Has this been our most successful transfer window ever?

288

It is not like Celtic to have no one to parade on deadline day, just as it is not like Celtic to have us glowing with contentment at the business they did early in the window.  Reo Hatate (24), Daizen Maeda (24) and Yosuke Ideguchi (25) arrived from Japan, where today Daizen made a 68th minute appearance from the substitutes bench in a World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia.

Matt O’Riley (21) arrived from MK Dons, in the third tier of English football.  Matt has played one year of first team football, clearly a productive one.  His early Celtic performances reinforce the encouraging signs we heard from EFL watchers.  Johnny Kenny (18) arrived from Sligo Rovers as a development prospect.

Maeda scored within minutes of his debut, then watched Hatate steal the show and deservedly grab the Man of the Match award.  Ideguchi came on as a late sub against Hibs before being brutally injured at Alloa.  The early form of all three is encouraging, especially as they cope with living on a new continent, among new coaches and teammates.

We retained all first-choice players, with some on the fringes going out on loan.  The major disappointment was that none of our well-paid bench sitters left.  Has this been our most successful transfer window ever?  Stay tuned to find out.

All the noise in town yesterday came from across the city, where Newco acquired a midfielder who has made seven 90-minute league appearances since August 2017 (only one since going to Italy in 2019).   A friend suggested this was a classic Hail Mary move, although I’m sure that is not how they look at it at Ibrox.  Not all intercessions happen.

Later this month we face Raith Rovers in a Scottish Cup tie.  As things stand, they will field David Goodwillie, whom they signed last night.  Goodwillie was found to have raped a woman at a civil trial in 2017.  Fair play to Rovers fans for their overwhelming opposition to the signing.  They have a fight on their hands for the character of their club.

The Japan – Saudi Arabia game is due to finish around 12:10 UK time.  Hopefully by the time you finish reading this Daizen is in a taxi on his way to the airport.  There will be a good hour in his legs tomorrow night.

  1. Surely maeda will be first class on a stretchy out seat ?…I’d imagine he’d get a decent kip….subs bench I’d think

  2. If he is on a gulfstream he will get here comfortably, otherwise mid afternoon arrival times into heathrow if he is coming through there. We are 9 hours behind Tokyo time.

  3. I think the staunch loyal ulsterised basterdised scots equivalent of a “hail mary” is a “hullo bullie”

  4. Maeda back in the squad and Callum training. Yes indeed.

Ramsey already managing expectations that he’ll need ‘time’ and won’t play tomorrow.

Transfer window had a positive feel about it and over 2 stretches we are now at least aligning the signings with the type of play Ange wants.

From it, and early doors, I think we’ll still carry ‘misfits’ possibly in Shaw and Uroghide (sp) and I think Scales will struggle with the athletic side of our game.

Looking forward to what we achieve in the summer as it looks like Ange’s wee black book ran empty when we went for Matt O’Riley. Let’s hope the recruitment is in place to support him outside Japan…

  5. Oh and if the Press kick up a stooshie about using private jets , well Ramsey was pictured getting out of one at Glasgow airport yesterday, they arent banned, until they are those who can will use them.

I think Uroghide(sp) is gone.Loan deal with a set buy clause same as Hendry.

Shaw is at Motherwell on loan .

  7. To be totally honest I can NOT ever remember being highly/overly impressed by Aaron Ramsey when Ive watched him play for Arsenal and/or Wales.

I agree that I did NOT watch him every week playing for Arsenal, usually just Highlights on the BBC on a Sunday morning, and the odd time Arsenal were playing a ” Live” match.

I tend to ” liken” him to a certain Jack Grealish in being a very over rated player ( Grealish cost Man City £100 MILLION apparently ?)

Anytime I have watched Grealish play for Man City or England Ive just been impressed at all.

IMHO There was/is far too much HYPE about Grealish and maybe its the same with Ramsey ?

Ramsey MAY prove to do a reasonable job for the Huns…who knows, but I also suspect that the Hun hordes will be on his back ASAP, IF he FAILS to deliver CONSISTENT Excellent or very good performances week in and week out as I MUST assume that the Huns will be paying SOME of his Wages surely ?

