Hearts 0-4 Celtic

479

Celtic blitzed into the lead after an incredible opening two minutes of tonight’s SPL encounter at Tynecastle and went on to record one of their most impressive performances in years.

Hearts were miles behind the visitors in every department but could have taken the lead after a minute when Andy Webster was left unattended at a corner kick and his downward header was met inside the six yard box by Stephen Elliot who knocked the ball goal-ward.  Joe Ledley intercepted on the line but the ball bounced net-side.  As Elliot prepared to celebrate the left hand of Fraser Forster appeared from nowhere to remove any possibility of the officials having sight of the ball.  Comments on Celtic Quick News suggest it looked a goal at the time and replays did little to contradict that view.

If the never-give-up spirit is alive inside Fraser Forster his captain was no less focussed tonight.  Georgios Samaras cleared the ball out of the box and Scott Brown turned defence into attack with a deft flick on the middle of the field.  Brown fed James Forrest who whipped in a cross that rebounded off Samaras, now inside the Hearts box to Scott Brown, who had jetted into the area.  The captain steadied before shooting low past MacDonald in the Hearts goal.

The game was only two minutes old but we already knew we were in for a night to remember.

Full of confidence Scott Brown tried a decent effort from 30 yards that went narrowly over but Celtic were not to be denied a second for long.  On 20 minutes Charlie Mulgrew’s deep corner was knocked back in by Forrest to Victor Wanyama, who turned and scooped the ball high into the net.

Celtic were motoring and looked streets ahead of their hosts as the reverential home support looked on.

By now Hearts looked more likely to score into their own goal.  On three occasions in the opening 30 minutes MacDonald had to scramble across his goal under pressure from his own team.  Zaliukas came closest to knocking the ball into his own net but his ‘clearance’ went narrowly wide.

Just after the 30 minute mark Scott Brown robbed Zaliukas as he took the ball out of defence and fed Samaras.  Georgios hit the bye-line and send in a deep cross which hung at the back post just long enough for Joe Ledley to stretch and nod home.  Celtic were 0-3 up and already guaranteed to move four points clear at the top of the table.

The fourth goal came on 60 minutes after one of the finest moves of the game saw Matthews feed Hooper and the striker tee-up Joe Ledley whose shot hit the post and was turned behind.  Mulgrew’s resultant corner was met by Victor Wanyama and could have bounced over the line but Gary Hooper was on hand to clear up any doubt to hit the roof of the net from a distance no farther than 6 inches.

Late on Kelvin Wilson cleared out of the Celtic box to Samaras who was 40 yards from his own goal.  The Greek international ran 50 yards before testing MacDonald from distance.

    How good was that?

    Brilliant absolutely brilliant.

How good is it to watch Neil Lennon’s Lions play such wonderful football?

Relax and enjoy, savour the moments. Hail Hail to you all.

Also, fourth goal. Scoring from a corner AGAIN. Finally we are punishing teams from this area!

  4. Fortunately I recorded the game tonight.

Just listening to our esteemed manager again in the Sky studio afterwards. And I’m hanging on every word.

    Isn’t he just wonderful?

  5. we have had 4 valid goals incorrectly disallowed this season

mark wilsons v hibs in july (he was 2 yards onside)

stokes v st mirren in august (never a foul)

rogne v st mirren january (onside by a yard)

hooper v falkirk january (onside by 2 yards)

we went on to win all 4 games so little song and dance made about them so when anyone tells you we have had all the decisions this year mention these.

Just on. Haven’t seen any previous posts. Looking forward to catching up tomorrow.

What an incredible performance from Celtic and the Celtic support tonight. Absolutely amazing. We have made two new signings – Georgios Samaras and Scott Brown. Both are turning into the players we always knew and hoped they could be. Excellent performances by both. What can you say about Joe Ledley? Victor’s Goal? Thomas Rogne? … and the rest. A great, great Celtic performance with wonderful vocal backing from the supporters.

Congratulations to Neil Lennon and I have Great Expectations (did you see what I did there) of this young team for the future – in both a domestic and European sense.

Let’s not bother about the other team. They know all about their troubles.

    Hail! Hail!

    Hail! Hail!

  7. I think Neil was every bit as impressive in the studio as his team were on the pitch tonight, even with tanner acting the usual goat with his line of questions.

The way he spoke about Big Georgios was very pleasing to hear because that big man has went through quite a lot as a Celtic player and he was being deadly serious about the bidding starting at £24M if anyone wants to get Hooper at this point (usual tanner crap trying to destablise Celtic).

