I stay away from YouTube videos of new Celtic signings or prospective signings, they are about as reliable as a TK Maxx original price ticket, it is always more informative to wait and see how the player settles in green and white hoops.
But the World Cup was on. And Celtic target Haissem Hassan played for Egypt against Argentina, so I watched. He was outstanding. So much so, that I suspected Ally McCoist’s eulogising about him was a tactic to entice English clubs to compete with Celtic for his signature. I felt sure the exposure would take him out of our reach. My interest in the player receded.
He spent last season at Real Oviedo finishing bottom of La Liga. The club scored 26 goals in 36 league games, even the second worst side in the league scored 50% more. You may remember our conversations about Patrick Roberts? Patrick needs to be in a side who have lots of possession. Teams who defend 90% of the season invariably employ agricultural wingers, to bolster their defensive cover. The creative types have no outlet for their fruits.
Perhaps as a consequence, Haissem had an unproductive term, curtailing competition for Celtic this summer. Reports that he is a medical away from signing for Celtic are genuinely exciting.

Another critically important summit on why we are so s***
What can clubs in Scotland do when faced with EPL clubs the richest in the world taking the best 16yr olds in Scotland
The Scottish Football Association is to hold a “critically important” summit around the future of the national game.
An email has been sent to all Scottish Professional Football League clubs to attend the forum, which will take place in St Andrews on 4 September.
The email, which has been seen by BBC Scotland, says the SFA will “discuss opportunities” around homegrown talent and hear from clubs who have “optimised their elite talent development model”.
The memo also states the objective is to focus on the “current reality” facing Scottish football.
Part of the conversation will be around improving the prospects for homegrown Scottish talent and increasing revenue streams for clubs.
This comes after Scotland’s national team failed to make it out of their group at the men’s World Cup, their first finals since 1998.
The summit will be hosted by SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mulholland.
who would win between nancys managerial skills and nicholsons negotiation skills

Reality is that there is a balance between CL qualification, transfers out and transfers in.
A starting 11 of Sinisalo, Johnson, CCV, Trusty/Scales, Tierney, Calmac, Nygren, Engels, Yang, Hogh, Duran is about as good as we are going to be.
Unfortunate that we drew LASK perhaps – but further incomings and outgoings will be dependent on the LASK result – and I don’t see any problem with that.
I am sure that more will leave and others will come in – Europa League or Champs League will determine who.
A starting 11 of Sinisalo, Johnson, CCV, Trusty/Scales, Tierney, Calmac, Nygren, Engels, Yang, Hogh, Duran
Take out engels and Johnson
And we need a sub for Tierney after 70 mins
Out of that
Before subs we need atleast 3 players (add another for a keeper)
We are bringing on mccowan and some kids as subs??
We are really struggling till we bring in replacements

I would not expect anything less from the likes of Turkeybhoy or his fellow travellers on here. Abuse is their first port of call, beit fellow CQNrs, our players, the Board….you name Celtic professionals they will abuse them.
Donovan showed up well against AC Milan and got quite a bit of game time last season, not all of which was positive but some of which was. I think he will make it as a RHS player, hopefully this season, got a lot going for him, mobile can get forward in support, will defend better alongside CCV, and believe it or not he knows that throwing the ball down the line can cause problems for opponents. Without game time you do not develop, JF, CalMac & KT are still key players, Tony Ralston a reliable workhorse at pretty much any level. Thought Anderson would make the squad, think he’s in Austria at some level. Lost Kelly & Vata last season, their choice, but Murray, Hatton & McCardle getting some encouragement from Martin & Co. Course I’ll always welcome players who could improve the team/squad, but more often than we’ve signed stocking fillers, who sooner or later have to be moved on, as shown recently. High hopes for a couple of incoming new Bhoys, but as Martin keeps trying to tell the neganons……there is two sides to every story, Scott Brown’s version of how he ended up at Celtic is a perfect example of that.
Saw this and thought it might bring a smile to you all:
Let’s compare League Championships.
60s: Celtic win 4-3
70s: Celtic win 7-3
80s: Celtic win 4-2
90s: Rangers win 9-1
00s: Celtic win 6-4*
10s: Celtic win 8-2*
20s: Celtic winning 5-1

Boro – Wrexham on ITV k/o 8.pm
Home side looked half decent at Celtic Park recently, look to have a strong squad
As did AC Milan who I predict will win Serie A this season
I would think there is a good chance that Engels and Johnson will be transferred after the LASK tie.
There is no issue with being cup tied for Europe if West Ham, Fulham and Everton are potential suitors. I would also assume they are on a nice wee ‘Golden Goodbye’ bonus if Celtic qualify for the CL proper before they leave.
Will Ferry pay the couple of million play when you are resting and subbing KT a no brianer.
Such a shame Shortie couldn’t bring the nation good news that Jota is back training with the squad.
Indeed, if you watch Shaun Maloney’s presser you could see he is genuinely excited:

Thankfully it’s only the SMSM who chose to focus entirely on the negatives when it comes to Celtic:

Couple of players who made big comebacks to play for Celtic for inspiration to make a comeback we all hope to see hopefully by the new year if not before
Craig Gordon’s most famous career comeback occurred when he signed for Celtic FC in July 2014, returning from a two-year absence caused by severe knee injuries that nearly forced him to retire at age 31.

