The devastating news that Hamilton Accies were scammed out of £750k prompted Hearts to acknowledge their own victimisation on Friday evening: “Heart of Midlothian can confirm it was the subject of an internet fraud earlier this year. The matter is now part of an active police investigation and therefore no further comment will be made.”
What Hearts didn’t say is that the £80k they intended to pay to their supplier “earlier this year” remains outstanding. You can decide if that’s a result of arrogant bloody-mindedness or a financial tightness. I could believe either. The club should accept that whatever crime took place, they still need to pay their supplier.
This type of scam is far from rare, I know several victims and (literally) dozens who have been targeted in this way. Hearts initial reaction – telling no one about it, is the most common, as it averts reputational damage, but the wider interests are better served by making the scam public’ alerting other potential victims of the need for vigilance.
Hamilton Accies do great and expensive work developing young footballers. I hope the club have the wherewithal to continue.

Of course An Post’s brave decision to release the stamp on the 50th anniversary of Che’s execution will draw flak & abuse from the usual mix of right wing cranks, neanderthals, Trump red necks & a cocktail of conspiracy theorists??! For the rest of the world Che Guevara represents an ideal of freedom which his efforts created in Cuba, like the Vietnamese, they cleansed their country of American Coca Cola culture, created the finest Medical system in the Americas, the best literacy levels in Latin America and a free education system available to everyone fright through to University and on to Doctoral level! Ok it has its problems like every country, you might not like its politics or system of government but it’s theirs and for all 11 million of them to change?? The American embargo has created hardship for ordinary Cubans as the giant neighbour tried to starve them out but failed,
not dissimilar to post independence Ireland where our neighbours fully expected the new ‘free state’ to come crawling back to the Empire unable to survive economically or politically, but like Cuba we survived! Che Guevara is an icon to millions just as Bobby Sands is to a modern generation, An Post deserve praise for this unlike Galway City Council who bowed to pressure to support a proposal to errect a plaque to Che in Salthill recently, probably conscious of the lucrative American tourist market and I’m sure the local naysayers??! ‘One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter’, the epithet was never as relevant as in the spirit of Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara!!
