Hartson’s anti-analysis

563

You’ve got to love John Hartson, a subscriber to the ‘All we need is three new players’ belief structure.  This is a common sort of anti-analysis which crops up regularly in place of any actual thought.

There are three outfield areas of a team, defence, midfield and attack, and if you can only improve each area, you’ll have a better team.  Go figure.  Hartson told us we need “a central defender; a creative midfield player and a striker”.  It’s as though the reality hasn’t occurred that any team in the world wouldn’t improve with the addition of a better player in each area of the field.

Yes, we need a central defender, but we need a right back too.  We need a striker, but, I could argue two strikers would be handy.  I’ve no idea how Brendan Rodgers is planning to play tactically so we might need a midfielder.  Or two.

Pretty much every team in Europe will be having the same conversation right now.  John could usefully reflect that it’s not actual headcount we need, we have the numbers, it’s players able to improve the team we need.  That’s the magic ingredient everyone in the game hopes for.

Lincoln Red Imps captain, Roy Chipolina, is well within his rights to talk up their chances of knocking Celtic out of the Champions League.  They hold the lead and it will take three goals to settle nerves among the home support tomorrow.  It could be a tense occasion…….

  1. Tony Watt`s goal against Barcelona was a simple, well taken goal on an extraordinary evening. That apart, I cannot recall performances which justify the present praise he is receiving.

We should beat the imps. …but given the disparity in the size of both clubs, tomorrow’s second leg should have been a formality, a game where we could give debuts to a couple of youth team players. …Instead we have to score 3 goals to put the tie safe, we may well score 3 goals in the first 10 minutes. ..but then again maybe not

    Thanks for the tips Sat.

Did you back Imp? How was the going> What was the field like ;-)

If Tony Watt signs for Hearts ,I believe that he will score as many goals next season as the boy wonder Dembele.

TT, what is that all about? Why disparage a young man feted by many other clubs by calling him names before he has even had a chance to prove his worth.

Tony had his chance and blew it.

Get behind your team for goodness sake.

    Sin City Bhoy @ 7.45…

That is my concern. I think Warburton is possibly a good man manager and will get the max from his players.

However, it all comes down to how we perform and our mentality. Strong characters are what we need along with good team spirit. I saw criticism of their defence but I have also seen the same criticism of our own defence.

I just don’t want them anywhere near us in the league come mid-season…..After years of jelly and ice cream, laughing at their fat manager and stupid fans, I don’t want it all to end in tears…

Od course we should beat the Imps. Why? Because we are a much better side.

Oglach said, effectively, that we are not as good as the Imps. Growing a tad irritated by the exaggerated accounts of our current standard, I responded in a way that I hoped would highlight this.

I think I need a break from some of the nonsense on CQN but I keep reading because of the occasional ,excellent posts from a diminishing group.

My point is a slight as those posters on here who build up every signing as a world beater before they have seen enough of him to make areasonable assessment.

It is not meant as a slight on the boy.

But I do believe from the limited footage that I have seen of him ,that he is a raw young lad ,and not the world beater that he is being portrayed as.

    He is another project.

    As for Watt .

You are correct ,he blew it.

But the boy will score goals in the SPFL IMHO.

I will be at Parkhead tomorrow shouting th boy wonder on.

    Have no doubt about that.

  14. Re. Tony Watt, he didn’t score many in SPL before, playing for the team that creates a lot more chances than others. He didn’t score many in Belgium or The Championship down south. Don’t see him scoring that many for Hearts, if he signs, don’t see him getting many games and will be back at Charlton in January looking for his next loan move. A waster.

  15. Over a season Sevco shouldn’t be a problem.

    One off games, different story.

Our team is used to finishing between 80 and 90 points, that will be too much for the tributes imo.

Our ambitions however should be trying to qualify for CL and being out of sight.

  16. Tony Watt scored 10 goals in 54 games in the Championship.

Moussa Dembelle scored 15 in 56….

Best not to let the facts get in the way of a Black Cloud pronouncement eh

  17. TT,

I am glad to hear that although never doubted it.

Rather than ‘boy wonder’ let’s alleviate the pressure a bit from the boy and just call him something like ‘the young man that Zizu rates very highly’.

    Nuff for me :)

  18. Stairheedrammy on

Rudi, a wee bit unfair on big Hartson. Public speaking means tailoring the content to your audience and I don’t think the setting would lead him to think Celtic would be the required topic.

Ibrox isn’t fit for purpose and I suppose the asset coming up for sale at liquidation made a few people speculate what you could do with the site.

I am sure one of our board members is well aware of the land deals that could take shape in and around govan/ Barrhead.

I never respond to your ramblings – this will be my first and last.

If you are able to read our Annual Accounts – please do so – if you can’t ask someone who can, to explain them to you.

There you will see that all revenue that comes in, is spent on the running of the club – we DON’T accumulate large surpluses – we DO pay our administration staff – we DO pay for the upkeep and upgrade our training centre and stadium – we DO pay somewhere in the region £30/£40 million/year in football wages and bonuses – we DO pay for our bank facility – we DO pay our lawful taxes – we DO pay for policing and security – and we DO pay transfer fees for players who join us – TWENTY-THREE in number during Ronny’s reign.

    TIP: LOOK AT THE ACCOUNTS

No doubt you will, as usual, bore us with conspiracy theories implicating DD, PL , Board and Chartered Accountants/Auditors and tell us ‘reliable’ gossip of money being ‘spirited away’

It will all be tosh, used to back up your contorted judgement of those who run our club in an honest and professional manner.

  25. See this Ibrox Stadium not safe accusation. Surely someone can clear this up ? Someone in so called authority? I mean if peoples lives are at stake why arent serious questions being asked in the right direction?