Bashi-Bazouks @ 11:12 am,
“I’m afraid on this occasion, and I’m not offering them a general amnesty, just on this one – John McGinn said Celtic would have matched the Villa offer but HE chose Villa. On this occasion , as 67ECW says _ hindsight should have Rodgers guaranteeing him a start. That would have been a Rodgers decision, not a board one.
We’ve got plenty of other examples that are relevant and should go with those, not ones that they they can actually say wasn’t them.
So it was Brendan Rodgers fault:)))))
Who would have guessed:)))))
Of course we’ve done the John McGinn thing to death – yet I can give you quotes from and links to several BBC repirts telling the sad tale of Johnny McGinn…
It starts from June with our manager saying he wanted the player – it goes on to Lenny (Hibs manager at the time) saying they expected to lose him – “resting” him in Hibs European game…
Could you tell me why, if highly regarded experts in their field like Lee Congerton and Brendan Rodgers wanted the player in June…
They were overruled by a CEO, who we’ve established knew little about footballers and signed Mulumbu instead of John McGinn?
This CEO was the king of the nickel and dime lo-ball we still use today, and has cost us a fortune.
Example, we had an option on Craig Gordon that we never took up – instead we let the option on his contract lapse then lo-balled him with a different contract – sound familiar?
Craig, was insulted, walked away and joined Hearts.
We thought we would sign Fraser Forster, we couldn’t… he got a more lucrative offer…
We went to the market and paid over the odds for Barkas – he was crap and we lost our money on him…
We lost out on UCL again and the ten in a row as a direct result of lo-balling.
Did that sound like a great strategy, well, it’s been repeated over and over…
How much did that CEO lose the club by not qualifying for the UCL in the last dozen years?
Yet consider this…
When he was made CEO in 2004 he was on his best ever salary…
A couple of years later he was in the running to take over at Arsenal but stayed at Celtic…
(Reality, he was shortlisted for a lower executive role and was never offered the job).
However, it didn’t stop him from doubling his wages on the back of it…
He then went on to negotiate a nice bonus and even more salary…. more than our current CEO is on…
He then negotiated an even bigger bumper bonus… culminating on him getting 3.5 mn + expenses + pension + sundries in one year before he left as CEO.
He came back as Chairman on Ian Bankiers relatively speaking modest salary, he negotiated triple that salary for himself…
So obviously not a complete fan of lo-balling when it comes to his personal renumeration.
The lo-balling is a flawed strategy that is not fit for purpose and rather than “saving” us a few bob, has cost us a serious nine figure sum…
All the while the nickel and diming is good for the goose, not so for the greedy minted gander…
Hail Hail
Jobo Baldie was the email in your top 3 players
Am sure the bold Scalesy was 2nd

Seeing Jota with the first team at training was amazing
Although in Maloney’s press conference he mentioned a lot of it was non contact and he has a good few weeks to get back to anywhere near fitness (and contact drills are a huge part of that)
I watched “David Turnbull: the comeback story” (amazing piece of fim making)
Really felt for him, and was hugely impressed when he managed to come back and play for the Hoops
He seems to be doing well at Cardiff City??
Aye, we’ve done John McGinn to death, but……..
In the summer of 2018, the transfer saga surrounding John McGinn dominated Scottish football. For Celtic, missing out on the Hibernian midfielder—a lifelong supporter whose grandfather Jack McGinn served as Celtic chairman—was a painful chapter. Yet, despite narrative framing that often focuses purely on financial hesitation, a closer examination reveals that Celtic pursued McGinn relentlessly within the bounds of responsible club governance.
1. Why Celtic Did Everything They Reasonably Could
Celtic did not ignore the opportunity to sign McGinn; in fact, the club was deeply committed to bringing him to Parkhead. Manager Brendan Rodgers viewed the young Scot as a key project player who could eventually succeed iconic captain Scott Brown.
To secure his services, Celtic lodged three separate formal bids to Hibernian, steadily raising their offer past £2 million. From a strict business perspective, offering that sum for a player entering the final year of his contract was a fair and structured attempt to negotiate responsibly. Celtic’s board operated under financial prudence designed to safeguard the institution’s long-term health, attempting to find a fair middle ground with Hibs.
Furthermore, Brendan Rodgers held extensive personal talks with McGinn, directly laying out a vision for his tactical growth and place in the squad. Celtic stayed involved at the negotiation table right up to the final hours before he departed for England.
2. Why the Pursuit Ultimately Unraveled
Despite Celtic’s persistent efforts, external forces and market dynamics tilted the scales toward Villa Park:
The English Championship Financial War Chest: Aston Villa, newly backed by billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, entered the race late and was willing to pay a premium price of around £2.75 million up front, satisfying Hibs’ valuation immediately.
Hibernian’s Selling Preference: Hibs had a natural incentive to avoid strengthening a domestic rival if an English alternative existed. Selling to Aston Villa also offered a higher likelihood of a lucrative future sell-on fee.
While Celtic pushed their offer as high as reasonable business sense permitted for a player months away from potential pre-contract status, Villa’s financial firepower left little room for negotiation.
3. Why McGinn Ultimately Chose Aston Villa.
From McGinn’s perspective, the decision was a difficult conflict between emotional desire and career trajectory. His heart was set on Glasgow, but Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce offered him something Celtic simply couldn’t promise: guaranteed starting minutes.
At the time, Celtic possessed a stacked, treble-winning midfield boasting Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham, Callum McGregor, and Tom Rogic. Rodgers offered McGinn a crucial rotation role with a path to full-time integration, but Bruce promised an immediate, fixed place in Villa’s starting XI.
Reflecting on the decision, John McGinn later recalled: “There was always going to be tinges of regret wherever I ended up… It was important to weigh up everything and not just go with my heart because I had basically made up my mind I wanted to join Celtic.
“I remember speaking to Brendan Rodgers and he said the important thing I would take from it was I would play games, but Steve Bruce said I would play every game. I was used to playing week in week out at Hibs and it was so important to me that that carried on.”
McGinn also made clear that despite the intense public debate surrounding his move, there was no ill will toward Celtic’s hierarchy.
