Hearts away troubles since August

358

You and I are preoccupied with winning tonight to ensure the gap at the top of the table does not grow beyond the four points it was before this round of games got underway.  Hearts have a different focus; a win would see them leapfrog Celtic into second place.

Early in the season Robbie Neilson was back at or near the top of the table, enjoying the kind of form Hearts showed before he left for MK Dons five years ago yesterday.  His stay in Milton Keynes was a disaster and Heats fared no better with a trio of underperforming managers appointed in his wake.

Form soon slipped, especially away from home, where they have picked up only three points since August, half the amount they collected that month.  Since then they have lost at Motherwell and Aberdeen, while collecting a point at Newco, Ross County and St Johnstone.

I’ve read through match reports for the last two months, it is a tale of attacking abandon at home and belligerent negativity away, marked by red cards on their previous two travels.  We can expect shed loads of belligerence tonight.

They did, of course, beat Celtic 2-1 on the opening game of the season, but that was then.  Celtic have changed beyond all recognition in the months since, notably as Tynecastle debutant, Kyogo, settled into life in Scotland.  Two weeks later Celtic produced one of the most scintillating displays of the season to knock Hearts out of the League Cup, although the 3-2 score suggests otherwise.

Celtic are closing in on full strength going into an intense December fixture list.  If we deliver on our own potential, we don’t need to worry about referees elsewhere.  3 points please, Celtic.

  1. I do see us struggling to win the league with that squad. We have a good front three and basically no back up after that. Abada has been off the boil for a while now and Ajeti, our Greek striker and MJ have contributed nothing.

£20-£30m in the bank and an impecunious Sevco are likely to win the league.

JINKY, hope to meet you again some day in Babbity’s. So nice to have a chance meeting with fellow Tims, especially those on here.

On tonight’s game, I watched it in a pub with a mate (who LUVS the EPL) who is rather sceptical about things ‘Timmish’. I told him before the game that Madhun would allow assaults on our players. He could not believe some of the tackles that did not result in bookings. I told him we would attack and attack and he was VERY impressed with our forward movement. I then told him that a Celtic player would be the first booked. He bought me a wee malt when that happened. “I thought you were just paranoid” he said “you are not paranoid enough”!

  7. Must have watched a different game.We were excellent in the first half just can’t put the ball in the net.

Second half Hearts on top for about twenty to twenty five minutes, helped be some very poor passing by us.

We hung in there and scrambled defensively but we knew that would happen we are wide open, in the end i was more than pleased with the win.

    Starfelt motm.

Never thought i would say to myself oh no whea AR went off.

MJ i don’t know maybe a loan move but right now we need all the bodies we have.

Thought young Monty had quite a good game.

  8. Not a night for snowflakes. No. But a helluva game of football. And with an atmosphere to match. Hearts no mugs, can play a bit too, but so can we and did and won. So well done Celtic, great win.

as for the news that the main stand at tannadice has to be shut on sunday

proper bad news for those who had tickets for.it

but good news in a way for the fans who have tickets for the fair play stand and behind the goal

especially because it only happened a few days before the game

    so heres the reasoning..

the tannadice main stand tickets go exclusively to all the fat cats/players/sponsors and general hangers oners

so they have now all been shafted for their tickets

had this happpened a week or 2 earlier then all the tickets that had been given to the rest our fans for the other 2 sections would have been voided, so they culd relocate the fat cats at our expense

but they didnt have the time to do that 3 days in advance

    sad isnt it?

  13. A Thursday night in December.

It was below zero in a lot of Scotland. North England. Ireland.

And yet there must have been over 50’000 real attendees at Celtic park

And busses parked in the Celtic end jock stein park from all these places

    We are magic. Magic.

  14. Just home from the game and had a quick swatch at the comments. Surprised to see so few in praise of Juranovic. I thought he had a cracking game.

    `night all.

  15. Overall the game was a bit of a squeaker, once our players starting dropping like flies.

Best game Starfelt has played in a Celtic shirt.

I suggested a while ago that Ralston and Juranovic should swap sides.

Although it’s a small sample size, Juranovic didn’t play better than Ralston on the right – props to Ralston for that, because Juranovic is a talent.

  16. Hurtin’ Hun Duncan said Kyogo’s goal was offside FOUR TIMES in his match report. I watched it back. Kyogo is behind Ralston when Ralston passes. It is not offside.

A Scottish VAR would doubtless chalk it off.

    fair point

Been trying to educate WeeBGFC on these very exact points – make his da (me!!!) look clever when it happens as I predicted.

The Monty booking after what had gone before – particularly the assault on wee Kyogo on the buy line in the first half – was almost laughable. Saw the one on Kyogo when I came in from the game – two feet off the ground, uncontrolled – not even a booking. Wee Hearts prick walked off with a smirk on his face – looked as if Madhun had told them the script before the game.

