You’ve got to love John Hartson, a subscriber to the ‘All we need is three new players’ belief structure. This is a common sort of anti-analysis which crops up regularly in place of any actual thought.
There are three outfield areas of a team, defence, midfield and attack, and if you can only improve each area, you’ll have a better team. Go figure. Hartson told us we need “a central defender; a creative midfield player and a striker”. It’s as though the reality hasn’t occurred that any team in the world wouldn’t improve with the addition of a better player in each area of the field.
Yes, we need a central defender, but we need a right back too. We need a striker, but, I could argue two strikers would be handy. I’ve no idea how Brendan Rodgers is planning to play tactically so we might need a midfielder. Or two.
Pretty much every team in Europe will be having the same conversation right now. John could usefully reflect that it’s not actual headcount we need, we have the numbers, it’s players able to improve the team we need. That’s the magic ingredient everyone in the game hopes for.
Lincoln Red Imps captain, Roy Chipolina, is well within his rights to talk up their chances of knocking Celtic out of the Champions League. They hold the lead and it will take three goals to settle nerves among the home support tomorrow. It could be a tense occasion…….

Well if the thunder is half as good in Paradise as it is down here in old D&G it will be something special, and me with manflu, so anyone sitting next to me watch out for the sneezes and bring some tissues in case I run out
DAVIDOPOULOS
A pretendy pitch aye, not that that excuses our poor poor performance. It’s a bit like a red ash pitch which we used to play on which had a massive stank right in the middle of it surrounded by broken glass:
Ah the glory days:))
Efe¡!! No effing way!!!! Nononononononoooooo!
masty
Perhaps it’s all perception. I thought we toiled on artificial pitches against:
Kilmarnock
Hamilton
East Kilbride
Perhaps they were just rubbish performances :)
Concentrate lads.
A win tonight.
4.45 am start for me.
Can`t wait.
Roar them on , lads.

It’s at least better than the sandpaper-like astroturf I had to play on as a kid. The scars never leave you. Thankfully my scars are concealed by a moldmaster imprint.

It’s was his first competitive game buddy, he’ll come good I have absolutely no doubt on that, the alternative is we do what sevco are doing 9 panic buys in three/ four weeks, we’ll see the standings come xmas
___________
To be fair, Sevco needed numbers. Their first team squad is about 25 right now.
Barton was definitely some desperation though. “Marquee” signing to sell season books.
Reading back through some of the comments regarding our new managers failure to sign players I find it shocking that some on here are already criticising him. He has inherited a huge squad and surely should be allowed the time to decide with his team who should stay and who should be moved on. Rome wasn’t built in a day but some on here want us to become world beaters overnight. Faithful through and through? yea right…..

” Stank ”
Haven`t heard that word in years.
Magic.

Agree entirely about Living Wage and Zero Hours Contracts.
But, you still don’t have sight of Board, or PL’s contracts, so it is all opinion – which, of course, you are perfectly entitled to hold.
BTW, there is a footy match on tonight, I will be there, but I suspect you will not? Unfortunate.

I’d also like to cite Molde in the artificial pitch/bad performance list. But that performance was mostly Kris Commons’s fault 0:¬)

At what stage do you get to the point where you say whats the worst that could happen if you play, for example, O’Connell, in a match like last Wednesdays?
Maybe he’d get booked early, look edgy, make everybody else nervous, misjudge the bounce of a ball…wait a minute…

To set your mind at rest,GEORDIE MUNRO is alive and well, just not available to the blog at the moment
I’m just wondering if the anti board posters in here are on zero hour contracts with Level 5, they’r in here every day, and all day, peddling Thur James Traynor pish every day, but doing a sterling job for the company, but that’s just my opinion :)
MALORBHOY
Whereabouts in D&G are you ?
MACJAY1 FOR NEIL LENNON
The sound of aluminium studs on the stank never leaves ye:)
Trad88
We may have passed that point, but trying at this minute to sign a CB bodes not well, not just for Efe.
My opinion is that if O’Connell was any good he’d surely have dislodged Efe before Gibraltar
David
Agreed, some say potatoes some say tomatoes, it’s all about opinions mo chara,
O’Connell didn’t pull up any trees when he was on loan at Oldham
Masty you have a message.
Bournes
Brendan said yesterday he’s on it, o Connells passing leaves a lot to be desired, agreed on him nudging efe out, that would have happened before now

Aluminium studs ?
A luxury .

Instantly transported to the ash pitches of Victoria Park or the Plant`n or sundry other Glasgow beauty spots.
I well remember graduating to the lush surroundings of the 50 pitches where one was liable to be sent off for an early tap.
Such were the ” facilities .”

Not many trees left to. Pull up out Oldham way. Bloody windy in that neck of the, erm, part of the world!
I feel our performance last week against the Imps was not as bad as the result suggests we had a good goal disallowed we hit the woodwork twice and there keeper had 3 great saves. On the night the Imps got all the luck on another night we would have won that game comfortabely the fact we didnt makes tonights game interesting. However I can see no reason that we shouldnt score a fair few tonight the Imps are no more than a decent team and im sure will find the big grass pitch at Parkhead a test of there stamina. H.H.H.
I think BR played efe in the 1st game thinking he will be in the shop window and it’s only red imps, surely he can’t screw up against these!
A mistake he won’t make again.
new article posted.
If we are to improve in the mid to long term, we have to buy better than what we already have, even the prospects have to be first teamers, its what we’ve been tearing our hair out about for years now.
So if we’re serious we need to be a bit more patient than jumping up and down 20 days into the two month transfer window. We’re stuck between the short term need for getting in new players who will help get us through the qualifiers and the longer term needs of rebuilding a squad that will do the business for years to come. its simply not possible to reconcile the two within the first 20 days of the window, well maybe not impossible but extremely difficult and unreasonable to demand it.
I hope we don’t end up buying for players for the sake of it again, we’d be in exactly the same position this time next year
