Have no part of Ibrox farce

305

A constituency within Newco had enough of Celtic fans turning Ibrox into a party venue.  They decided an arrangement, that has been in place when Celtic visit Ibrox for longer than the host club has been in existence, had to stop, and convinced Newco to do their bidding.  Celtic were offered 700 tickets, an arrangement they reciprocated.

This is a farce, it is inherently unsafe, it incurs disproportionate police costs and Celtic should have no part of it.  Tell them the normal allocation of 7,500 tickets for visiting fans should be issued, or there should be no visiting fans whatsoever.

Celtic have an open invitiation to accomodate 7,500 fans or to reciprocate at a lower number.  In effect, this is a passive stance, ceeding the decision to one of Newco’s pressure groups.  It is time to take control, either there should be no visiting fans or a safe and appropriate number.  We cannot allow Scottish football to be ragdoll-ed by an angry fringe any longer.  I would be happy if we never saw them inside Celtic Park again.

Good questions tonight on ‘the stateen’ ni 6, and the roi 32 tonight

It is a culturally significant time and in irish history.

Just fresh out of a decade of anniversaries, from 2012- signing of the covenant, home rule Bill right to this years anniversaries in the civil war,a decade of centenaries affecting both sides of the community, world war one,the Rising, democracy ignored, civil unrest, civil war, civil split, not peace but a step to it.

The population sway is momentous.basically the stateen was founded as a Protestant state for a Protestant people, now its confronted by being governed by those excluded by its law.

Throw in Brexit and its impact and suddenly the effect on electors of voting, has real long term meaning,in both the 26 and the 6.and to the 26 I get the impression they were comfy wi unity chat shelved and feel it thrust on them,

What a fantastic game that was tonight watched it in Molly Malones and my nephew and I were the only ones who cheered when Real scored.Went to watch City v Southampton back in 2014 the stadium was like a morgue and City were going for the league title which they eventually won …all you could here in the stadium were the Southampton fans…webmnt to watch Everton against Arsenal at Goodison the next day and the atmosphere was superb.Noticed that tickets were available on itison for City’s home games against Sporting and Atletico can you imagine Celtic or to be fair Sevco doing that for a last 16 and a quarter final of the Champions league 🤔

  10. With all the talk about CCV and Jota staying or not staying, it’s a reminder that we would need to spend a reported 12 million to stand still. If we have a player budget of 20 million, there is not a lot left over to buy 3-4 essential quality players for other positions.

And we do not have any players who are going to bring us in 10 million. Just duds like Barkas, Bolingoli and Ajeti that nobody wants.

    Big challenge for Mr Lawell.

You claim they followed them for 7 years — total dross.

Just where do you get this nonsense from?

Loving all the anti-capitalist stuff — strange coming from a City bean counter.

Or at least someone who claims to be a city bean counter.

    Aye right.

  13. RM — hope they get gubbed in the final.

Establishment club — national and EUFA levels — seemingly loved / used by Franco.

Strange late season blooms of form / stamina when chasing the EC — even when second / third rate in the league. Financially doped throughout the ages / sweetheart deals to save them from various public bodies.

At least they show how things would pan out with TFOD2.1 in any future NatLand.

Plus their stadium upgrade is crap — cut and paste job with a trendy new skin.

Here’s hoping L/pool turn up — surely they can remember how they cheated them in the last final.

  14. Hoping AP gets all his ducks in a row regarding all the players coming in.

Last year we were a £10mill selling team.

This year we need to be a £20mill buying team.

Down to the fact that we have little left to sell.

We need at least 3 starters — CB / LB / MF who can tackle plus the big unit RW from B/G to help out LA.

Then we need better back ups — at least a GK / RB / CB / Playmaker / 3rd string CF.

Some of these should come from the B team but I am not sure they are ready yet.

Plus move quite a few people on and send some out on loan.

OU seems to be enjoying his time in Belgium — the highlights video is interesting.

LS seemed to be making some progress in Lanarkshire.

Plus make use of loans to improve the squad.

CCV and JNPF have been huge plusses this season.

Need to try and repeat it to make us CL ready.

    Regarding other pressing issues:

    CJ / JMcC / JF / IS / AA / VB — miracles required.

    DT / TR / RH / MO’R — more energy / stamina required.

Need to recruit for the B team and well as the first team squad.

If we recruit well and work on their public profile they could become very useful.

Send them off on publicity tours / competitions to spread the word.