Best post ever? Put up “live updates” as a signal for JHB, MARTIN O SEVILLE, MAD MITCH & others go there and put out their usual nonsence. Meanwhile “Celtic supporters” stay on original post and discuss sensibly about the game. Well done.

Big Ange on officials decided the game ” well the refs got 3 points but he’s still bottom of the league”!!

  20. Did / does Neilson have any comment on

The Hearts player lunge – off the ground, straight leg tackle in the first half ?? (only a quiet word from ref – straight red in any other game)

Any comment on the Hearts no5 – 3 times in the first half alone, rugby tackles on Rogic ( ref kidded on to play advantage, hence ignoring – and this type of tackle continued with same player in 2nd half, arms round Rogic waste)

The Hearts players assault on Kyogo in the penalty box ( again ref had a quiet word,so he seen it,but no action)

  21. Tom McLaughlin on

Very disappointed with the sectarian chanting last night from the GB and the corner of the Jock Stein stand upper.

Only a few days ago some were condemning the board for not speaking out against sectarian chanting from the Aberdeen supporters. Now we know why they say nothing.

  22. Attractive to watch, fast flowing, skilful football BUT BUT BUT total domination resulted in a one nil victory ( and that a goal which most of us are surprised was allowed to stand).

There’s something still missing from the mix, and that’s an out and out striker. Suggestions on a postcard to the director of football/ head of recruitment/chief scout/whoever makes these calls.

And corners in particular seem to have reverted to being a bit of a comfort zone for opponents. Mind you that wasn’t helped by CC-V’s absence, which was hopefully a one off.

Also, the team, as a team, have to be more assertive with the referee regarding the deliberate, persistent and systematic fouling that the ball players are subjected to game after game. The injury list could determine the outcome of the league.

  23. TOM MCLAUGHLIN @ 8:46 AM,

    Well highlighted Tom.

Really enjoyed the game last night, sure a bit harum scarum but we played some great football.

Looked like it was going to take something special to beat Craig Gordon and his defence and that’s exactly what we delivered – awesome by Kyoto and Ralston.

    Have A Grand Day Celts…

    Hail Hail

  24. Some of our play in the first half was exceptional — people running the inside channel and the ball getting played to them cut Hertz apart. Keeping the winger on the touchline stretches the opposition defence and the gaps are there to be exploited.

The issue then was what happened next — not enough desire to make the GK work / the focus was on getting a cross into the box. Are we a bit overcoached in these circumstances?

I think the issue is what do we do next when the opposition have worked out / responded to our initial attacking threat — we seem to go passive when the gaps close and just shuttle the ball from side to side.

Also the old guard seem to have lost their shooting boots and their nerve in AP’s all action / go-go world — CMcG can’t seem to get a shot passed the first defender never mind the GK plus JF is well off the pace to the point that last season’s injury stuff must still be on his mind.

Interested to see the team for Sunday — quite a few squad players seem to have been lost without trace so this might be the chance they need to get on the park.

Also the strange SPFL decision to cut the number of subs back to 3 is hurting us big time.

Three injuries in the one game is not normal — were we unlucky or poorly conditioned?

JPNF looked to be playing within himself from the off last night — mistimed his efforts to collect a couple of passes in the first half.

Huge game coming up on Sunday.

Hopefully we don’t play the half fit.

Are they the mob that got a few second prizes at the chair throwing contest with a TFOD2.1 pub’s Over 60’s darts team a couple of weeks ago?

Imagine running aboot the toon wearing matching Primark sweatshirts with your “team’s” name stitched on the front — somebody needs to have a word with their parents?

Biggest laugh / youth culture faux pas since the Abronhill Urban Guerrillas made their appearance based on a love for the comedy of Wolfie Smith aka “Foxy”.

  27. Looks like we’ll have CCV and Starfelt at the centre of defence, Josip and Adam the 2 full backs for Sunday.

    That’s good enough for me.

Midfield from a group containing Callum, DT, Nir, Tam and McCarthy.

Can see Jamesey moving left and Abada starting the right.

Really need someone like a Scales, Soro, Johnston, Ajeti and the like emerging before our core 14 or so keel over wioth more injuries. They must be piss poor in training.

The GB needs to rethink their songbook TBH. Constant reb songs is a bore and best kept for the pub; club or bus. Get the Brits out these days is a senseless song in particular. Don’t get me wrong I do partake of a reb song or two hundred but in the right appropriate place.

Pity because there’s loads of Celtic songs.

  29. The Devlin assault on Kyogo could easily have been a straight red. Not even a yellow given. Later in the game Devlin is down injured, Kyoto appears to offer some support to the Hearts player. Very sporting wee man and probably a Japanese cultural thing. But please don’t make a habit of it, release your inner Broony.