At this moment in time I certainly do NOT feel any fear about Ramsey, and maybe the Huns are about to witness another ” Joey Barton” signing scenario ?

Lets NOT forget the HYPE that surrounded Mr Barton.

” Anytime I have watched Grealish play for Man City or England Ive just NOT been impressed at all.”

    Sorry.

  9. hope it’s a GIV-X, I worked on the development of them engines. On a shoestring and a load of trainees as well

  10. CalMac back in training will almost certainly see him start. Maeda I wouldn’t rule out from starting but certainly good for last thirty mins.

  11. Funny how on here that the TORY UNIONISTS have ALL went very silent on the ONGOING LIES from Bonkers/Clown/CHUMP…… Boris Johnson

Was he Twinned with Trump at birth ?

I have never thought that I would literally CHEER ON Thersea May at anything she had to say…BUT I cheered Her on yesterday in the Commons when she took Johnson to task over the Rule Breaking…she Totally NAILED The Dopey Bastard ………. and Keir Starmner didnt do too badly either with his comments on Boris the CHUMP LIABILTY.

It was a joy to watch Boris Johnson SQUIRMING yet again…..and having NO Answers.

Mr Putin will also be laughing like Feck when Boris attempts to throw his weight about and DICTATE to Russia, although sadly Boris Johnson will be trying to throw The UK weight about…and this can only end badly. Many Nations will be laughing at The UK Voters who Voted for Boris the CHUMP.

Hes a dead man walking IMHO.

GIV-X , they look the business, Maeda should be very comfy and well-rested on one them. With an 850km/h cruising speed, he should be back in time for a full Scottish Breakfast!

  14. In the Commons yesterday which I watched LIVE on Air for over Two Hours, it was also interesting to watch the NOT so Priti Patel looking VERY Embarrassed, and VERY Sheepish with Johnson as he continued to REFUSE to answer the most simple basic questions from BOTH Sides of the House.

PATEL was continually Rubbing her Forehead, as her head was getting lower and lower, in attempts to almost HIDE Her FACE.

Boris’ hero is Churchill. Churchill tried to show Stalin what was what and Stalin took half of Europe!!

he needs Mauritius to invade the Chagos Islands and we can send a task force

  18. Thanks TimHorton….

I think both him and Shaw are good young players but just not in the strict Ange template. I fear Scales isn’t either. I think in the summer he moves again from pragmatic to signings he’s in control of that fit the team ethos (i.e. we never stop !!!!)

I still expect one or some of Soro, Ajeti, Barkas and Bolingoli to leave soon as the clubs interesting them have longer windows than 31.1.

I don’t know how may Tories post on here. No doubt there will be some, but I don’t recall many championing the Tory party.

  21. The Ramsay signing has the whiff of Nico Kranjcar about it. The football brain knows what to do, but the body can no longer comply with the brain. But it’s only Scottish fitba so no requirement for bring the long lost A game. Can be down the road in Wales in about four hours, that’s the main thing.

  22. Frank Drebin " Nothing to see here ! " on

Ramsey won’t feature for der hun tomorrow night according to teeny weeny Gio von Bratwurst.

Maybe see him on Kitchen Nightmares instead.

    What? Oh not THAT Ramsey!

    Inane comment.

I’m not a fan of further immiseration of the worst off, which is what Scotland leaving the UK would involve.

For what? A flag. Not for me.

Don’t worry I know what you want for us, absolutely nothing.

    Rocking all over the world.

Lets have a dysfunctional tory government with a dreadful leader and cabinet for ever, change is scary don’t you know!

  27. TIMMY7_NOTED on 1ST FEBRUARY 2022 3:19 PM

Sorry to piss on your chips.

    But.

There isn’t going to be Scottish independence.

Even with everything that has gone on the Scottish people don’t support independence.

So there isn’t going to be a referendum.

Because Sturgeon doesn’t want a referendum.

Because she knows what the outcome would be.

There’s every chance that Labour will win the next election.

The SNP don’t want a Labour government.

They prefer to have a Tory government.

So you’re supporting a party that doesn’t want change.
