Hayes, the opposite of a project, but still gave value

151

Jonny Hayes was the opposite of a ‘project’ when he signed as a 29-year-old for £1.3m from Aberdeen three years ago.  We paid a premium and knew we would never turn a profit on the player, but even as a squad player, he was value for money.

For the rest of his life he will answer questions about his length-of-the-pitch run and goal at Ibrox early this season.  For all the medals he collected in his three years at Celtic, that goal is a special memory.

At 32 he is young and good enough to perform at a level above most of our Premiership rivals, he will have no problem getting fixed up.

Best of luck, Jonny.

  1. My reading of Jozo and Johnny going is that we’re freeing up the wage bill for a couple of new additions.

I’m afraid that the Copenhagen mistake was one too many for Jozo. Lennon has set his sights on defensive upgrades this summer.

It’s much better to move players on before you go sign others were possible. Kouassi, miller, hayes and Jozo soon to be followed by others. Then it will be the loan players.

Cant agree that we only need big FF , we need a proper left footed defender and have done for yonks , whoever plays there Boyata Ajer or Jozo has made mistakes and been criticised but the real blame lies with the club , ideally imo we should sign a left footed Julian and a left footed Hatem that would give options both domestically and in Europe , HH :)

  5. RON67

Why do you say that about Hickey.

I thought he was outstanding in SCF last season, aged 16

  6. IMO

Left footed central defenders are limited in how they distribute the ball if you want flexibilty playing out from the back.

They are great at FK’s but pens too predictable.

Right footed players are more comfortable.

    Left back …primary leg ..left

    Right back..same for me.

    Anyways..all opinions.

  7. Jozo,, for all the games he played last season

He had the best ball distribution stats for a CH in the league

Will it go live at 8:15?

  9. Jonny Hayes goal at Ibrox?

Wouldn’t have happened without Ollie Ntcham.

  12. Forster

    Gordon or replacement

    Hickey

CB or RB to replace Jozo (RB would allow Hatem to play CB)

    Potential replacement for Ajer

    Elyounoussi or replacement

Paddy Roberts or somebody else to compete with Forrest

Only positions not needing an obvious signing is centre forward, number 10 and central midfield.

  13. How beautiful that Mass for Helen was conducted by Canon Tom. I am sure if we did not know it already, those words repeated a number of times during the Mass,”When you did it to the least of my brothers and sisters, you did it to me”, remind us clearly of the spirit of God that existed in Helen , She had no fear standing before the Lord and gaining entry to the other Paradise.

Chris,I hope you received much confort out of the celebration of the Mass. I will offer Mass tomorrow for the repose of her soul.

Beautiful mass and well done to everyone involved during a very difficult time made more complicated by the times we are in. Tributes at the end were heartbreaking and fantastic at the same time. R.I.P. Thoughts and prayers to Chris and kids.

What a wonderful tribute, edited to perfection.

Cannon Tom’s delivery at mass was perfection, too.

  19. What we need will depend on what we do in the market, if all our out of contract and loanlees players leave we will hopefully add a no.1 gk, cb and lm/w then look to replace others in the squad as required.

Either gradually promote O’connell, welsh, deas, Conner, Henderson, Dembele and Oxoflex into first team. One or two will show others will need a wee bit more time. Bleed into smaller cup games and league games at home once games are secure. If not then loan them out for game time.

Outstanding work by Norrie for chasing everyone down to get the videos to me. I’ve been in tears so many times working on putting this together over the past few days. I thought I was dry until I got a wee text from Chris after the Mass.

For those who didn’t tune in earlier it is available on YouTube. There will also be a permanent memorial to Helen and all those other souls who have passed over during this pandemic.