Raise their standards and start getting them prepared for the jump to the first team.

The current lot need better coaching and more leadership.

Good in parts but the MF was poor in far too many games.

Buy players with a view to giving them 2 years in the B team and then they move up.

The world is full of ambitious 18 year olds — we just need to have a good look.

I would suggest the US and offer sponsorship to go to uni.

Finally — hopefully the youth team exodus starts to slow down.

It is not good for morale to have a succession of talent leave the club at 16 / 17 / 18.

What does that tell the football world — that we have a dysfunctional academy?

  15. Awards season currently underway.

    Compare and contrast …

Player / SPFA wards vs Football writer awards.

Bit of a pattern emerging to me.

Less CFC players get awards from the press than they do from their peers.

The unseen hand of Ludge Media / Print and Broadcast would be my bet.

The same over all the ages — we are not maturing as a country / society.

I think we are getting worse — the curse of Identity politics looms large.

  16. quadrophenian on

I don’t think we’ll get anywhere near a 20mill spend… Nor do we really need to.

Much as we’re loathed to admit it, we all know of a team that’s reached the latter stages of a Euro cup having spent an annual average of 8million euros over the last three years. Mostly on journeymen and sicknotes.

But they’ve been unified in a pretty cohesive way – which is grudgingly true.

We have a pretty healthy squad now compared to what Ange inherited.

Yes we prob need another Centre Half and Left Back.

But this boss promises to shop in the footballing equivalent of Primark.

No shame in picking up a canny bargain where others are not properly looking.

We’ll spend 12mill tops, and ship out 5/6 unwanteds for a combined half of that.

    In Ange we trust.

  17. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

I like loan with option to buy deals.

They make sense on a number of levels

But there are a couple of downsides.

As rightly pointed out by an earlier poster, there is that “standing still” feeling we get from having guys in the squad already for a full season.

And … we don’t own the economic value arising from that player’s performance in a Celtic jersey.

I hope we can sign both CCV and Jota for c.£6m each

If we don’t I suspect (but have no evidence) that

CCV will be sold to an English club for a minimum of £9m

Jota will go out on loan elsewhere and, over a period of years will fade from our memories like Paddy Roberts.

    Tough business this professional football

    “CJ\ JMc C\ If/IS/ AA\ VB,miracles required.

    DT\ TR \RH \ MOR, more strength,stamina required.

We need. CB /LB / MF, We need the big unit RW from,BG,to help out LA

    Aw fek it,back to bed,bemused.

  19. Just who made the fabled 20 million to spend nonsense.?Yep,the Media.Certainly was no one from Celtic. Why are fans on here getting their heads fekd up worrying about it.

  20. Quad @ 11.03

We already have to spend more than £12mill to convert the CCV and JNPF loans into permanent signings and then we have to sort out the DM situation which would appear to be a play now pay later deal.

Consequently we have to spend more than £12mill to stand still.

JNPF @ £6.5mill = Looks a good one to me.

CCV @ £6mill = I would look around before I would sign it off.

However he has been the foundation of this season’s improvement so maybe I am being a bit picky.

We need to convert our expensive collection of stiffs into hard cash — CJ / VB / IS / AA plus others.

That would allow us to look at better quality players for the positions we need to fill — LB / CB / MF who can tackle plus take a look at the RW currently at B/G.

We have been a selling club this season to the value of £10mill.

We need to be a buying club to the value of £20mill this season.

More than is probably sustainable but we have had a few windfalls and PL isn’t stealing a bonus.

We need to prep ourselves for CL credibility.

Also we need a big spend on the B Team.

The first question would be who is coming up to the first team squad.

The next question would be who do we get to fill the gaps then improve the squad.

For one, my head’s not worrying, just idly cogitating and cud-chewing for lightly distracting entertainment.

    MADMITCH on 5TH MAY 2022 11:41 AM

Not saying it wouldn’t be nice to spend +20mill, but given the Euro Slot (and its 35mill payout) is in the bag, and Ange has already spent – what? – 16mill quid on around 7 likely lads, I think his coaching role in shaping those new resources has to come sharply into focus.

I think we’ll get one or the other of Jota and Cameron; the latter IMO is the most useful but we all see the game differently. From the seconds, we hear great things about Bosun and Toby – the rest still look like waifs.

Dis/amazing how far THEM have got with good systems coaching, a motley crue of castoffs, crocks and freebies and some pals in black at home.
