually benefit from university education, rather than vocational training? We train managers-those who are fortunate to qualify, many fall by the wayside-to manage a workforce which isn’t there.

    Good shout.

The increase in university placements was a sham, nearly as bad as Thatcher’s 35 separate manipulation of the unemployment figures.

We are putting young kids into education way beyond their capabilities. Putting them in debt. Leaving them jobless and with no experience in the workplace.

But your headline 40% hits the target. Cos that’s all politicians are interested in nowadays.

Targets. Meaningless priorities in a country crying out for meaningful direction.

The more I read yer rubbish, the less I think yer a Labour man. Though when I think about the current lot,you could well be.

  14. mike in toronto,

You make a very valid point but it is like those who feel some of us are overcritical of the likes of Pat Bonnar and John Hartson. Imo, people often have an agenda, whether it is being simply anti-Board/PL or wanting to have a media career in Scotland. Balanced criticism goes out the window far too often.

  23. In 2020 when we are heading towards 10 in a row, the Rangers fans (who are left) will be vehemently suggesting that the only reason Celtic have done ‘it’ is because the real Rangers did not exist. The Celtic fans, including all the ones on here who say they don’t exist today, may then be changing their tune? Who knows and who cares

  24. mike in toronto on

    parkheadcumsalford….

the only thing that irks me is people who tell me that they dont have an agenda. Everyone has an agenda… and those who say that they aren’t political are, in fact, the most political, even if unwittingly.

I know (as I have been told) that I can be guilty of taking myself too seriously sometimes, my politics way too seriously most of the time, and my football way, way too seriously all of the time! And it is probably true!

but CQN is one of those places where I get to chat about something I love with a good bunch of guys… and, the great thing about a blog is, if I think someone is being a bellend, I can simply ignore them, and chat with someone else.

    so, what’s not to like?

ps… however, as I am on different time from most of you guys, I sometimes pop on and off CQN, and cant always read back and reply, so if I dont always reply to someone right away (or even at all), that doesnt necessarily mean that I think that person is a hun, troll or bellend …. but sometimes it does (in which case, it is just a happy coincidence!) …. :)