Obviously everyone is raving about how Broonie has been for the last few games but IMO he has been playing at a consistently good level for the last 2 seasons. He must be an absolute nightmare to play against because of his incredible workrate/pressing, the best thing is, I think there is still plenty of room for improvement, tonight was a glimpse of what Broonie will turn into IMO. I think Broonie must have played the piggy in the middle role constantly as he was growing up. :) Rondo, rondo, rondo

    SFTB @ 23:10 – that’s almost Keevinsesque!

So we were wrong to criticise Broonie before and we were also shallow enough to think that he was brilliant after “doing the Broonie”?! FFS….we’ve only started to see him become the player we thought he could develop into.

Previously, his passing/awareness/positional sense/goals/assists were way below what other central midfielders were offering and Joe/Beram/Vic would have walked into the team ahead of him. Bearing in mind the transfer fee and the wages he’s pulling, most of the previous criticism was entirely valid….very little bang for buck.

He’s worth the money for the all-rounder that’s captaining Celtic now and long may that continue.

Was lucky enough to be at Tynecastle tonight (thanks occasional CQN’r and outstanding Celtic historian, Gordon, for the ticket).

Apart from the outstanding performance from the team, particularly Joe Ledley in my view, what a performance from the support.

    Tremendous.

Scott Brown is re inventing himself as the captain he should have been – I’ve had serious doubts about his marraige to Celtic, although never about the player himself but he is looking very good…in Kayal’s absence…the trick will be to find a way of blending these two…

  14. Three guesses where this came from:

” Celtic have ruined Scottish football

With their referee crusade last year.

Are the officials now too terrified to give a big decision against them for fear of themselves and their families being targeted by the filth?

Or is instruction coming from up above not to upset regan’s pals for fear of another fiasco?

Make no mistake about it they have got what they set out to achieve.”

  15. TTT,

Gave SFTB a +1 because he didnt say he slated Broonie prior to / … but other fans did. I’m also a Broonie fan and have been since watching him with hibs (seen a few games with hibee Brother in law) agree he’s now playing his best football but even I have detected more of an ‘acceptance’ from the Broonie haters since /

For me he’s always been a player.

  16. so anyways –

    Two current buns workmates.

Not close pals, but people I have worked with for 25 years, and guys I like.

Both Gourock buns, and I played football against them, as a bhoy, and I didnt hate them, so in my book they are ok, just the other side of the fence.

Never once said anything bigoted to me, so thats ok.

We have a wee daily quiz , in the work, and thats when we get together.

The older one , says “ok, going to ask, whats your take about the Rangers, whats happening, whats your opinion, whats your wee Port outlook on this”

i think he expected a rant.

Do you really really really want me to say ?

I came at it purely on business.

Murray an Ayr and Rugger Fan.

Holmes a bear , and Souness , really a jambo

    Ego trips

    Murray and McClelland.

    Murray Metals, Mimtec and BiJay.

Any business spending money it has to borrow,

never once mentioned tainted trophies or unfair advantages.

Went for the jugular, in my humble opinion, as soon as McCanns share issue was a success, that was the time for Murray to do the same.

Open up the club to the bears, spread the ownership.

Instead, they took Enic and Joe Lewis money, and spent it.

    Hugh Adam warning ignored.

EBT’s if a fair way to renumarate every bank and senior executive in every organisation would have been doing the same.

eh, they said, what you going on about ?

    ok, you both play golf.

The club champion has been winning for years, name carved in them daft shields you have in the clubs.

You find out he has been knowingly paying lesser dues, paying as a junior, not a senior.

Spends the difference on lessons with the club pro.

The club rules say you need to pay your membership dues every year.

Would you let him back in the club for next year ?

    ffs. was the reply.

You seem to be disagreeing with me by agreeing with my points.

I have stated that Scott was not performing at the level we expected him to during his first 3 years- you seem to agree

I stated he has been in a rich phase of form recently- I do not hear you disagreeing.

I stated that his relationship with the fans improved spectacularly after Feb 2011, not because of his form these past 4 weeks. Do you not agree?

I stated that fans, all fans, can be shallow- that’s you and me both- not just the fans who were critical of Scott Brown. Do you not agree?

  19. Broonie played a blinder tonight.

In the debate regards how much he has improved I will ask one question.

When did a right back ever have a bad game when Scott Brown played in the right side of midfield in front of him ?

I was a great admirer of Brown at Hibs but for a few (valid) reasons he has never really delivered on his promise until recently, in fact I always worried about him in Hun games that he would let the moment get to him.

Not now.Since the Diouf Broonie game he has grown and now looks in control.

I actually felt he should move on and really felt he was tailor made for an Arsenal type team – as he would be a great counter balance to ball players with his relentless energy.

I’m now glad he has stayed and I think it is testimony to his character that he re signed to prove a point that he could captain the Bhoys to SPL victory. Still not sure how we blend Kayal and Brown though…?
