Hearts and Newco with free midweeks a material advantage

352

Celtic earned lots of credit for their 3-0 first leg Champions League qualifier win over LASK, but Hibernian’s 0-0 draw away to Gent in the Conference’ playoff was in its own way equally impressive.  There remains a lot of work to do in the return leg next week, and it is Hibs after all, but at least two Scottish clubs have reasons to be hopeful for European group stage football this season.

Motherwell had by far the toughest opponent and went down to a predictable loss.  At least they were able to enjoy the opening goal against the side who reached the Europa League final last term.

Hearts found Austrian opposition trickier than Celtic.  Their 2-2 home draw and a performance which was clearly below Rapid’s standard suggests they may have another crack at Celtic this season without having to worry about too many midweek games.

What can we say about Newco?  I’m of the view that despite the early signs, the league season has not yet caught hold and we cannot discount either of the two clubs who pushed us all the way last time.  If Celtic are in Champions League duty until late January, while Newco and Hearts have clear midweeks, they have a material advantage over us.

We can enjoy the laughs when they continually fail, but I am not convinced it serves our purpose for them to have a free run at the domestic trophies.  It would also suit our purpose if Hibs, Hearts and Newco could all pick up more coefficient points.

Matt O’Riley has suitors including #Lyon with nine days of the window left. He won’t be in the #Brighton squad today. He is back fit after an illness this summer but missed some of Fabian Hurzeler’s pre-season preparations #bhafc http://SkySports.com/transfer-centre

I was and have not wavered from being a big fan of Matt O’Riley, IMO MO’N and Shaun could revitalise Matt O’Riley

If the deal is possible I hope Celtic get it done

  2. Chairboy Wow !

A new low for you today quoting Greene’s vile, contradictory and discredited wee ‘power rules’ booklet on here.

Let it go. You really will make yourself ill. Your personal crusade and issues are not healthy.

Celtic has won 14/15 leagues and is working as a club and despite your negative pronouncement’s as to its leadership for 20 years on here it actually has won 17 out of 21 leagues and enjoyed a robust level of financial success in that time.

For a club outside of the top 5 leagues and with its limitations (due to playing in our domestic backwater) its performance is staggering on and off the park.

This robust performance and backdrop, plus a bit of good fortune, has allowed it to survive and hopefully thrive through the adversity of COVID, constant negative MSM, the growing disparity of wealth distribution in global football (TV revenue etc) and of course a resurgent domestic rival revival.

The club made some smart moves. Rightsizing when the situation demanded it in 2004 and 2012 and then investing and upgrading in 2016 (binging in BR 1). It addressed things well post COVID and although Ange departure was premature and it made a panicked mistake with BR 2 but more trophies were added without a treble. Ange’s legacy squad continued on and having enough in the bank literally will ensure we can bounce back well now. Last year’s mess will give great memories ultimately but was not good.

We are moving forward positively and constructively on the field and will address the issues off the field over the coming months also.

I think you probably are a Celtic supporter but whatever personal issues you have, my guess it is with Peter L (whose dog might have shat on your front lawn or something worse), I suggest (in the best mindfulness tradition) you ‘let it go’.

He will always be a CEO and Chair who navigated Celtic through its most successful period of domestic dominance ever and more importantly from a humble background he brought up a decent family. I don’t know what purpose you spouting your negative stuff really serves. It doesn’t advance Celtic that is clear. Especially when you are quoting that pathetic piece of work by Greene on here.

We awaken to our cornflakes in our ‘sad wee lives’ Check the internet to see where our club stands in the window, and take pelters in our abject misery 🤣🤣

“ Sack the board idiots” or “ Sack the board sh@te “ – are they waiting in the wings all safely renewed up? with the rest of the Celtic support. Maybe the “ parasites ” and “ the pond life “ ( that’s some of the milder names ) will go away this season, to think Paul67 used to declare defiantly ‘this is a Celtic site?’

Who knew, that Celtic board would waken up this summer after last years catalogue of disfunction, not even the uber SKY supporters doon the pub wi their ahem mates, thought we’d ‘spend’ as much.

Fair play to the Celtic supporters that called them out, fair play to Brendan ( he had to go ) Rodgers demanding the quality MON seems to be getting, and last but not least fair play to the board that listened to reason, and commentary.

They’ve reviewed the recruitment system not only disposed of an HFO but dropped the position, and gone back to anonymity in recruiting, the same as other big clubs. Let’s pray they go the all the way and the names in the mix come to Parkhead.

Communications and fan representation was a problem long before the current board took shape, at least now there has been a communication channel established?

The club belongs to the supporters, we are paying for it receiving a bare minimum in return, just wouldn’t do.

Take yer pick, Soapy. At least some of us didn’t try to bring Celtic down and happy to throw the season so we could say “I told you so”. What you and yer chums tried to pull off is unforgivable.

You ran around for most of last season calling anyone who wasn’t up for a witch-hunt a Quisling.

Who turned out to be the Quisling, eh?

Retroactive bandwagoning / Late-adopter fawning: Refers specifically to jumping on a trend or idea late, then overcompensating with effusive praise to hide the fact that they were originally skeptical or opposed.

Revisionist flatterer: Captures the mix of rewriting history (gaslighting) with excessive, sycophantic praise to secure social alignment.

Backpedaling sycophant: Combines physical retreat from a previous stance with overly obsequious behavior toward the winning side.

Gaslighting: actively trying to make you doubt your memory by insisting they always supported the position, they are using gaslighting to cover their tracks.

Fair-weather supporter: Highlights the loyalty flip—they only praise an idea once it is safe, successful, or popular to do so.

Zeal of the convert: A classic phrase for someone who adopts a new view and immediately becomes its most intense, vocal advocate, often to prove their own allegiance.

    Borgo67 / B78 re rugby yesterday – cheers

For 60 minutes the All Blacks were battered everywhere …

Took everything South Africa threw at them (which was A LOT), stuck to their game, played as smart as they did tough.

    What a player !!

BTB – The result yesterday was surprising on the basis the All Blacks’ set piece (scrum and line out) was absolutely destroyed. However, their work rate and aggression at the breakdown was exceptional. From my uneducated eye, the Boks seemed very disjointed and ‘clunky’, probably as a result of chopping and changing their team in the test matches leading up to yesterday’s – too much experimentation and no cohesion?

The result sets things up nicely for next week. Unfortunately the second test clashes with our game against Falkirk. Hopefully I can avoid seeing the score and catch a replay.

I think he’s quite a thoughtful dude and realises he’s at the best club he could be at.

He’ll look back on his career and maybe regret he never made it to the big leagues.

But he’ll retire with £15m in pocket, a bag full of medals and he’ll be a Celtic legend.
